both are valid approaches to the same problem
So i'm working on a project that involves looking at people's opinions on public transportation, and something that keeps coming up is that a lot of people like the idea of public transportation but ridership is at the same time low, so I wanna figure out what stops people from riding.
If you could reblog this for bigger sample size that would be so so appreciated
If you're in favor of public transit, but don't currently use it, or only rarely use it, why not? (choose primary reason if multiple apply. uber/lyft don't count)
My town/city doesn't have any (even a bus system)
I have a disability that prevents me from it
I don't feel safe (concern of germs/getting sick)
I don't feel safe (concern of physical injury/harm)
the routes are inconsistent
Routes are too infrequent/wait time too long
There are frequent delays/it gets stuck in traffic
Navigating transit is confusing or difficult, or I don't know how to use it
I'd have many transfers (difficult, or would make riding take too long)
Route stops aren't near anywhere I'm trying to go
Other (answer in comments/reblogs)
I DO consistently ride public transportation
reblogging since there's about a day left on this thing
Also the only way i have to easily parse r puts is google maps as ndcivh a very noticeable hoe as accurate it is we irh t he buss and train system here.

Ideal work schedule:
I show up and am given a list of cognitively engaging but achievable tasks
I complete the list
I leave immedietly
Nappy.co
You know how long I've been looking for something like this!?
To any sketch artist out there too.
[Image ID: a black woman wearing a plaid shirt and red bandana around her head. Her braided hair is coming out of the top od her head and falling in front of her. Text says "Did you know there's a black-owned stock photo company nappy.co that provides stereotype-free images of black people" /end]
the other day i was trying to find reference images of black people for art things but all i was finding were black-and-white images of white people! love this!!
Also! They accept submissions. If you’re a photographer and want to contribute, the button is on the bottom left of the webpage.

every year we have to say it
Trade school is ok!
I will bang this drum until my arms fall off:
Community college is not only OK, it’s a very good idea. 90% of jobs aren’t going to care where you got your degree. For those remaining 10%, here’s a hack that can save you tens of thousands of dollars in tuition.
Go to community college, get an Associate’s Degree in General Ed. This will take you two years, and it is statistically likely that at the end of those two years you will have a better idea of what you want to actually do with your life than you did when you were fucking seventeen years old.
THEN Decide on your major. If you need a Prestigious School, you are much more likely to get in with an associate’s degree and a good GPA than you were with a diploma and a good GPA. Since you have an associate’s degree, those credits are locked. None of this “Okay, you can transfer to our college, but you’re going to have to retake your English Credits and maybe another humanities course” shit. You have a degree that says you completed that part of your education, and you can now concentrate on the remaining two years required for a four year degree in your major.
We are doing kids a major disservice when we act like college is the only life path that can lead to success. These days the market is oversaturated with hyper specific degrees that there aren’t enough jobs for, while not enough people are going into trades to keep those professions running smoothly.
You can go into a trade school or an apprenticeship instead of college, you won’t spend as much, and you will start making money sooner. And let me just add: people make good money in the trades.
Holy shit that's so cool
Finally “do you love the colour of the sky” got compressed for our convenience
This is now my favorite photo

people who tell queer southerners "just move away" ummm but i like it here. my friends are here and the cool antique stores are here and the amazing local food places are here and the creeks ive been playing in my whole life are here and the weird landmarks are here and its familiar and it may suck sometimes but its where i live!!!!!
Why? I’m from Australia so I don’t know anything about this stuff
Because there should be public transit and trains. It is a ridiculously short flight that is just polluting the world unnecessarily but a lot of people don’t have a better option. There’s so many major cities in that small area that they should have train lines between them all
okay so like, I live in Baltimore. Boston is 8 hours by car away. But! There’s a direct train that goes there so I should take it and-
the train is 8 hours. Okay no big deal at least I’m not driving I can relax and-
the train ticket will run me one way between 100-300 dollars depending on when I buy it from Amtrak.
However, I can get an 80 dollar plane ticket one way on southwest, so I do that instead.
anyway it is beyond frustrating to be in the most used part of the amtrak system and still have train tickets be so goddamn cost prohibitive.
thats not a policy failure, its seven policy failures duct taped together
