Hey! I love and appreciate all of your master list's and all the guide's you've written! They helped me sm!!
My question is as a beginer witch, with basically no knowledge whatsoever, what can I do on Beltane? What is Beltane? How should I prepare? Should I make spell or what ritual should I do?
Hii! thank you so much for the support! im so happy that my master list helped you!
i already made a post some years ago about the sabbats but i will answer gladly to all your questions:
Beltane is a Celtic fire festival celebrated on May 1st (or at sundown on April 30th). It sits directly opposite Samhain on the wheel of the year, which is kind of poetic — where Samhain is the thinning of the veil between the living and the dead, Beltane is the thinning of the veil between this world and the fae realm. it's loud, it's alive, it's bursting at the seams.
historically, Beltane marked the beginning of summer in the Celtic calendar. livestock were driven between two bonfires to bless and protect them. people danced, feasted, and celebrated fertility — of the land, of the body, of creative projects, of life itself.
the name likely comes from "Bel" (a deity associated with the sun and light) + "teine" (the Irish word for fire). bright fire. that's the vibe.
themes to hold in your heart this sabbat:
fertility & growth: not just physical, but creative, spiritual, emotional. what are you trying to bring into full bloom?
fire & purification: bonfires were protective and cleansing. fire transforms. what needs to be burned away to make room for what's coming?
the fae & liminal magic: the veil is thin. this is a potent time for intuitive work, leaving offerings, and paying attention to signs and symbols.
union & desire: Beltane has always been associated with love, sensuality, and the sacred union of masculine and feminine energies (interpreted broadly — this is about balance and coming together, not strictly gender).
joy: genuinely, unironically, just joy. celebration for its own sake. pleasure as a spiritual practice.
honestly, you can do anything as long as you invite new energy and welcome change. go for a walk in the park, organize an evening with friends, or just sit quietly with a candle — it all counts. the intention is what matters, not the grandeur of the gesture.
if you want some inspiration, but if you want some more ideas (this goes to "i have 5 minutes" to "all in":
light a candle: this is the bare minimum and it's enough. let it burn while you sit with your intentions and just... be present with what you're calling in.
make a flower crown or altar arrangement: seasonal flowers, green leaves, ribbons in green, white, red, or gold. put something beautiful somewhere you'll see it. that's the whole ritual right there.
leave an offering outside: a small dish of milk and honey, some bread, or flowers at the base of a tree or on your doorstep. you don't have to believe in the fae literally for this to feel meaningful. it's an act of reciprocity with nature, and that's enough.
do a fire ritual: if you can safely light a bonfire, or even just use a fireproof dish, write what you want to release on one piece of paper and burn it. write what you want to call in on another — keep it, or offer that to the fire too.
make a Beltane oil or charm: rose petals, lavender, a little honey, a pinch of salt. charge it in the sun and use it to anoint candles or yourself before any working.
spellwork: Beltane energy is loud and generous. it's a wonderful time for love and attraction work, abundance and prosperity, glamour and confidence, fertility in any form (yes, creative projects absolutely count), and protection of home and loved ones.
pull some tarot or oracle cards: ask what is ready to bloom in your life, and what the next half of the wheel holds for you. you might be surprised what comes up when the veil is this thin.
what i do to celebrate Beltane is:
cleansing my space and body — i put on some music i like while i do it, and make some small changes around my room to feel like a new space and invite change into my life.
gathering seasonal flowers, or herbs in general — hawthorn, marigold, roses, primrose are all traditional. if you can't find them, any bright spring flowers work. i usually like to buy some nuts and dried fruits from small markets beforehand and leave them on my altar. it's a way to share this day with my gods and goddesses.
i also like to journal on this particular day — i like to write down some new projects or some creative writing to work on myself. Beltane is deeply generative energy. what do you want to grow between now and Samhain? set that intention clearly before you start.
