Ronan Lynch is a constant in life that to Adam is unshakable. He knows Ronan better than he knows himself. He knows what is going to make Ronan laugh that laugh that seems to catch him off guard like he’s forgotten he can be happy. He knows when he’s feeling broken and hurt, when grief sneaks up on him before Ronan himself even notices.

Even when Ronan went MIA with Bryde there was something in Adam that knew it would work out in the end.

 At first he would sit in his dorm room not speaking, not thinking, not even studying, just waiting for Ronan to call. Call it fate. Call it love. Call it naivete. Call it whatever he knew Ronan wasn’t going to abandon him forever. He managed to get through the days by going through the motions, a class here, fake a smile there, a coffee with friends this evening, and studying that evening. Ronan will be alright and he will come home because otherwise Adam will be wrong about him too and he can’t face that.

When Ronan was in the coma Adam didn’t accept a possibility that he wouldn’t awaken. He didn’t entertain it. He lied to Declan because that was easier that breathing at that point, he was a paper doll being carried through life, but he didn’t let himself think the worst.

It was simply unfeasible to accept that Ronan wouldn’t wake up – someone so full of life and energy lying there on the ground was dizzying with how erroneous it looked.

Everything that happened with the Moderators, with Nathan, the end of the world and the start of the new one didn’t matter because when Adam’s soul mingled with Ronan’s he’d never felt happier.

He was known by Ronan and in turn he knew Ronan. They knew each other better than any other two people on earth. His Ronan.

They were friends before they were lovers and they will be something more after.

No, Ronan’s never felt wrong to Adam.

Until now.

Now, there’s something wrong with Ronan.
