It's always "why do women love M/M romance" and "it's actually selective homophobia why women read M/M romance instead of F/F romance" and "it's actually misogyny" and never, ever, does anyone even think, why are we always even asking why women read or not read queer romance and why are we always painting it as a negative thing that reflects badly on their personalities. That is the question I actually want answers to. Nobody ever questions why men read the things they do. The closest that we ever came to that was with that whole "performative male reader" thing from some time ago and, even then, every left leaning person I could see were pretty fucking quick to call that out as toxic masculinity, homophobia and misogyny, so it got dropped relatively quickly. But this bullshit? This big why oh why aren't more women reading F/F, and instead prefer to be "male centered" and continue to read M/M, nooooo, you all are just incapable of dropping that shit. We have to endlessly debate and ask and prode and question, because it's such a "mystery" that women want to read about those icky, icky men instead of the pure and perfect and so much better F/F romance, which would cleanse them from all their homophobia (because F/F readers can ever EVER be homophobic about anything ever, yes, yes), all their misogyny (because clearly women who are misogynistic are not a thing!) and improve everything for everyone everywhere, of course. So the only reason why women (and again, it's always women or "female readers") don't go and do that means that they don't care about improving shit for anyone and are actually the problem. Yes, yes, no doubt this is it. And we are going to keep making videos and articles and threds and whatever the fuck reaching this same conclusion, over and over and over again, because women CLEARLY haven't been questioned enough! Aren't judged enough! Don't have their interest and hobbies under enough scrutiny! And men? Oh, they are a lost cause so why bother? They don't read as much as women (and there is no point to even question why that is, clearly!), so they aren't worth adressing. If they even touch F/F romance it will only be to sexualized it (because sexualization is ALWAYS bad and never an honest artistic expression of anything) and be lesbophobic about it, so why even talk about that when we already know that men are just that gross and disgusting from the start? Men don't even touch M/M romance either because that is too gay and if they are gay, don't touch it anyway because it's all full of "female" writers whose actual genders nobody bother to google for and, truly, when you think about it, only women are responsible for this too. Why won't women stop writing M/M romance so only the gay men can write it. Because surely that is how it works, right? Why do they have to be so fetishistic about it when gay men, as we all know, are famously completely devoid of sexual desires and sexual drive.
Damn, women do really ruin everything, don't they? Those stupid silly women who don't even know why they read the things they do and that is why they keep needing an outsider, someone who has never even talked with those communities, what is up and call them out in all the bad things they are and should change immediately. To go read F/F instead, because obviously that would solve everything.
