And when the character does learn to love being a woman? Why, it’s just fascinating character development. It’s in service to the themes. I’m sure if you were in their shoes, you’d protest— certainly you would. Because if, deep down, you didn’t display that reflexive disdain for ‘girlyness’ that your peers and society taught you was normal, what would that say about you?
