Hi all, if you don’t already know, Cliff Weizman, CEO of Speechify, illegally scraped works off the Ao3 without authors consent and uploaded them to his for-profit site, WordStream.
Please sign this petition to hold him accountable for his actions and get these works removed.
Stop WordStream From Stealing Our Works
How to Request a DMCA Takedown re: Word-Stream.com
(I, WalkAwayTall, am merely a messenger; this info was copied directly from this post on r/AO3 and posted here with permission from its author, @fuegopi. Use it as you see fit.)
----------
The relevant statute, FYI is 17 U.S.C. § 512 (c)(3)(A), available at https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/17/512
OPTION 1: MAKE A REPORT TO CLOUDFLARE
https://abuse.cloudflare.com/
Step 1: Select “Copyright Infringement & DMCA Violations”
Step 2: Fill Out the Form
(some notes below)
Your Full Name: I understand many fanfic authors prefer anonymity. However, your report/complaint may be taken more seriously if you use both your name and your pseud. For example, I would write, [MY NAME] (“FuegoPI” on AO3).
Holder’s Full Name: Again, that is you, the author.
Contact Information Fields: The DMCA only requires that, you provide “Information reasonably sufficient to permit the service provider to contact the complaining party” — An email address should be sufficient.
Infringing URLS: List the URL of every work you have made that is available on the offending website.
Describe the Original Work: I would list the names of your stories, the word counts, and give AO3 links.
For example: A Fanfic Story (200k Words), originally posted and available at [LINK].
You MUST check the box that says 512(f) acknowledgment, “Good faith belief, Authority to act” and you MUST provide a digital signature or your report will not be accepted.
OPTION 2: MAKE A REPORT TO GODADDY
OPTION 1: Fill out the form at https://supportcenter.godaddy.com/AbuseReport (you may not wish to do this because of the information requested; if so, I recommend sending a letter).
Step 1: Select “Make a Claim”
Step 2: Select Claim Type, “Copyright Infringement”
Step 3: Are you the Copyright Owner or an authorized representative? Select “yes.”
Step 4: Please enter the domain name associated with the website you are complaining about – Fill in “https://word-stream.com/”
Step 5: https://supportcenter.godaddy.com/ipclaims/copyright/infringement If you want to fill this out.
OPTION 2: The form is probably not for everyone, because it requires address information that the DMCA does not strictly require. As a result, I made a template letter for y’all. I recommend attaching to an email.
I hated doing it, but in light of the current Speechify scandal and the likelihood of other avaricious AI "entrepreneurs" doing the same thing in the future—harvesting fanfiction off of AO3, butchering it with AI, and putting it behind a paywall—I've locked all my works indefinitely, which means only logged in AO3 users will be able to read and comment. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to guests, especially my non-American readers.
If you're able, please sign up for an AO3 account. It's extremely easy and well worth it. I have a few invites left over if you'd like one. DM me if you're interested.
Look, I'm not happy making this post, but I don't want this stuff to be forgotten because things like this put everyone in fandom at risk, including those foolish enough to try to profit off fanfiction.
Please check the post in reblogs (or search 'word stream') for more context. TL;DR: Kaladin's actor made a freemium AI text-to-speech app full of stolen fanfiction and independent original fiction. For what it's worth, the stolen content seems to have been taken down, but the app had been up for two months in which god knows how much money it made.

To continue the wordstream-stole-my-fanfiction saga:
So wordstream supposedly took down my fic (after I sent many reports and emails). But as you can see, it still shows up on their website if you google it. In short, wordstream didn’t actually remove my fic—they just hid it from view 😔 This is so discouraging.
Here’s a link to their website: https://word-stream.com
You probably won’t find fics there anymore—they seem to have all been hidden—but you may want to double check google search to see if your fics, or your favorite author’s fics, are still there.
“If you ask me, life is a New York subway at midnight on a Saturday. so many incomplete souls returning home trying to hold it together, holding hands or falling asleep making shoulders out of lone poles, their own reflections shining back at them. I close my eyes and miss the boy who used to hold oceans in his eyes, so that when he would weep, the entire universe collapsed inwards, making all the strangers halt just like that, hands shaking mid-air, lovers stuck mid-sentence, a note or two here n there stuck on their way to the sky. Can you imagine how many love letters never make it to the end of the ocean? Their ink running, their lines disappearing with the ripples? I close my eyes and count my breath for the boy who held oceans in his eyes, wondering how many of my words have drowned there. There are too many footsteps on cobbled stones tonight, and they rhyme with broken promises collecting on the ground like snow, and the man who paid a penny to the violinist on the platform, the man with his skin the color of charcoal that is, gets on the train only for a stranger to hurl abuses at him, reminding him that he’s but an alien, reminding him that the most he can ever be on a New York subway is an outsider. But he sits quietly, waiting for her to stop, for New York to pass by, and I fall asleep, making shoulders out of lone poles thinking, you could sum up the entire universe into a New York subway at midnight on a Saturday because where else do you see so many hopeless people coming home together?”
The WordStream fail continues. Looks like they've cleared everything not in the public domain off the site, so that's good. But I was skimming down the front page and then stopped abruptly, blinking.
Ah yes, that classic Western novel, Rideis O.Fok. Uh. of the a the Puiple Sag — to say nothing of O Piouneers! and The Law Law-Akers.
I see they've got the King Janes version of the Bible, too.
