Because I have a source of joy and contentment that is not dependent on the state of the world or even my own country.

I do not place my faith in people, and especially not in any government.

My faith belongs to God, the Creator of the universe, who became sin itself to die for us and pay our sin debt in full so that we may have eternal life, if only we confess to Him and repent (turn away from sin). He has defeated death, and when He adopts you as His child, He holds you tight and never lets go.

If such a God is for me, who can stand against me? No person or power on earth or in hell is greater than He.

I have the joy of knowing Him, and the peace of mind that comes with it. This world is temporary. The Kingdom of God, the inheritance of His children, is eternal. My heart is safe in Him, not in any man or woman or government.

So whether things look good or bad in my life, I consider what I have to be thankful for, not my worries. I remember what God has done, that transcends this lifetime and all before and after it. I remember that God is good and sovereign.

So if I have the free gift of eternal life, and the shield of a loving, just, and merciful God…
