So hereâs a fun bit of trivia for you people.
Iâve never actually looked this up before but apparently the name âUlyssesâ has several meanings, the most common ones being wrathful, hated one or wounded.
Additionally, Ulysses is the Roman/Latin variation of the Greek name Odysseus, who was the hero of Homerâs epic.
While the origins of the name are still speculated, Odysseus has come to mean âvictim of enmityâ which can be simplified to mean victim of hostility, antipathy or aggression. It can also mean âfull of wrathâ.
Odysseus is thought to originate from the Greek verb á˝Î´ĎĎĎοΟιΚ (odussomai) which roughly means âto be wroth againstâ or "to hate". Itâs also been traced back to the verbs to á˝Î´ĎĎοΟιΚ oduromai (oduromai) which means to âto lament, bewailâ,or even to the verb á˝ÎťÎťĎ ΟΚ (ollumi) which means âto perishâ or âto be lostâ.
Long story short, Ulysses is the Roman equivalent of Odysseus, and to sum it up, the mans name literally means wrath, anger, sorrow, hate and pain as a rough interpretation.
And that explains a lot.
What Iâm saying is that Ulysses was likely not his given name but the one he chose after the catastrophe at the Divide since we know how much heâs obsessed with symbolism, plus it also alludes to his role in Caesarâs legion since again Ulysses is a name of Latin origin and thatâs likely where he was exposed to it in the first place.
Anyways, I just thought this was a fun bit of trivia and it sent me down a rabbit hole of Greek and Roman mythos, so I thought Iâd share. The devs certainly put a lot of thought into this and I respect that.

Today I've read some lines from Hynes for our local annual reading of Ulysses. We were on episode 6, so I dressed my best for the Paddy Dignam's funeral (even though nobody saw that through Zoom).
Overall, a pretty eventful Bloomsday.
[For the last week Lydia has been disguising herself as a man to infiltrate the Omertas crime family, she with the help of Boone and Gannon, who are pretending to be interested buyers of some of the girls, have finally found proof that the dancers and prostitutes came from slave trades with the Legion and through other means and are planning to bomb the strip.]Â Â
Boone: Okay, we have have all the proof are we going to the embassy or the old man?
Arcade: Iâm not having this discussion until Lydia takes that stupid beard off!
[Boone grabs Lydiaâs fake beard and much to the redheadâs protest rips it off, pulling some of Lydiaâs facial hair and skin with it, leaving red marks where the glue was holding it on her face.]
Lydia:â *tears up. lip quivers* AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhh
[her pained scream echoes throughout the strip- Freeside everyones looking at the strip north gate scared and confused.]
*Ahhhhhhh*
[ cut to an aerial shot of Vegas.]Â
*Aaaahhhhhh*Â
[Ulysses at his camp site looking up at the sky bemused]
*Aahhhhhhhhhhhh*Â
[the fort: Caesar is watching a gladiatorial match he reaches for a goblet of wine, when Lydiaâs scream is heard through out the camp, causing him and everyone to stop what theyâre doing and look around trying to figure out what the hell is that?]
*Aahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh*Â
[Zion Canyon, Follows-Chalk,Joshua and Daniel are sitting around a campfire talking when a noise causes them to stop and look at the sky.]Â
Follows-Chalk:....Lidi?
[Daniel looks at Joshua concerned. cut back to Vault 21]
Boone: *holding the beard staring at the still screaming redhead stunned*
Lydia: aahhh...Fuck! Why would you rip it off like that?!
Arcade: whyâd you glue it to your face?!
Lydia: Why not?!
