come to think of it
odysseus is kinda one of the first characters where the people writing his myth must’ve had to rack their brains to be smarter than their own guy since his whole thing is his métis (his cunning, strategic intelligence)

ULYSSES I: BEFORE YOU READ
BEFORE YOU READ
Read Portrait and if you can Dubliners (a lot of the characters reappear in Ulysses).
Be aware that Ulysses is in chapters, but the vast majority of editions do not separate them. Best thing to do is to use one of the annotations I’ve linked to below to make sure you know where these chapters start/end. Having said that, you don’t even really need to know where the chapters start/end…
The longer the sitting the better. If you do sit down to read it, make sure you’ve got at least 40 minutes.
ULYSSES SERIES: PREAMBLE
Stumbled upon this list of resources for those who want a deep reading of Joyce's Ulysses, which I'd emailed to someone back in 2014. Initially, I thought I'd likely just copied and pasted these from course materials (at the time of sending, I was a third-year BA student of English), but after reading all the notes there are some dead giveaways which are somewhat cringe-worthy now.
However, I'm sure I'm failing to credit people who put me onto these gems - if any of you should find this, forgive me. For any others reading this, I hope you'll find it useful and that Ulysses impacts your life as much as it did mine.

Briton Rivière RA (14 August 1840 – 20 April 1920) was a British artist of Huguenot descent.
He exhibited a variety of paintings at the Royal Academy, but devoted much of his life to animal paintings.

I should not be surprised that there's so many bad, incredibly uncharitable, or wholly incorrect takes on ulysses and so much reducing of him to bullbear jokes, "this guy talks so much omg shut up" etc, but it still breaks my heart. he's probably the best and most interesting fallout character and this fandom doesn't deserve him!!

STORIES FROM MY CHILDHOOD -
By Bernard Bujold -
One of the first novels I read as a child was *The Iliad and the Odyssey*, a book given to me by my aunt, who was the housekeeper for the village priest. It was a beautiful edition, with a white hardcover and gold-colored bands, published by *The Reader’s Digest*, a magazine to which the good priest subscribed.
I reread *The Iliad and the Odyssey* a second time during my teenage years. I’ve always loved the romance of the book and its many adventures. In fact, two of the mascots on my social media accounts and my website have names inspired by this novel: Ulysses and Argos. Gus is inspired by the famous American dinosaur, the T. rex…
Memories of my childhood readings will resurface this weekend with the theatrical release of Christopher Nolan’s famous film starring Matt Damon, “The Odyssey.”
We’ll have to see if the film is as romantic as the book. Personally, I never go to movie theaters, preferring more private viewing experiences like Netflix, but I’ll have to make an exception if I want to see the work that captivated my childhood brought to life on screen…
Have a great weekend and enjoy the movie if you’re a romantic who’s passionate about the adventures of Ulysses!

Um dos melhores livros da minha vida. Simplesmente descomunal.
smth drew a couple of days ago...anyways, vulpes literally ruined ulysses' life, so i imagine that they rarely interacted, outside of campaigns or training. assuming that ulysses was also a child during 2247.
