Starting in the exciting world of part-time online tutoring for English as a Second Language. Fingers crossed this works out!
I've already learned just from the training courses that teaching is much harder than 'winging it with a powerpoint presentation.' Every teacher in my life already knew this. Every student in my life already knew this. No one but me is surprised pikachu.
Look for more astute observations from me in the coming year.

CELTA offer received for a London based language school… immediately sprang into a few hours of online browsing to find red flags via social media, google reviews, and compare the qualitative benchmarks to their top competitors.
Sleeping on it, but looks like this is the start of a groggy new skillset.
CELTA interview concluded, and I’ve been notified - not for the first time - that my language includes far too many redundancies for the beginning language learner. Lol.
I’ve attempted multiple times to develop concision in language, but teaching absolute beginners would prove to be an entirely new level of simplification.
Many mixed feelings, from the caution of persistent 13 hour workdays, functioning on only five hours of sleep, and a vague aura of hazing or limited boundaries. It’s not rocket science, and trainees aren’t reinventing the wheel - yet somehow it feels as if they expect an intuitive grasp of material.
There’s little to no mention of technological tools, cultural sensitivity training does not exist (though they claim to make accommodations for neurodivergent individuals), and the interviewer seemed exasperated on top of being 10 minutes late.
Could be fun, could also be silly.
Just submitted an application to join a CELTA cohort and while it was relatively easy busy work, somehow I already feel tired.
Hesitated much more on my 350 word response than necessary.. what is happening to my brain? Is this the result of an extended vacation from corporate emails and formalized education?
I am however, very curious and excited to pursue the CELTA certification and begin freelance english tutoring. Few pursuits can open as many doors as mastery of a foreign language, in today’s world.
Now, to wait three business days for a response. The suspense of potential embarrassment.
