So a few years back I went to a doctor to see about going back to a colostomy. He said this, "You don't want to take this step back. What you have now is the current best! How about these instead?" And went on to tell me about variants of what I already have. I've had my current system for 11 years at that point, and not once has it worked. Luckily I've found a doc now who will do the surgery for my earlyish next year!
