I'm six episodes in and told my friend (who loves it) that it was delightful, addictive trash. She was deeply offended because she's not on Tumblr and doesn't know that trash =/= bad.

Ah, hilariously @thebibliosphere​ literally just had the same conversation on her blog! Somebody got offended when she called it trash and she was like jfc i write romance novels, it’s basically a reclaimed slur at this point, but of course she said it more eloquently. I just think it’s funny that it was also a conversation about The Witcher.

in the second episode the bard (jaskier) is introduced and they have massive Gay Energy. also i think yennefer is introduced. ive watched four episodes and i recommend the first two for fic reading

Sigh that means I gotta find the second episode somewhere. I was really angling to get us to watch it at my friend’s house but nobody else was into it. Now I have to get creative!

I have never played the game and I read her stuff before the series. No canon knowledge necessary to enjoy her fics.

How Did You Know that’s exactly who I was talking about. LOL I actually explained that to my friends, non-fannish though they are-- listen guys, on AO3, there’s this, well, there’s a ton of really good fic by a writer literally everyone loves, so we’re all like, primed to get into this series even if we don’t know what the hap is fuckening because we want to read that sweet tasty delicious fic, ok!!! 

I don’t know who the fuck Emrys is but do I have to know that or can I just find out? Maybe I’ll just Google for spoilers, I honestly don’t care whether I watch anything or not. (Maybe it’s because while Whatsname Supermanguy is very scenic he is also very much not my type; I didn’t realize I wasn’t into beef but I definitely, like, don’t mind looking but have zero actual concrete interest, even in my normal sort of tepid demisexual sort of way where there’s not really much physical zing either; I would’ve said I have no physical type or anti-type, but it turns out, yeah no, scenic mountains of manliness are sort of decidedly Scenery Only. A pity, he’s clearly worked very hard on that scenery. Huh kind of like formal Versailles-style gardens; nice to look at, you can appreciate the effort, i would never ever want anything like that anywhere near where I actually existed.)

you haven't met jaskier/buttercup/dandelion/The Bard yet, which seems to be where most of the show fandom is shipping. but literally all you need to know about him is He's A Fantasy Story Bard, and exactly as chaotic bi and annoying as every other Fantasy Story Bard.

See this is the first reply I got and I was like ok, that is what I thought. I just read another thing where someone explained that in other canons, Jaskier is this irritatingly sort of slimy womanizer, and they explicitly decided in this version to make him An Incredibly Chaotic Bi Golden Retriever Omnisexual But Harmless type instead because it’s a new decade and we get new tropes, and I am in love with that, so I think I get it now. I support this and will subscribe to the newsletter.

I had no idea who Emrys was when I started reading "Misethere" and "Blooded Crown" and that didn't matter at all. Sublime storytelling.

Some of the canon events for Emrys are really strange, like the time he spent as a hedgehog. Yeah. You read that right. Hedgehog. I find I'm better off in the world(s) created by fanwriters.

You’re right, canon probably has no real bearing on being able to appreciate those stories. I honestly wish I, as a fanfic author, were better about that-- a lot of my work depends heavily on having consumed the source material. Not all of it, but. I’ve definitely read fic for more things than I’ve ever consumed the canon of. 

Not like you can figure out what’s going on watching the series either.

I appreciate & love any opportunity to talk about my WIPs so thank you ^^ I know you like Top Gun , thus I’ll share with you a scene from an upcoming chapter in Dash - Two ! It's a bit silly , but I didn't want to share any of the heavier stuff so openly here on tumblr , so have this little splice of lightheartedness :

At feeling the pitch of the deck begin to deepen, Ice moved and managed to wedge his feet up against the base of the rack in front of him, stretching out to brace his back against the one across from it. Essentially pinning himself between the two bolted structures. He saw Slider do the same at his side. Their quick action stopped them from sliding any further about the room.

But a yelp and thump from just past the racks over near the sink told Ice that Maverick wasn’t so lucky, either due to inopportune position or lack of quick action. From what he knew of the other aviator, the former was more likely than the latter. There wasn't much to grab onto where he was.

Although the following heavy clunk of boots hitting a bulkhead told Ice that he had been stopped by the far dividing wall of the room. Neither was Merlin having any more luck than the other pilot it seemed, for judging by the following thump and expletives that came from near the short lockers at the foot of their racks, Merlin hadn’t managed to keep ahold of an anchor until the deck levelled once again.

This drawn conclusion was confirmed when Merlin came sliding back on Ice and Slider’s left, down past the racks with his hands futilely attempting to grab at the sides of the bunks, until he was out of sight. No further sound came except for a dull thudding noise and strangled epithet from Maverick was heard. It sounded as if Merlin had slid down to collide with the pilot.

“You guys okay?” Ice called out from where he was, the deck was beginning to draw level as the carrier completed its turn against a swell, but he and Slider were slow to stand back up, cautious of being pitched right back off their feet if another wave managed to catch the ship at the right angle again.

“Yeah.” Came Merlin’s voice, he sounded no worse for wear, “Maverick broke my slide.”

“Did you break Maverick?” Slider called out the question before Ice could reply back.

“You don't have to sound so hopeful about that!” Was the quipped response from the man in question.

6 What bad habits do they have?

Noll is a walking bad habit XD The drinking is obviously his worst, I always feel like I tread the fine line between drinking to cope and alcoholism. Noll will never go that far. Not necessarily a habit but his tendency to be blunt, that's more a character trait but he could fix it if he tried.

Ren's bad habit is taking on too much and thinking it won't effect him. He definitely over works himself and then pays for it.

33 If they could change one thing about themselves, what would it be?

It'd be easy to say Noll would want to change his attitude but honestly if given the chance I don't think he would. Noll hates being a burden especially to Jasper so I think if he could make it where he didn't rely on Jasper so much he'd change that.

Ren would be his asthma. Even if the fire still happened Ren would have handled himself differently so it wouldn't have led to his lungs getting damaged as bad.

10 What kind of jokes make them laugh?

Neither of them are really joke people, they like witty conversations. Ren probably more since that's his style where as Noll will get bored if it's not something he's interested in. Jasper can usually make Noll laugh though as Jas is naturally funny.

47 What is your character's reaction when someone does something nice for them?

Noll would be 100& suspicious, even with Jasper. He's not used to people being nice to him. He probably wouldn't believe it right away.

Ren being the professional he is would be gracious, even friends he'd be pretty okay with it under certain circumstances. Noll he'd be wary of because he knows him.

They both try to be nice when the other isn't feeling well but it doesn't always happen that way.

It is. Among many other things, but yes, yes, it is.
