Rulindo district is very mountainous, containing Mount Kabuye (2700 m), an old volcano and highest mountain in Rwanda. The countryside is covered by grassland and small-scale farms, extending over rolling hills with areas of rugged mountains that extend southwest from a chain of volcanoes in the northeast. Our coffee comes from one of the most mountainious parts of the region. Thanks to its volcanic soils coffee gets its clean acidity, full body flavour, and chocolate and red berry aroma. Coffees grown in the high part of the region gets an average rainfall of 1250 mm per year. Tarrazú region is also called “Los Santos”, ‘The Saints’, because of the 3 main towns in the region - San Pablo, San Marcos and Santa Maria de Dota. The genuine Los Santos area is divided into 3 counties: Dota, Tarrazu and Leon Cortes. The coffee culture was established with the arrival of Spanish settlers to the Central Valley in 1779, who brought with them coffee plants. Plants were introduced to the country directly from Ethiopia by colonial administrators who encouraged coffee production. Costa Rica was considered as one of the poorest colonies because it did not have gold or any other valuable minerals for Spanish crown. Though, the climate supported coffee production and soon word spread about the natural beauty of Santa Maria de Dota, thus attracting many people and farmers to the region. Yirgacheffe is a relatively compact growing district in Sidama region, in South-Ethiopia. The district is well known for its unique taste of coffee beans and is considered by many specialists as a region where the best coffee beans in the world come from.
