hi hi! how's it been going 👋 any headcanons you've come up with lately?
It's been going! Life has been busy. But as for head canons I got tons!
A couple of the SFW side being;
- Zalfe likes to be squished. Specifically she likes people to just lay on top of her like a weighted blanket when she snuggles/sleep piles with friends or family. That's cozy maxing for her.
- Loqua sleeps so deep that its routine for someone to panic and violently shake her from time to time forcing her awake just to verify that she isn't dead.
- on land, Fjord is a tummy sleeper. He doesn't like putting his weight on his back.
- Kohv loves back scratches and to have the top of his head petted.
- Zalfe also LOVES to have the underside of her head tail and the top of it scratched. Really any hard to reach areas she enjoys a good scritch.
- Breech loves sarcasm. And he's fluent in it.
- Zalfe snores. Not loudly but every so often you'll hear a gentle snork or whistle come out of her when she's snoozing. It's more noticeable if her face is squished up or buried against something/someone. And you know she's deep sleeping if she starts drooling as well.
- Fjord talks in his sleep. Nothing coherent and often mumbled. Zalfe keeps a list of the more memorable ramblings of Fjord.
- Kohv has a kitten sneeze. Loqua sneezes like an old man hacking.

It had been a long day for Loqua, her back was a bit stiff from sitting hunched over charting maps for hours, and the calf she was carrying wasn't helping out her back. Yeah, this would definently be their last.
As she made her way to their hut, where she had plans to sprawl out over the entire bed, she noticed something....concerning. It was awfully quiet.
She peered into the hut, and she was greeted with a crime scene!
A bowl of paint was knocked onto the floor, where there was a clear silhouette of the culprit in the puddle of paint, a sea of tiny footprints everywhere, including larger footprints of someone in hot pursuit of the paint spiller, a smear of paint in the vague shape of tiny hands, and a tiny body along the shelves and floor where the culprit was apprehended followed by the larger prints leading out of the hut and towards the sea.
Smirking, she followed the prints where she eventually found Kohv, chest smothered in smeared paint, fighting an indignant and currently vibrant pink Zalfe in the water, trying to clean the paint off her with her kicking and trying her best to wriggle free with their older children standing on the coastline giggling up a storm.
"Sooooo-" She she chittered with a smirk, "Turned your back on the bowl for just a second around the opportunist, didn't you?"
"Don't start!" Kohv huffed, earning an even smugger smile from Loqua.
Fjord
He smiled as he peered over the ridge that separated the maw and cradle cove. His sister, Ibiki, gave him a firm poke between the eyes after spotting him.
"Impatient!" Ibiki playfully scolded him.
"Please~! You and Mom have been in there keeping me out of the loop for weeks! Show me the goods!" He mock pouted with a fake wail, earning an eyeroll from his twin.
"Okay, okay!" Ibiki chuffed as she held her newborn daughter up where Fjord could see.
"Oh, she's so gweeeeeen-" Fjord chittered with a goofy grin, reaching over the ridge, wiggling his fingers to get the calf's attention, "Just like Fyrr!"
"She's got his scowl too!" Selora hollard wading up alongside Ibiki.
"OH NO!" Fjord exclaimed turning around to look down at Fyrr "YOUR SCOWL? My gawd! I don't think I can handle two of your scowl."
"Haur haur....very funny." Fyrr chuffed playfully rolling his eyes as he also climbed up to take a look.
◀️for Fjord, and Vrelu respectively!
▶️ for Kohv and Loqua
I read this as past/future interactions between them tho do correct me if I was wrong!
Fjord and Vrelu
Fjord was seeing red, he stormed up to Vrelu and grabing the tip of his tail he gave Vrelu a good hard yank towing him out of the bay onto the cost.
"WHAT WAS THAT YOU PRICK?!" Vrelu barked having his head yanked.
"I could ask the same of you!" Fjord growled the curtain of yellow and orange beads around his neck rattling with his anger. "Way to make a complete ass of yourself!"
"Ass of MYSELF?! For practicing my displays? Way to support a guy Fjord!" Vrelu barked sarcastically
"I don't care about your displays! What the fuck was that stunt you pulled with Rilvi?!" He barked.
"What are you talking abo-" He was cut off with a firm bonk to the top of his head by Fjords closed fist, not hard anough to harm, but just enough to shut him up.
"You got ratted out! Afti told me everything! You threw paint in his face in the middle of your lessons. Whats your problem?!"
"What just trying to give the guy a lil color to his complexio-" Another bonk.
"You are 12 summers away from placing your adulthood mark in the Fa temple- FUCKING ACT LIKE IT!" Fjord barked.
"Just cause you're an adult doesn't make you my parent! And you sure as hell aint my mentor! Stop scolding me like a calf!"
"Then stop acting like one! You pull that shit with Rilvi again and i'll get your mother involved!"
Kohv and Loqua
How odd, where the realms did he wander off too...
Loqua thought as she looked around the isles. She hadn't seen much of her Husband today and not being out out and about was unlike him.
She'd been looking for him for nearly an hour before the idea to check the temples struck her. She scaled the spiral making her way directly to Fa. If there was one thing she knew it was that Zalfe mulled with her feelings the same way her father did. Getting lost in the beads.
She immediately went up to the second floor where she easily spotted his dark silhouette against the rainbow sea of beads around him. She frowned seeing him running their daughters chain through his fingers.
"You miss her don't you?" She sighed laying her chin on his shoulder, "I miss her too."
"I just hope she's doing well out there....do you think she's eating well?" Kohv said flatly as he ran his thumb over the large shell on the chain, "Do you think she'll come back soon?"
"You needed to experience things outside the pod to find your way. She does too...this will be good for her." Loqua smiled while gently kissing his shoulder to comfort him. "If she's anything like you...and she is. She'll be back before you can say steamed clams!"
Kohv smiled at the comfort before frowning at the beads in his hand, mumbling "...steamed clams." under his breath

Loqua and Kohv:
- What was their first date like?
Their first official date was actually rather mild, considering the fiery and passionate way their confessions played out. Their first date was a hunting trip with just the two of them. Most of the hunt was spent with them trying to one up who could scare the piss out of the other more by jumping out at each other from behind rocks and corals. But it was fun nonetheless!
- In what areas would they help one another grow?
Kohv helps Loqua curb her temper. He is the calm sea to Loquas volcanic temper. While they are both temperamental and emotional, Kohv is less likely to explode and thinks before he acts espeially as they get older. He helps her look inward instead of lashing out. Loqua's gentle wisdom is a side effect of Kohv's influence.
Loqua helps Kohv be less passive. Kohv, while emotional, tends to let a lot of things go like water rolling off his shoulders. Loqua inspires Kohv to have more of a drive and actively pursue things. It was Loqua's loudmouth reactive, spiteful influence that gave Kohv a backbone and the gall to want to attack the eel dead on.
Zalfe and Rilvi
- What do they like about one another? Include both physical and personality traits, anything they like.
Zalfe: Liked how creative Rilvi was and how sensitive he was. Rilvi was a bit of a sap...ok ALOT of a sap and also very very very gullible he was the perfect prank victim. She was also really attracted to his voice tho. He was a counter-tenor and sounded like an angel when he sang. She also thought the way moonlight reflected off his white skin was really, really pretty.
Rilvi: He thought Zalfe had a really nice butt great sense of humor. He actually really liked Zalfe's goofy personality and "I didn't think once before the words spewed from my mouth. 50/50 shot its either horrible and awkward or funny because it's unhinged." way with words. He also was obsessed with her beauty spots because due to his lack of patterns he found himself way more attracted to those with unique elements to their own. He also loved her molten honey eyes and how the light reflected off them. He had hoped their calf would have it's mother eyes.
- What interests/hobbies would they have in common?
Pranks. Zalfe and Rilvi loved to fuck with each other. From her painting him like a clownfish or a literal clown instead of Zorphim patternings. To Rilvi, painting "Bark at me if you honk to tonk" on the back of Zalfe's tail where she couldn't see when she snoozed. While the two also loved music and singing they also enjoyed Sand Surfing and racing eachother through the Red Sands. Their mutual competitiveness was usually the thing driving most of their hobbies.
Zalfe
- What are the character's usual types?
Zalfe is really into males who are more creative or humorous. She's drawn to people who are silly and sweet. And if they suffer with their words as much as she does thats only a bonus in mutual flubs! If anything she's a little more willing to try something new so long as he meets a majority of what she's drawn to.
- Do they have any fears or setbacks in terms of relationships?
Zalfe is TERRIFIED of the past repeating because she doesn't think she could handle losing another partner and child. But the biggest setback for Zalfe is the result of what one of the Elders said to her after she buried Rivon. The elder told Zalfe she prayed no child would ever again suffer the bad luck of having her as their mother, and that struck a nerve so deep it really fucked her up and shut her down for decades. Her biggest hang-up in a relationship is that she's worried she'd be a "dead end" for someone and that they couldn't have a lucky future with her, and that being with her is only a waste of their time, and they'd have a brighter future elsewhere.
- For cross-species pairs, what are some ways their different species traits impact their relationship?
I think a big impact with a certain cross-species relationship is just how different the cultural values are. With the Zorphin they are very "be true to you" and they see many things as blessings or completely normal in Zorphin culture that this partners culter saw as either weird/undesirable. Zalfe is opinionated and loud and doesn't really mince words, and she may easily offend..."Polite company" especially because Zorphin do not shy away from conflict or turn the other cheek when it comes to rumors. In some cases they wont bother but mama Loqua raised Zalfe that if someone wants to talk shit, challenge them to put their rupees where their mouth is. Zalfe would have to learn to master the art of biting her tongue to ensure she doesn't mess up a partners standing with their own species.
There's also small differences in how they communicate affection physcially that may take time to learn as the Zalfe likes to nibbl and use her claws to scritch and groom a partner, but due to the Zorphin skin being sensitive to slashing, she'd be so accustomed to "it would hurt them if I scratched them with my teeth." It would take her some time to unlearn the "gentle mouths" way she was raised. Her skin is thicker than the average Zorphin (Thanks Kohv!) so she wouldn't be too hung up on being nibbled on. But I think the biggest impact would be the time taken to learn what's too much and what's not enough.
Fjord
- What are their core values?
Loyalty, trust, and Monogamy. Fjord is extremely loyal to the people in his life and a romantic partner is no exception. His unwavering about monogamy because he's been cheated on in the past, and his mother was abandoned by his father. He wants a different future for his family if he can help it. Fjord also believes in clear boundries and communication. Yes he has a naturally flirty tone but like if you wanna hide serious things from him he will tire of you cause clearly you don't trust him. Also the second someone tries to pull a "its me or them" game, he will drop you like a sack of bricks and he will never speak to you again.
- What are the character's usual types? Is it one another or are they taking a chance on smth new?
Fjord is way more open about exploring new things, and honestly its hard to narrow down his type. He's dated and had flings with partners of different gender identities and races, and it seems the only thing physically in common with them was gold or brown eyes. Fjord also seems to be drawn to stubborn and strong-willed partners. He thinks it's incredibly attractive when someone smaller than him has the gall to chest up to him like he's the one smaller than them! He also likes those who play a game of cat and mouse with him. He's naturally flirty, but he does like a bit of a game. Though he also likes to go for the "quiet or shy" types because Fjords learned that those are usually the ones who are more receptive to the way he tends to flirt and turn such lovely shades of red.
Fyrr and Ibiki
- Which character confessed their feelings first? And how was it? What did they do? How were they feeling?
Fyrr was the first to let on that he had feelings for Ibiki, and he did so by giving his best attempt of a Zorphin fin flick at her. HE felt like a damn fool and thought he messed it up cause Fjord made a disgusting noise that he couldn't pinpoint if it was a taken aback gak or a surpressed cackle. Ibiki was receptive to it though because she returned the flick...only to earn another horrid noise though much more a haughty laugh from Fjord. Honestly, it was Fjord who was making it feel so much more awkward. It probably would have been smoother if he wasn't there! Honestly though...Ibiki probably wouldn't have been as receptive if she wasn't guaging her twins own responses to it. Honestly...did it go well...Fyrr still has doubts...but their married and are expecting a calf so....clearly it must have gone well right????
- What would their friends and family think of their relationship? Are they supportive or not too keen?
Fjord, the titanic dick that he is, had the usual big brother teasing "Ohhhh you liiiiike each other~ OOOOOOOHHHH SO SAAAAAPY" but thats always been Fjord and Ibiki's whole dynamic so thats how Fyrr knew Fjord at least was ok with it, cause he was teasing his sister about it and not straight up telling her to rip his fins off, which is how Fjord reacted about his sisterr's last suitor.
Selora was more than accepting of Fyrr. Honestly despite how extremely intimidating of a woman Selora is, despite being rather small for her kind (Fjord says his mother had chihuahua energy whatever the fuck that is) she was very warm and welcoming of Fyrr into the family. Honestly he prefers her much more than his own mother.
The Zorphin really don't have hang-ups about taking a partner of a different species/sub-species and he can't say he ever saw a single member fo the megapod show any issue, so that was never an issue in their relationship, though Fyrr initially thought it would be as his family was a lil more of the judgemental "you're marrying a woman who ran you over and is...unnaturally tall....and doesnt have gills...erm ok....i guess....if you're sure...." his mother's come around more as times gone on and with the baby on the way. But the reception really was night and day.

Kohv is usually a patient and gentle man, but he does not mince words, and it is unwise to mistake his gentleness for weakness. Kohv is as fearless as he is kind and as brutal as he is gentle if push came to shove. He would not back down from a fight or cower at conflict if in his heart he knows he's right. He can be a bit dramatic and quite petty if given the chance, and loves to play an endless game of cat and mouse with his Loqua. When it comes to his children and his grandchildren, he is stern but has almost too much love and affection to shower them in...he tends to spoil them.
~~~~ History: ~~~~
Content Warning: Kohv's history touches on heavy topics of trauma related to the death of family, loss of a grandchild, and grief. It's also very, very long!
Kohv was born in deep winter eons ago, and unfortunately, he does not remember much of his life with his birth pod outside of the day they all died. He was not very old...old enough that he ate solid food and could speak fine...but too young to have been without his parents. The fragments of that day that he remembers so vivily was how a deep quake rumbled from the sea floor before a terrible tidal wave swept over their migrating pod. He remembers failing to fight the current and the sting of his mother's claws as they raked his skin in a desperate attempt to keep him from being swept away, before the terrible pain of the current dragging him through a brambled tree. He remembers how much his body ached...how bruised he was...how shaken and terrified he was to wake up in that tree dangling over what was left of the cliffside.
He was so scared, and he remembers wailing for his mother for hours. His wails eventually caught the attention of a Pod of Zorphins, who had immediately flooded the area to aid any survivors of the tidal wave. He remembered how the pod stacked themselves one ontop of the other to reach him and remembers the vice grip he held onto the Woman who's arms pulled him close to warm him and examine his injuries. He remembers being so scared of these strangers but so relieved somebody found him, and the gentle way the woman said "you're ok baby, I'm Safi. Don't be scared, I have you, you're ok." as she stroked his head made him feel safe.
He was spooked to the point that he nearly jumped out of his skin when one of the calves of the pod barked at him, "Hi! I'm Loqua! What's your name?"
He was intimidated by her loud voice and nervous about her getting into his bubble, so he could only manage a meek whisper of his name as he tried to use Safi as a shield to hide behind. His attention was only pulled from her when he heard a beautiful yet mournful singing echo from deeper inland, where the other adults were searching for others like Kohv. When he asked what that was, he remembers Loqua dismissing it as just the adults singing as she shoved a shell in his hand and ran down the beach to her own mother, while Safi told him that that song just meant he'd be traveling with them for a while. Back then, he didn't understand but over the years, he learned that the song was a song for the dead and that they found his original pod, but they were gone.
At first, he was scared being with these strangers, but he always felt safest with Safi. He vividly remembers the first day he arrived to the Isles when the pod leaders were discussing what they should do with him, Safi was most vocal about keeping him. It turned out she was unable to have her own calf and was insistent she tend to Kohv, and from that day on, she was his mother. Over the years, Kohv would forget his blood family's faces.
Growing up with the Zorphins was...interesting to say the least. They were so much faster than him and could jump so much higher than him. He often had trouble keeping up with the other kids when he was young. That odd girl, Loqua, however, always slowed her pace so he could keep up. She was insistent that she'd be his best friend and show him all the ropes of being a Zorphin. Honestly, her boldness was more intimidating than her loudness. But fast friends they became. And as Kohv grew, so did his strength, speed, and agility. Eventually, he'd even outpace a coouple of his peers in speed and agility...but not Loqua. No, that girl was like a bat out of hell the way she'd tear through the water with a spear.
Her aggressive temper and ability to bark in such a way you'd feel her voice in your bones would cause a flutter in his stomach. Once they hit their teen years, Kohv and Loqua had this will they wont they cat and mouse game. Were they just flirty friends or something more? The two never really...broke that barrier... Kohv wanted to approach the topic directly, but he knew Loqua like he knew his own hand, and figured she'd like it to be a bit of a game.
Early into their adulthood, just 2 summers after Loqua and Kohv had come of age to place their handprints in the halls of Fa, a pod of Zora just like him migrated through Necluda. It had been over a hundred years since he'd seen anyone like him...it was..odd..and he had a deep yearning to learn about them...to follow them. He'd managed to befriend one of the other young bulls and was invited to join them. And at first, he was terrified to follow so far out of the Necluda sea. But then he thought of Loqua...maybe if he left, she'd follow him and admit her feelings and ask him to stay...or maybe she'd wish him farewell and good luck...either way, he'd have an answer as to what they were. He still remembers that horrible night when to told Loqua he was leaving...the...things she said to him...how angry she was.
"You selfish balloon-headed foghorn blowhole prick! FINE! LEAVE! SEE WHAT I CARE!" Was one of the ...very..colorful things that came out of her mouth that night before she stormed off. It tore at his heart like glass daggers...he didn't think saying he was leaving would anger her so much...hurt her so much...make her lash out like that. He did decide to leave with the other Pilot pod after that night. He didn't really want to leave his adoptive mother or their family or his friends behind. But he was just as pissed off and hurt and upset by Loqua's words as she was, hearing he was leaving, that he knew he needed space, and it would give him a chance to learn about his birth culture.
And to be honest...Kohv hated it with the Pilot pod. They were...fine...the migration wasn't anything hard for him to do physically, hell, he physically enjoyed migrating! He was leaving them in the dust by comparison to how fast he was used to swimming with the Zorphin. No, what truly bothered him was how they acted so much differently than the Zorphin. They were so...quiet. They didn't bellow from their hearts as they traveled, and often him singing to himself or speaking too loudly or breaching the water to flip and splash earned him several off-putting looks from older members. He had made a few friends, sure...Zora his age were curious about him...but he could tell that he was the odd man out. It was so awkward. And his social blunders made him hot with shame. Zorphin were usually so direct or shameless with how they talked or how they courted...he quickly learned this pod was...NOT like that. And even when he gave courtship at least a try to learn...it was just awful and awkward and he really couldn't make two cents of it. He was so used to fin flicking as a sign of interest that he didn't consider it might be seen as gaudy until after he made an embarrassment out of himself doing it.
Eventually, the pod migrated back towards Necluda where Kohv bumped into one of his good friends from the Megapod and he was delighted to see a familiar group of faces and how freeing it was to just yap without worrying about oversharing. He was shell-shocked to learn, apparently, a rumor had gone around the pod that Kohv rejected a pearl from Loqua and that she'd been wearing a black one after their fight. He was gobsmacked because from what he could recall, Loqua had never presented him a pearl, hell they hadn't even done a darlings dance, so this rumor must have clearly been a fib by someone who overheard them fighting. But the more he thought on it, the more he realized...was it a rock she threw into the sea when she barked at him to leave? He didn't catch sight of it...but he heard it...and oh...oh no....that would explain the anger...
Realizing they were long overdue for a conversation, he b-lined for where he knew Loqua's pod would be prowling this time of year. And sure enough, he found her among them. And that conversation was...ALOT. A lot of big emotions alot of bitter feelings that had been festering while he traveled, being released...a lot of overdue apologies and confessions...the shattering of that black pearl in his teeth...and the very passionate aftermath...and as a result of it all the birth of their first daughter Caspia...and Kohv eventually giving Loqua a pearl first thing after she and Caspia could leave cradle cove...then eventually the births of their other children Lyrova, Zalfe, and Dealu...their relationship sure started messy but thank the stars it did not stay that way after.
Things were great over those next several decades. Kohv was a doting dad who was often the "Two weeks is more than fair" to their mother's "you're grounded till you're 160." Eventually, their children came of age and started to forge their own paths in life. Zalfe and Lyrova were expecting their first calves, and Kohv was ecstatic to be a grandpa. But that bliss didn't last when the Great Eel began its rampage. Seeing the harm it was causing his people...the way its poisoned body rotted the Isles and made the Zorphin sick. A deep anger welled up in Kohv, he could not stand idly by while these monsters rot slowly killed his family... how skinny his daughters were so late in their pregnancies as a result of the famine it caused...how many members of the pod fell asleep and never woke up due to how weak they all were. It was horrific.
So Kohv rallied and took the Zorphin who were still physically fit enough to fight, to go after the Eel. It was the only chance their pod had to prevent more deaths without abandoning their home of generations. Kohv new leaving the Isles wasn't an option...the expecting mothers, the children, the sick, and the elderly wouldn't survive migration to a new territory. Killing the beast was the only way and Kohv knew it.
However...Kohv never considered how many of them would die in the effort to kill that beast. Yes they had killed it and the parts of its body that were not covered in gloom was a bounty of food for the starving pod...but the cost to his family to this day weighs so heavily on his heart. He had found what was left of Zalfe's mate, Rilvi...his heart wept, picking up that torn song bead...he didn't know how he'd break the knews to Zalfe...but he had to.
When they returned to the Isles bad news only became worse. The way Zalfe collapsed into his arms and wailed like she was a calf again told him that the death of Rilvi wasnt the only bad news...and when Loqua told him Zalfe had lost her Calf Kohv was besides himself. He didn't know how to help his baby...she was hurting and he had no idea how to help her. And when Lyrova delivered her daughter and the panic that set in when her milk didnt come in that lead her to beg Zalfe to use her milk to feed Tilda in the chaos of the argument, Kohv didn't really think, He took Tilda from her mother and placed her into Zalfe's arms. He knew it was so cruel in hindsight given her loss, but he knew Lyrova would blame Zalfe and would resent her if she didnt and tides forbid something happened to Tilda. To this day he holds so much regret for the emotional toll of it all and how it weighed on Zalfe...He know's she hasn't quite recovered from it all. He wishes he could help her...he knows Zalfe doesn't regret taking care of Tilda. But it hasn't weighed easily on Kohv, all he wants is for his children and grandchildren to be happy...for Zalfe to be happy.
🔒 What is a secret they’ve sworn never to tell?
- That Kohv joined the Pilot Whale pods migration, hoping it would make Loqua chase after him. He was a little bit of a drama queen back then, hoping that maybe if he left, they'd have this whole romantic confession where she begs him to stay. But instead of asking him to stay, she called him a bolderheaded moron and to get the fuck out of her sight. He will NEVER admit the truth to her. His pride won't let him.
🫳 Who do they feel they owe, but never paid back?
- His adoptive mother, Safi. Honestly, he doesn't think he could ever truly pay Safi back for taking him in and loving him like her own calf when his family died. He's so incredibly grateful to her and really all of the pod.
🧨 What’s the quickest way to set them off, even if they hide it well?
- Insult him. Kohv has the patience of a saint, and he hides his temper very well. But he will not tolerate blatant disrespect towards him.
🪶 How do they laugh?
- Kohv has a boisterous laugh! It's deep and very loud, one you could feel in your bones. He's pretty easy to make laugh, be it from a light chuckle to a full keeled over and his ribs hurt cackle.
🧩 What’s a truth about themselves they refuse to admit?
- That he actually wants to migrate. His instincts scream for him to follow the migratory routes of his original pod. He would never admit it because he understands how his family would be hurt by his leaving, even if only for a time. And he doesn't want to admit it because he can't help but feel it makes him seem like he doesn't love his life with the megapod.
🗡️ What is a scar that they have but never talk about?
- His dorsal fin, shoulder, and face scars. They are reminders of the horrible event that he survived, but his original pod didn't. He doesn't see them as anything to take pride in, and despite it being a few centuries since it happened, it still hurts his heart to think about it. He received most of them when the tidal wave ripped him through a tree, and his Fin snagged against the mangled branches. But the scars on his face and shoulder were from his mother's claws scraping him when she attempted to grab him
