Today we're scrolling through an illustrated Ethiopian protective roll, made in the 1700s. It contains numerous prayers against barya, legewon, evil spirits, demons, magical cunning and sorcery, and a variety of illnesses and conditions caused by these forces, such as smallpox, cough and sore throat, migraine, colic, and malaria.
