Favourite Haikyu! quote so far: "I don't have the luxury nor the time to worry about every little thing that goes wrong. I can't fix everything right here and now."
Sometimes I get really in my head about doing things perfectly, especially when I'm being timed, and I panic when a mistake happens and is quickly joined by other mistakes. At that point I just wanna give up and start over but I don't have that option. Lots of practice beforehand helps, of course. But in the moment, knowing what to say to myself to snap out of it and refocus helps a lot.
There's no point to getting mad at myself out of some mis-timed need to hold myself accountable. Deep breath and eyes on the next target.
The pragmatism gives me direction and makes the bounce-back feel dignified instead of a dog tucking its tail and slinking back. I know I messed up! But we got bigger fish to fry.
UPDATE: another quote! "chance really does favour the prepared"
And it's so true. Once you know what you want and how to work towards it, you can be on the lookout for opportunities, and you only need to succeed once in some cases. Even if you have to succeed multiple times, each time you try you get better, and slowly earn consistent outcomes.
