Please bear with me on this subject, as I am not a medical professional, and this was a bit difficult for me to understand. I did my best, and if I have made any mistakes, please correct me!
Below, there is a table of Millon's proposed subtypes of Paranoid Personality Disorder (PPD):
This post can hopefully serve as both an image ID of this table and a simplified explanation of what the contents of the table are.
An obdurate paranoid is mainly characterised by compulsive features/behaviours. The table lists an obdurate paranoid's traits as such:
"Self-assertive, unyielding, stubborn, steely, implacable, unrelenting, dyspeptic, peevish, and cranky stance; legalistic and self-righteous; discharges previously restrained hostility; renounces self-other conflict."
Due to behaviours also associated with Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD), an obdurate paranoid is extremely stubborn and very set in their ways. An obdurate paranoid may have, similar to a pwOCPD, certain ways of doing things, and may especially feel as though people are out to get them if their ways of doing things are challenged (from my understanding).
A fanatic paranoid is a pwPPD who may have traits of NPD as well. Millon proposes the idea that a fanatic paranoid has "narcissistic features" that are rooted in paranoia, explaining it as so:
"Grandiose beliefs are irrational and flimsy; pretentious, expensive supercilious contempt and arrogance toward others; lost pride reestablished with extravagant claims and fantasies."
Essentially, a fanatic paranoid's feelings and beliefs of grandiosity are rooted in the paranoia that a pwPPD may feel; the paranoia that people are out to get them. Therefore, a fanatic paranoid has grandiose beliefs and feelings to feel as though they have one-upped others and cannot be taken advantage of.
A querulous/querulant paranoid behaves in a way that may overlap with people who are overly litigious. A litigious person is someone who is "too ready to take legal action to settle disputes," meaning that a querulous paranoid is very quick to defend themselves when feeling attacked. Millon's description of a querulant paranoid is as follows:
"Contentious, cavilling, fractious, argumentative, faultfinding, unaccommodating, resentful, choleric, jealous, peevish, sullen, endless wrangles, whiny, waspish, snappish."
This can be simplified to understand that a querulous paranoid is always on guard for an attack on their personality/beliefs/reputation, and therefore is very quick to snap back. A querulant paranoid comes off as very resentful, and their distrust towards others comes off as anger.
An insular paranoid has behaviours that overlap with Avoidant Personality Disorder (AvPD). An insular paranoid is very reclusive and avoids people to a sometimes extreme degree to protect themselves against imagined dangers.
"Reclusive, self-sequestered, hermitical; self-protectively secluded from omnipresent threats and destructive forces; hypervigilant and defensive against imagined dangers."
This means that an insular paranoid has extreme fears of being wronged or exploited by others, and therefore isolates themselves so as not to have those fears confirmed. They become defensive when faced with something that can be interpreted as a threat to them, and they are overall quite anxious about being wronged.
Lastly, a malignant paranoid is a pwPPD whose paranoia comes out in the form of intimidating other people and behaving in such a way that makes other people slightly afraid of them. A malignant paranoid harbours paranoia that is combated by persecuting others. Detailed a bit more below:
"Belligerent, cantankerous, intimidating, vengeful, callous, and tyrannical; hostility vented primarily in fantasy; projects own venomous outlook onto others; persecutory beliefs."
This means that a malignant paranoid's paranoia is chalked up to the result of others' wrongdoings, and therefore, the malignant paranoid can blame others and justify their paranoia as such - as a real worry about something because other people have done something wrong and therefore created grounds for concern.
