" 1. Aspirin
Some teas, such as cranberry, ginger, and ginkgo biloba, may interact with aspirin and increase the risk of bleeding, particularly when consumed in large amounts.
One serious side effect of aspirin is that it can slow blood clotting, making it easier to bleed, especially in the stomach and brain.
2. Iron
Teas high in tannins, such as green and black tea, can reduce iron absorption because tannins form complexes with iron, making it unavailable for use by the body.
This may be especially concerning for people at risk of low iron levels who rely on iron supplements, including women who are menstruating, pregnant people, or those who have just had a baby, or long-distance runners.
However, some researchers found that taking these teas at least one hour before or after taking iron can help reduce complex formation, thereby increasing iron absorption.
3. Folic Acid
Some studies suggest that excessive green tea intake can significantly reduce blood folate levels.
Catechins, an antioxidant found in some teas like green and oolong teas, can also reduce how much folate your body can absorb.
As a result, experts advise pregnant women to limit consumption of these teas as they may increase the risk of spina bifida in their babies. Spina bifida is a birth disorder in which the spine doesn’t fully develop, and not getting enough folic acid during pregnancy is a risk factor.
4. Acetaminophen
Some teas, such as Kava tea and hibiscus tea, may affect how Tylenol (acetaminophen) works and increase its side effects.
Acetaminophen and kava both carry a risk of increased liver toxicity, especially when taken in high doses. Therefore, consuming kava tea while taking acetaminophen may further increase your risk of liver injury.
Other teas, such as hibiscus tea, have been found to increase the removal of acetaminophen from the blood, which can make the acetaminophen less effective or cause its effect on pain relief not to last long.
Some researchers recommend taking acetaminophen about 3 to 4 hours before drinking hibiscus tea to avoid shortening the effects of the medication.
5. Omeprazole
Some studies have found that teas containing extracts of gingko biloba, goldenseal, and ginger may affect how omeprazole works.
... One serious side effect associated with omeprazole is the risk of bleeding. Since ginkgo biloba extracts have similar side effects, taking them together may increase your risk of bleeding.
In addition, teas like golden seal and ginger can also increase stomach acid and interfere with the effectiveness of antacids (medicines used to neutralize stomach acid) and omeprazole.
6. Birth Control Pills
Some studies suggest that taking chamomile or St. John's wort along with birth control pills might decrease the effects of birth control pills.
If you are taking any of these supplements, it may help to space them appropriately or, if necessary, switch to a different herbal tea.
7. Allergy Medicines
Some herbal teas, such as St. John’s wort and black cohosh, may reduce the effectiveness of allergy medicines like Allegra (fexofenadine).
If you are taking allergy medicines, it may help to reduce the number of tea servings or, if necessary, discontinue them for the duration of treatment."

FDA Indications/Dosages:
Short-term treatment of active duodenal ulcer: 20 mg daily for 4-8 weeks.
Short-term treatment of erosive esophagitis or poorly responsive gastroesophageal reflux disease: 20 mg daily for 4-8 weeks.
Pathological hypersecretory conditions including Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, multiple endocrine adenomas, and systemic mastocytosis: Initial dose is 60 mg once a day. Doses up to 120 mg given three times a day have been administered. Some patients have been treated continuously for more than 5 years.
Maintenance therapy of healing erosive esophagitis: 20 mg given once daily.
To maintain the healing of erosive esophagitis and gastric ulcers: 20 mg given once daily.
For the treatment of GERD or other acid-related disorders in pediatric patients over the age of 2 years: For patients <20 kg give 10 mg daily. For patients >20kg give 20 mg daily.
As an adjunct in the treatment of H. pylori infection:
Dual Therapy: Omeprazole 40 mg once daily with clarithromycin 500 mg given 3 times a day for 14 days. If an ulcer was present at initiation of treatment, follow with omeprazole 20 mg once a day for 14 days.
Triple Therapy: Omeprazole 20 mg with clarithromycin 500 mg plus amoxicillin 1000 mg given twice daily for 10 days. If an ulcer was present at initiation of therapy, follow with omeprazole 20 mg once a day for 18 days.
Monitor: BMD, Mg
Pharmacology/Pharmacokinetics:
Omeprazole is a proton-pump inhibitor (PPI) that suppresses the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system at the secretory surface of the gastric parietal cell. The enzyme system is involved in the movement and production of gastric acid. Omeprazole is acid-labile and is formulated as enteric-coated granules. Onset after oral administration occurs within 1 hour and reached a maximum at 2 hours. The binding to the (H+/K+)-ATPase results in antisecretory activity that lasts for more than 72 hours.
Drug Interactions:
Increases plasma levels of diazepam, phenytoin, and warfarin by inhibiting oxidative metabolism. May also interact with other drugs metabolized via the cytochrome P450 system (cyclosporine, disulfiram, benzodiazepine). Since the pharmacological effect of omeprazole increases gastric pH, absorption of drugs in which bioavailability is determined by gastric pH may be changed. This would include ketoconazole, digoxin, cyanocobalamin, ampicillin esters, and iron salts. Antacids may be used concomitantly. Voriconazole may increase plasma levels. Omeprazole inhibits the metabolism of cilostazol. Omeprazole prevents the conversion of clopidogrel to its active metabolite.
Contraindications/Precautions:
Animal studies have shown a dose-related increased risk for gastric carcinoid tumors with long-term use. The levels of drug needed to produce tumors far exceeded the normal daily dose (up to 352 times the human dose). Pregnancy Category C.
Adverse Effects:
Side effects are rare but may include back pain, cough, constipation, rash, and dizziness.
Patient Consultation:
Take 30 minutes prior to eating.
Antacids may be taken at the same time.
Store in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and children.
If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If it is closer to the time of your next dose than the dose you missed, skip the missed dose and return to your dosing schedule. Do not double doses.
Contact a physician if the above side effects are severe or persistent.
For patients who have difficulty swallowing capsules, the contents of a capsule can be added to one tablespoon of applesauce, swallowed immediately and followed by a glass of cool water. The contents of the capsule should not be crushed or chewed.
I have been complaining all day about how bad my throat and chest hurt and it’s just now at 9:30 at night that I remembered I didn’t take my acid reflux medicine this morning and all my suffering has been because I forgot to take it so I just now took one and god I hope it will make this go away quickly I forgot how bad my acid reflux is.
To anyone with Tourettes/tic disorders, if you're having a difficult time finding medication to help, I've found that for some reason, taking allergy medicine helps calm my tics. I usually take omeprazole and zyrtec every day, and most of my tics stay calm. Idk if this will work for you, you should definitely talk to a doctor first, but I hope it will help.
