CHAPTER NO./ONE SHOT: Chapter Eighteen
AUTHOR: ventusmagisumbra
ORIGINAL IMAGINE:Â Imagine Loki is rescuing you from a demon as a favour for your mother, and you end up together.Â
RATING: M
NOTES/WARNINGS: -
âShe took the card off the wall?â Ares asked, and Loki nodded.
âTheyâre making their wings and masks now. And she said she wanted it. She also said she had something to do afterwards too, but she wouldnât tell me what.â Loki said.
âThatâs what Ignis said,â Sol said, narrowing her eyes suspiciously.
âSo did Umbra.â Izanami said.
âYou think maybe they all had the same idea?â Sun said, and Ares nodded.
âProbably. Broken Chaos, but not entirely broken. Bound to have the same ideas.â Izanami said.
âI wonder what it is.â Loki said, rolling over onto his stomach. He was lying on the couch with Sun, and Sol was perched on her armrest again. Izanami was draped over Aresâ chair. Loki had a bad feeling about something, but he couldnât place it. Like he was missing something about Ventus, but he didnât know what it was. He wanted to voice his concerns, but he wasnât sure that the others would get it.
âWhat is it?â Sun asked, kicking his hand.
âWhat?â Loki asked, snapping out of his reverie.
âYouâve been staring at Aresâ foot for awhile now. Either youâre really into that, or somethingâs on your mind.â Sun said. Loki nodded. âSo itâs the foot fetish.â Sun said.
âNo.â Loki said, kicking Sunâs hand. âIâm worried about Ventus.â He said.
âWhat for?â Sun asked.
âI donât knowâŠI get the feeling somethingâs going to happenâŠand that Iâm missing something about her. I donât know what it is. I donât understand it.â Loki said, letting out a light hiss.
âHas she told you anything?â Sun asked. Loki shook his head. âWell, maybe this is why. Youâre getting angry over it.â He said, and Loki lifted his head.
âNo, Iâm not.â He said. Sun raised an eyebrow. âIâm just worried. What if what I miss is something that threatens her life later?â He asked, and Sun acknowledged this.
âYouâre afraid sheâll be hurt.â He said.
âWhat, you wouldnât be?â Loki asked.
âI didnât say I wasnât.â Sun replied, throwing him a glance. Loki looked up at Sol, who was fidgeting and looking at Izanami. Loki narrowed his eyes, willing her to ask Izanami to speak privately with her.
âSol, come on.â Izanami said, and Loki looked at the matron, relieved. The two goddesses left, and when they shut the door, Ares let out a sigh of relief.
âSol was moving so much, I was afraid sheâd burn something.â He said, and then he glanced at his two friends. âWhat?â He asked.
âAnything with Silex?â Loki asked.
âWhat do you mean?â Ares asked.
âI donât know, I justâŠlook at Ventus, and sheâs different.â Loki said.
âItâs only been a few days.â Ares said.
âYes, but tell me you feel it.â Sun said, and Ares was quiet. He nodded slowly.
âI do. But I donât know what it is.â He said, and Loki sat up, flicking out his knives, playing with them in thought.
âAnd that other thing. The bad thing.â Loki said. âI canât shake it.â He said, standing, and Ares nodded.
âI feel that too.â He said.
âI donât. But itâs not to say youâre wrong.â Sun said, still lying down. Loki slid his thumb along the edge of the knife, and he stopped.
âWhat?â Ares said.
âI havenât seen my children for a little while.â Loki said, looking up. And there was a scream from down the hall, and Loki flew, Sun and Ares right behind him, and Loki threw himself into the throne room, and he froze as he took in the scene. Everything was fine, except Hostem stood in the room, and he turned to Loki, and he smiled. Loki narrowed his eyes, disliking the smile, for it showed that Hostem knew something he didnât, and he didnât like it. Nox was in her throne, and her children were on either side, Hades to her right, and they were staring at him and Ares.
âHow lovely for you to join us.â Hostem said, and Loki saw Thanatos spin his scythe.
âHostem.â He said warningly. âYou go too far this time.â He said.
âItâs a game, father.â Hostem said.
âNot when you include others in the game.â Thanatos snapped.
âShe did. Iâm using the same players.â Hostem said, looking back at Thanatos, who glanced at Nox.
âYou canât do this.â She said.
âDo what?â Sun said, and Loki sidled around the room and he got to Ventus and took her hand. Sun leapt over Hostem and Ares walked over to Silex.
âI took something of Aresâ and Lokiâs.â Hostem said. Ares narrowed his eyes.
âTook what?â He asked. Loki narrowed his eyes at the demon, and Hostem smiled and snapped his fingers. And there appeared next to him a large sphere, and it showedâŠtwo men, trapped in a dark room. Loki was puzzled, but as he glanced at Ares, he was not confused anymore.
âMy children.â Ares said, staring. âPhobos and Deimos.â He said, and he locked his eyes on Hostem, and took a step.
âAhâŠI wouldnât. Iâm able to hurt them.â Hostem said, smiling. Loki felt dread as Hostem turned to him. âAnd as for youâŠâ He said, and the sphere showed Hel. Fenrir. Jormungandr. Chained. And Loki snarled, his knives flashing, rage exploding inside him, but Hostem had his children, and now he couldnât do anything to him.
âHow did you get them?â He growled, and Hostem laughed a little.
âThey were outside. And I took them.â He said, and Thanatos hissed at his son.
âYou damage too much.â He said, flapping the two pairs of wings on his back, spinning his scythe. Nemesis stared at the demon, and Hypnos had a slight smile on his face.
âHostem, my dear nephewâŠâ Hypnos said, and Hostem turned to his uncle. âI have a question for you.â He said. Hostem raised an eyebrow. âWhose children are they?â He said, gesturing to Broken Chaos. Hostem tilted his head.
âHades.â He said.
âAnd the mother?â Hypnos asked.
âPersephone, I assumed.â Hostem said. Hypnos closed his eyes and laughed.
âOhâŠmy dear. How wrong you are.â He said. Hostemâs eyes widened in wonder.
âOh?â He said.
âTheyâre mine, dear.â Nox said, and Hostemâs mouth opened slightly, and he closed his eyes.
âAhâŠI see.â He said, and he opened his eyes. And then he looked horrified. âOhâŠno.â He said, and he stared at Ventus, Flumine, and Silex.
âFlirting with your aunts?â Hypnos asked lightly, and Hostem shook his head, shaking a little.
âNo. ThatâsâŠnoâŠâ He said, and Hypnos laughed. Loki squeezed Ventusâ hand, still worried for his children.
âWhy canât you take him?â Sun asked Nox, who shook her head.
âHeâs keeping them in a different place. I canât find them that fast.â She said, and Hostem returned to the conversation.
âSpecifically why I did that.â Hostem said, and Loki was shaking. âSo I could have you twoâŠâ He said, looking at Ares and Loki, who glanced at each other, knowing they would have to.
âIâll go with you.â Sun said, but Loki pulled himself from Ventus, and held a knife in front of himself, glaring at Sun.
âNo.â He said. âYou stay here, and you will protect them while weâre not here.â Loki said, and Ares nodded, giving Sun the same look.
âBesides, Iâll get you soon anyway, but donât worry Loki, Ares, I promise not to hurt them.â Hostem said, and they glanced at him, and Loki narrowed his eyes.
âBut?â He said.
âButâŠI canât promise you wonât be ordered to hurt them.â He said, and Loki closed his eyes, and he opened them onto Ventus, and he could see she was thinking of the same memory, just this morning when heâd promised her he wouldnât hurt her no matter what.
âThatâs okay.â She whispered, and he looked away, taking a breath.
âIâll avoid it.â He said, and Hostem smiled.
âNot if I tell you specifically.â He said, and Loki snarled, torn between his children and Ventus. He couldnât choose, for it was not a choice, he had to pick both.
âLoki, it will be okay.â Sun said, and Loki nodded.
âWellâŠas heartwarming as this isâŠâ Hostem said, and he grabbed Loki and Ares by the arm. âIâll be back for them.â He said, nodding to Ventus and her siblings, who exchanged glances, and then Loki and Ares were transported with Hostem back to the fortress where Ventus and her siblings had been kept. Hostem let go, and he sat in a chair in the room they were in. Ares was staring at the floor, and Loki was dreading when he would have to hurt Ventus.
âAlright, in actuality, I wouldnât order you to hurt them. I hope you know that.â Hostem said, dropping the smile. âMaybe a little to force them along, but not what you two are imagining.â He said, watching them intently. âIâm also not so crazy as I seem, donât worry. I wonât hurt your children unless you refuse meâŠwhich I should hope wonât be oftenâŠI also allow good reasons for why you canât or wonât do things. Iâm not unreasonable.â He said.
âYou took my children.â Ares said, glaring at him.
âYes, so you would do what I said. Theyâre completely fine, just confined. And unable to use their powers, but still, they havenât been harmed. Same for your children Loki. I donât expect you to like me, just understand Iâm not unreasonable. Odin hurt your children more than I will.â He said, and Loki took a breath, seeing the reason, still disliking it.
âI never said goodbye to her.â He said, and Hostem snorted.
âYouâll be seeing herâŠinâŠletâs say a month. So donât worry.â He said, and Loki looked away.
âAnd youâll make us take them with us.â He said.
âOh yes. But here, just to make it easier, when you get Ventus, and for you Ares, Silex, but when you get them and bring them here, theyâre yours. Do what you want with them. Except send them away, I canât let you do that.â Hostem said, and Loki and Ares glanced at each other.
âThat doesnât make it easier.â Ares said.
âIt should. It means no one else is allowed to touch them.â Hostem said, and he stood, and Loki looked closer at him.
âYou have aâŠâ He said, drawing a line on his own face. Hostem had a crack in his face, revealing reddish black flesh underneath. He touched it, and it healed.
âThank you. Anyway, letâs go meet who else I have with me.â Hostem said, and Ares followed him, revelling in the aspect of war, even against his loved one. Loki walked more slowly, thinking of how he could find his children and free them.
âLoki, I wouldnât.â Hostem said, and Loki glanced at him. âI donât trust you to not try and find a way out of this.â He said, looking back at the Trickster God, and Loki narrowed his eyes.
âI will. Donât worry.â Loki replied, and Hostem nodded.
âI expect so. I just hope it will wait until the game is over.â Hostem said. Loki stopped and studied the demon, and Hostem returned his look.
âWhatâs the point?â He asked, and Hostem looked away.
âHonestlyâŠIâm not sure. Itâs just a game you see.â He said.
âYouâre involving too many people. Both of you.â Loki said.
âAres, would you go to that room down the hall, to the left, please? Thank you.â Hostem said, and he turned back to Loki. âYou think I donât know that? It was just a game, it really was, and then she almost killed me. So I killed her consortâŠErebus.â He said.
âErebus was the God of Darkness, he was primordial, why would you do that?â Loki snapped. âHe was important.â He said.
âYes, and Hades still has his soul, trying to find a way to resurrect him. But the Mistress was so full of power, and a lot of it came from Erebus. And now this is showing her that she isnât as powerful as she thinks she is.â Hostem said.
âThose two were a partnership, they were the Dark Force.â Loki said. âThe Lightâs too powerful now, thatâs whatâs wrong with the world.â He said, realizing.
âThe Light?â Hostem said.
âYou ever heard of the Father?â Loki said, and Hostem shook his head. âWhat about Lucifer?â He asked, and Hostem nodded.
âHeâs here.â He said, and Loki raised his eyebrow. âThatâs who you look likeâŠâ He said, and Loki blinked.
âWhatever. You killed Erebus, and the Dark Lord is gone. Mistress of the Night remains, but she isnât enough to keep the Father at bay. We should resurrect ErebusâŠâ Loki said, trailing off.
âAfter this is over, sure.â Hostem said.
âAnd when will it be over?â Loki asked.
âAfter you get Broken Chaos, so a month and however long Nox takes to execute her plan.â Hostem said.
âWhat is her plan?â Loki asked.
âShe canât resurrect Erebus. Not yet. So to stop me she will probably send in her family. And Iâm telling you this now, you will fight for meâŠotherwiseâŠâ Hostem said, and Lokiâs nostrils flared as he thought of his children.
âFine. But I will be defeated, just as you will. And my children donât die just because I failed.â Loki said, pointing at Hostem, and the demon nodded.
âOf course not. We will fail, but there might be a chance.â He said, and Loki shook his head, and walked past Hostem, down the hall, into the room that Ares had gone in, and he stared, shocked.
