Nagisa is not a femboy, nor is he a helpless damsel in distress, but I’ll get to that later. Throughout the show, we see how uncomfortable he is with his femininity, and how he doesn’t like when he’s forced into cross dressing by his class (SOMETHING THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE DONE). We as a fandom looked at a character who has been abused physically and mentally for not being feminine enough and who struggles with his masculinity, and decided to emasculate him even more, not considering the fact that all he wanted was to be seen as “more of a man” no matter how absurd that is when we truly think about how insignificant gender is in the bigger picture and how much it matters. We really went “Hmm.. this character doesn’t want to be seen as feminine and wants to be perceived as masculine.. HES A FEMBOY!”

And I’m not saying that wearing a dress makes you less of a man if that’s what someone takes away from that, all clothing is gender neutral and yall can fight me on that, what I’m talking about is that Nagisa perceives “feminine” clothing as threatening to his masculinity, something he already thinks he lacks, so forcing him into a dress or a skirt is harmful to him when it happens in the show, and it’s also not an accurate depiction of his character when it’s done by the fandom.

Now, moving on to the “damsel in distress” situation, there’s nothing wrong with being a damsel, neither is there something wrong with being in distress, but Nagisa isn’t either of those(at least not simultaneously). I think what we collectively tend to forget is that he is a competent fighter, just as everyone in 3-E is, but not only that, he’s a competent assassin, the best one the class has.

I hate when I see people writing him as weaker or worse than Karma (especially in Karmagisa fics) because if there’s anything the show should have taught us; its that they’re equal, that’s what their whole fight was about. Everyone in 3-E is the best as something, they are a Jack of All Trades, but they are also a master of one or two of them, Nagisa is the best at kissing and killing, and if I see someone make him out to be as unable to beat Karma in an Assasination training exercise of wtv I will start throwing hands.

MY CHILD IS NOT INCOMPETENT.

Let’s also not forget that he’s not an idiot and neither is a bad analysis, that’s kinda his whole shtick, being able to analyse and then build a solid and good plan off of his observations.

I would also like to point out that he’s a teenager who was able to creep up to a trained assassin, touch her, leave, and go unnoticed, and mind you, NO ONE else in 3-E is able to do that or get close to doing that.

Nagisa is sneaky, observant, smart, adaptive, and strong.

I should also probably mention that he canonically can match Karmas bloodlust, which was implied to be the strongest in the class, but something he can do which Karmas can’t; is control that bloodlust and hide it, which gives him another point of advantage as an assassin.

Not to mention, during both fights with Takaoka, he has surprised his mentors with how adaptive and capable he was, he took down a military officer with years of experience behind his back twice, once without having the element of surprise on his side, he did that with pure skill and talent, using a move that he wasn’t able to practice before using and he pulled it off effortlessly. Nagisa is a freaking killing machine, and he was the most capable in his class when the talk got to killing, he could have become the third Reaper if that’s what he wanted to do with his life, and that’s a career choice that was presented to him by his teachers, something that didn’t happen to other kids in 3-E.

I think we keep on forgetting that he is a traumatised teenager with the potential to become a killing machine who kicks ass on the daily, he isn’t a femboy or a damsel in distress, he is more than a love interest or a pretty face.

-IF you want to write a clone baby fic include how problematic and horrible something like that would be,make sure to give kon his complex reaction and Tim work on himself

-Tim can feel bad for loosing the team leader position ,but he had to understand THAT HE RIGHTFULLY LOST IT.HE LEFT,no one forced him to,and they had every single reason not to trust him at this point

-the team,especially kon,SHOULD BE MAD AT TIM FOR LYING ABOUT HIS NAME BEING ALIVN.it was supposed to show he trusted them,but he lied to their faces

-DO NOT make Tim a custom in every single situation ,because he’s not.in many,he was the one fully in the wrong and trying to force him to look like the victim in that situation is showing that you don’t really care for his character

-do not,and that should be common sense,make him trans just to fetishize it and compare him to a woman every second ( “his feminine eyes,he was as pretty as a woman,his small womanly waist-“ stfu)

You can like Tim and write Tim whump while acknowledging that he’s not the best person.

yes, i understand that when it comes to fundamental character traits/actions, mischaracterisation can be noticeable and annoying.

but when it comes to how characters act within the ship: at the end of the day the ship isn’t canon. the whole point of fanfiction is that this is someone’s interpretation of what the character would be like if the relationship was explored.

what is it about a character’s behaviour in canon that means that the ship isn’t together? how do you get a technically straight character to become gay/realistically realise they are? how do you get two enemies to fall in love?

in fact, you have to sort of think to yourself ‘what do i have to change about their character for this to work?’

commonly, mild mischaracterisation is necessary to make fanfiction work — not even to make it realistic, just to get it make sense!

the whole thing with fanfiction is that it is based in inference and personal perception of the character: yes, character A probably wouldn’t react like that to character B doing *blank*, but since the situation hasn’t occurred in canon, how can we know that for sure?

okay, okay: context from their previous canonic reactions to similar events suggests they would react differently. but until these specific circumstances arise in canon, there is no way to know fully know how they would act.

yes, mischaracterisation is annoying. it’s also almost completely unavoidable (we’re human! and everyone interprets everything slightly differently) and an insight into someone else’s perception of a piece of media you enjoy. that’s cool! explore that! discuss it! why do they view character A’s moral standpoint that way? how would character B overcome their internal conflict based on your view of A and B’s dynamic?

how can you build off canon to create cool headcannons and analysis, instead of sticking to it rigidly?

mischaracterisation can be helpful, intriguing and stimulating for different debates and discussions!

Ep: Nagi and the latest chapters of blue lock have shown us that reo means the world to nagi and that is something nagi is very much willing to express, as shown with how he so easily tells reo he's scared of losing him. Nagi is an incredibly honest person and very obviously doesn't care about social standards or norms. He literally would have no reason to ever want to hide a romantic relationship or go against his feelings and refuse a romantic relationship with reo. Him acting in that way or even thinking in that way doesn't make sense, and I would say it isn't even plausible.

But you know who does have a reason to hide a relationship like that? Reo.

Reo is literally the heir to the richest family in all of Japan. He has the eyes of media outlets and the public at all times. And yes, he clearly has a want to rebel and make a name for himself outside of his family - hence the reason why he even started playing soccer - but he also still shows some attachment to that life and that future. Reo's plan wasn't to become a professional soccer player. It was to win the World Cup. In the end, he still plans to inherit Mikage Corp. His connection to a life like that is also shown a bit more when you acknowledge that his favourite historical figure is canonically Elon Musk.

This adds stress to entering a relationship - especially a public relationship - with Nagi, who is another man. Not only because it would be seen as a huge scandal, and he would most definitely be criticised for it by media outlets and the public eye, but also because as the only heir of Mikage Corp., its seen as his job to continue the bloodline and have children to pass the corporation onto like how his father might eventually do to him.

He has so much depth to his character, but some people tend to overlook that and only focus on the part of his character that wants dazais validation. The mischaracterisation I see is genuinely diabolical bc wdym u think akutagawa is a simp for dazai with no autonomy 🫩🫩. Yes, he does want validation, but that does not mean he loves him like ughhh 😔 You gotta understand that akutagawa met dazai at a young age and kids are very impressionable so obviously, dazai his mentor and the one who saved him from the slums, is going to have a big impact on his life hello??? There are so many other aspects of his character, like his lung disease and his time in the slums but a few select people just ignore that entirely.

Okayyy another thing is when ppl make him go all soft around atsushi js bc they ship sskk??? The mischaracterisation is crazy bc no, he probs wouldn't call atsushi sushi or some shi like that. I like sskk but can we stop PLEASE 🙏. They have a great dynamic and stuff but I do not like this fanon version of them, same goes for skk but that's another topic.

HOLY MISCHARACTERISATION

I’ve been watching a shitton of quinnamon videos and i specifically have been enjoying his vod’s of him and his friends reading creepy pasta, IT WAS HILARIOUS i need more vods like that, i my self have NEVER been into creepy pasta actually besides briefly being terrified of slenderman and slenderina but that was about it

It’s like, why did you even choose to write about this character anyways, if you feel some part of their character should be changed? And I don’t mean that it’s just some small thing where the character is canonically a very tidy person but in the fic they misplace absolutely everything, no, it’s like when the character is canonically an asshole but the fic turns them into the cutest, softest little sweetie pie ever (I’m looking at you, Romano), or when the character is canonically an uptight yet sarcastic and loud-spoken character, but people tone them down into some stoic, reserved malewife (I’m looking at you, Austria).
