When overtaken by stressful thoughts: STOP... Stop what you are doing, try to gently practice the pause (if possible). Take a deep breath. Observe your thoughts and emotions without judgment). Process your thoughts and emotions, at least try to get your thoughts out of your head and onto paper, journal about them, inquire about them, what are they trying to tell you? what do you need in that moment, know that it’s all okay to feel like that, we all do. (if you have no time for doing that, gently write down your stressful story, get it out of your head, and know that you will process it at a later time. At least you caught it on paper and you will gently process it and give it love and attention later. Then go about your day. Nothing is more important than that pause.
Life is easier when you know what you want-but most people don’t take the time to figure out what they want. It’s not that we are completely lost, but our efforts are often slightly misdirected. People will work for years and ultimately achieve a lifestyle that is not quite what they were hoping for- often, simply, because they never clearly defined what they wanted. An hour of thinking can save you a decade of work.
“But in that one short meeting I’d learned that meditation, within a mindful context, was not about stopping thoughts or controlling the mind. It was a process of giving up control, of stepping back, learning how to focus attention in a passive way, while simply resting the mind in its own natural awareness.”
~ Andy Puddicombe in A Headspace Guide to Mindfulness and Meditation

Life doesn't come with a "100% satisfaction guaranteed" promise. It's up to you to create a life that's pleasant and enjoyable. No one will or can do it for you.
The contrasting tendency in mindfulness to bracket context not only cramps self-understanding. It also renders our mental challenges dangerously apolitical. In spite of a growing literature probing the root causes of mental-health issues, policymakers tend to rely on low-cost, supposedly all-encompassing solutions for a broad base of clients. The focus tends to be solely on the contents of an individual’s mind and the alleviation of their distress, rather than on interrogating the deeper socioeconomic and political conditions that give rise to the distress in the first place.
Sahanika Ratnayake at Aeon. The problem of mindfulness
Mindfulness promotes itself as value-neutral but it is loaded with (troubling) assumptions about the self and the cosmos
