Maggie is warm and comfortable and not going to sleep anytime soon. She just enjoys the warmth of Alex against her back, the weight of Alex's arm over her waist, the soft puff of Alex's breaths on her neck.
Nightmares might be keeping her from sleep, but just being in bed with Alex is a dream.
A soft knock sounds from the door before it slowly pushes open.
"Mommy?"
Maggie sighs. Of course.
Alex lets out a soft moan, her fingers flexing against Maggie's stomach.
She needs to sleep after the shift she just had.
Maggie carefully slips out of Alex's arms and tiptoes across the room to kneel in front of Maya.
"What's wrong, mijita?" she asks.
Maya rubs her eyes. Her other hand is clutching her blanket, the pattern faded from the years.
"Can't sleep, Mag," she mumbles. "Monsters."
"Monsters?"
Maya nods.
"In my closet and under my bed."
Maggie holds back a sigh. The monsters are somewhere different every time Maya comes crying about them.
Maggie debates her options.
Let Maya get in bed with them. The fastest option, but very likely to wake Alex.
Send her back alone. Very mean and Maggie would never, no matter how tempting it is at times.
"Well, how about I come to your room and check for these monsters?"
Maya glances past her, to Alex, then looks back and nods.
"Okay."
Maggie scoops Maya up into her arms and carries her back to her room. She sets Maya on her bed, making sure her feet aren't hanging off, and turns the lamp on.
"You said in the closet and under the bed?"
Maya nods, hugging her blanket.
"Do you want to check with me?"
Maya shakes her head. She clutches her blanket to her chest and watches Maggie with wide eyes.
Well, there goes the idea of Maya seeing there's nothing there.
"Okay." Maggie kneels, then bends even further to look under the bed. "There's nothing here."
"The closet."
Maggie looks up.
Maya is pointing at the closet, eyes still wide.
Fuck, kids are creepy some times.
Fuck, Maggie wishes she was still in bed with Alex.
"Alright, the closet."
Maggie stands. She walks to the closet and opens it.
A part of her is expecting to find somebody there, but it's empty.
She moves things around, making sure Maya knows she's really looking, then steps out and closes the door.
"Nothing in the closet."
"You scared them away," Maya says. Her voice is strained, terrified. "And they'll come back when you're gone."
Maggie takes a deep breath. She walks back to the bed, where she sits and happily lets Maya climb into her lap. She holds the girl tight and rocks her slightly.
"What if I tell you some secrets on how to keep monsters away?"
"Secrets?"
"Yup." Maggie presses a kiss to the side of Maya's head. "To be honest, I don't know if monsters exist, cause I've never seen one."
Not any that look like the ones in movies or a child's imagination, anyway. She's seen her fair share of human monsters.
"But," she continues, "I've also never seen a moose and I know they exist, so who really knows about monsters."
Maya cuddles closer.
"Either way, I know I'm safe from them because of two things I know about them."
"What things?"
"First, monsters can't move blankets."
"They can't?"
"Nope. So long as you're under a blanket or a comforter or even a sheet, they can't get you. And the bigger and warmer it is, the less they can move it."
"That's good."
"It is."
"What's the second thing?"
"Remember when we went to the zoo and learned that snakes and lizards are cold blooded?"
"Yeah, if they get too cold they can't move."
"Exactly?"
"Are monsters cold blooded?"
"Monsters are the opposite. Snakes are cold blooded. People and other mammals are warm blooded. Monsters are hot blooded."
"Hot blooded?"
"Yup. If it gets too hot, they get really, really, really slow. In the summer, a monster could try to get you from under the bed, and not even reach you before the sun comes back out, that's how slow they are."
"So, monsters can't get me?"
"Nope. I've followed these rules my entire life and never even seen one monster, so I can only assume that as long as you stay under the covers, and it isn't super super cold in your room, you'll never see one either."
Maya nods. "Okay."
"Do you want to try and sleep?"
Maya doesn't respond for a few moments before nodding her head.
"Do you want me to stay until you do?"
Maya nods again.
"Okay."
Maggie turns the lamp off, leaving them with just the stars projected on the ceiling by the nightlight, then lays Maya down. She tucks her in, making sure the blanket covers everything but her head before lying down next to her.
Maya lifts up the edge of the blanket.
"You need to be safe, too."
Maggie smiles. Okay, maybe it was worth coming to check for monsters.
She slides under the blanket and pulls Maya into her arms so they fit more comfortably on the bed. Maya falls asleep quickly, and it isn’t long after that Maggie begins to drift off.
Briefly, before she's fully out, a kiss is pressed to her temple and Alex's voice floats into her dreams.

(Maya inspired by @winterskywrites and @fairyroses‘s takes on XTC/Kara and Brainy’s kid from Kingdom Come)
~
She appears in their living room.
Astra sees her first, and (for once) stays completely silent, making sure she can’t be seen, as the other girl scans the room, a near-transparent green shield held up in front of her. Like she’s expecting someone to jump out and attack her, which of course Astra is not going to do.
Because, most notably, this girl looks almost exactly like her.
Or like a combination of her and Alexa- she wears a uniform with a pink and white S-shield on it, and the majority of the uniform is purple, with pink and white boots and what looks like a white partial skirt over purple leggings. She wears pink fingerless gloves, too, and a Legion ring. Her hair is blonde, and her skin is green, and Astra can’t stop staring.
Neither can Alexa, for that matter, when she comes downstairs- which is how she’s discovered too.
“Hello?” Alexa says. “What are you doing here?”
“You must be Alexa.” She answers, smiling. “Mom’s told me all about you.”
And at that, Astra has to barge in. She’s curious! She can’t help herself, and nobody would ask her to stop, at least for this.
“Who’s your mom?”
“Oh, right, she never mentioned it.” The other girl says. “Sorry- you’ve met your dad’s doppelganger, right? Director Querl?”
“Yeah…” Astra says. “And?”
“Well, my name’s Maya. I’m her daughter- with Supergirl. We call her Superwoman now, but… that’s how most people know her, and…”
“Oh.” Is all Alexa can say.
“Don’t say ‘oh’ like that makes sense!” Astra answers. “How are you here?”
“You know how difficult travel to alternate dimensions can be.” Maya tells them both. “And combined with time travel… let’s say I’ve spent a lot of time between worlds. Even for me, it wasn’t the easiest thing, but now I’m here, and I figured I’d meet the alternate versions of my parents- and, I guess, the people who would be my sisters.”
Astra smiles, and yells for her parents, while Alexa tries to look apologetic.
“How’s my big one-year-old?” Kara asks Maya as she picks her up out of her crib on the morning of her first birthday. She gives her a big kiss and smiles as Maya giggles.
“Mama!” she cries, grabbing for Kara’s hair. “Mama, birthday!”
“It is your birthday!” Kara agrees. “What a smart little girl.”
I am sorry I don't have a better prompt for you, but I loved your fic about Maya and Alex and Maggie. I wonder if you might consider giving us a little Halloween update on it. I would love to know how Alex is doing with her addiction, are they liking National City, where is Alex going to go with her career?
oh, this is a wonderful prompt

Maggie opened the second bag of candy and tipped it into the large bowl, making sure it covered the mechanical hand inside that would eventually pop up and scare some kid.
The ‘Scare Free’ bowl was already outside and labeled so parents could guide younger kids to it.
Hand properly covered, she opened the door and set the bowl on the porch.
When she stepped back inside, Maya was bouncing down the stairs.
Her astronaut costume reflected in the light. She held her hands up in claws and roared through her T-Rex mask.
Maggie faked fearful surprise and turned to Alex as she walked out of her office.
"Be careful, there's a dino-naut in the house."
Maya turned and roared at her mother.
Alex just raised an eyebrow. "It's a good thing I know how to handle dino-nauts, then, isn't it?"
She swooped Maya up into her arms for a few moments before setting her down.
Maggie knew just how much Alex was dreading the day she couldn't even lift Maya that much, but how glad she still could for the time.
"Are you ready to go?" Alex asked.
"Duh."
Maggie rolled her eyes. Since turning eight, Maya's attitude had gotten stronger.
She was going to be a terror as a pre-teen.
Alex tapped on the nose of the T-Rex mask.
"Be good, don't run off like you did last year."
"I won't. I promise."
"Won't be good, or won't run off?"
"Won't run off."
Alex laughed. "Good. Now…" she pulled her phone out. "I need some pictures before you go."
Maya turned and ran to Maggie. She grabbed Maggie's helmet and shoved it into her hands.
Maggie put it on, the world distorting around her through the round plastic.
"Alright, my dino-naut and my astro-saur, say cheese."
Alex took a few pictures, then the family filed out of the house.
In her scrubs, Alex probably looked like everybody else dressed up for the night.
If only.
They stopped at her car. Maggie pulled her helmet off.
Alex said goodnight to Maya, then sent her towards the neighbors before turning to Maggie.
"I'll see you in the morning," Alex said before softly kissing her. "Have fun tonight."
"You, too."
"We should. The kids are all dressing up and getting treats, and we're gunna get the older ones together for a movie night."
Maggie grinned. Working with the kids really fit Alex.
"Now," Alex continued, "I need to go before I'm late and you need to go before a certain astro-saur runs off."
"Excuse you, I'm the astro-saur, Maya is a dino-naut," Maggie corrected with fake indignation. She featured down to the dinosaur onesie she was wearing. "Is that not obvious?"
"Oh, I apologize."
They both laughed, then Alex pulled Maggie in for another kiss.
"I love you."
"I love you, too."
Maggie watched Alex slowly pull out of the driveway, then inch down the road as kids rushed in every direction in search of candy.
Then Maggie pulled her helmet on and joined an impatient Maya in the neighbor's yard.
~
I don't get too much into everything you asked, so here you go.
I do think Alex slipped once on her addiction, but with alcohol, not drugs. It wasn't long after starting her fellowship, possibly after a child she worked with died. It was small, and she went right to Maggie after.
Since, Alex is doing really well in her career, and is loving her fellowship (other than when she slipped). All of them are really enjoying National City.
Maya is doing great in school. Maggie's truck is really popular.
The year before this, for their first year in NC, Maya dressed as an old school ice cream truck driver... with a dinosaur mask

All of Kara's kids(connie, astra, maya, kieran, martha, others?) meet each other in another crisis.
A quick rundown on the kids in this fic and where they’re from: there’s Maya from the #mayaverse, Kieran and Astra from the #twinsverse, Connie from the #connieverse, Martha from the #marthaverse, Casey from the #caseyverse, Lissa from the #kiraverse, Carrie Kelley from this fic, Kal-El (yes, that Kal-El) from these two fics, Russell from this fic, Mike from these two fics (he wasn’t named in either, but that was the name I intended to give him), and Lily from this fic.
“Okay!” Maya yells. She has to bellow to be heard over the commotion. “Everyone, listen up! We’re going to go around and all share our names, our parents, and a little about ourselves. I’ll start. I’m Maya, my parents are Kara Zor-El and Querl Dox, and I’ve been working with my parents as a superhero on and off since I was sixteen.” She turns to the two kids next to her - a set of twins, she thinks - and nods. “You next.”
“I’m Kieran, this is Astra,” the boy says. “Our parents are Kara Danvers and Lena Luthor. I work with my mom as a superhero.”
“And I’m a psychologist,” Astra adds. “Or, that’s what I’m majoring in, at least.”
“Nice to meet you, Kieran and Astra,” Maya says. She points to the girl next to them. “Your turn.”
“Hi,” the girl says with a little wave. “I’m Connie, my parents are also Kara Danvers and Lena Luthor, and I’m actually a clone created from their mixed DNA, so I have limited Kryptonian powers.”
“Connie, you said your name was?” another girl asks, a redhead with glasses. “That’s weird, there’s a Connor in my universe who’s a half-Kryptonian clone of Superman.” Maya gives her a look, and the girl quickly adds, “I’m Carrie, my parents are technically a couple of neglectful assholes but I’ve basically been adopted by Kara Danvers and Kate Kane by this point, and I’m working with Kate as her sidekick Robin.”
“I’m sort of sensing a theme here,” Maya says. “Raise your hand if Kara Danvers-slash-Zor-El is your mother.”
Every hand goes up, although one of them is a little tentative. “I mean,” that boy says, “she’s technically my cousin, but she’s raised me since I was a baby, so I guess she sort of counts as my mom.”
“She’s your cousin?” Maya asks. She frowns a little. “Is your name Clark, by any chance?”
“What?” The boy looks confused. “No, it’s Kal-El.”
“Why do you keep calling me Clark?” Kal-El asks. “And why would you call me uncle? We’re basically the same age.”
“Well, in my universe, and I assume in Kieran and Astra’s as well, you’re older than Kara, and you use the human alias Clark Kent,” Maya explains.
“Ieiu’s pod must not have gotten trapped in the Phantom Zone in his universe,” Astra murmurs.
Kal-El frowns. “No, my pod was trapped in the Phantom Zone. I was there for thirteen years before I landed on Earth.”
Maya nods. “That explains a lot.”
“So are you still called Superman in your universe?” another one of the boys asked. At Maya’s look, he adds, “I’m Russell, my parents are Kara Danvers and William Dey, and I’m a photojournalist-in-training.”
“Right now, I’m going by Superboy,” Kal-El replies. “Maybe I’ll switch to Superman when I get older. I like the sound of it, actually.”
“Who still needs to introduce themselves?” Maya asks, trying to drag the conversation back on track. She points to four girls and a boy. “You five are the only ones left, right? Which one of you wants to go first?”
“I’ll go,” one of the girls says. She’s got the slightest hint of a Russian accent. “My name is Lissa, my mothers are Kara Zor-El and Kira Volkova, and they adopted me when I was little from an orphanage on Argo.”
“Kira Volkova?” Russell repeats. He looks around at the others. “Am I the only one who doesn’t know who that is?”
“Kira is Kara’s clone,” Lissa explains. “She was used as a weapon by the Kaznians first, and then she was rescued by the DEO. Kira Volkova is the name she chose.”
“Wait, in your universe, Mom is dating her own clone?” Connie asks. She makes a face. “That’s weird.”
“It’s not weird,” Lissa retorts, her accent strengthening. Her eyes start to glow a little bit too, which apparently means she’s got all the same powers as any other Kryptonian, and also means Connie should duck. “My mothers love each other.”
“Whoa, okay, no fighting,” Maya cuts in. “Connie, don’t call anyone else’s parents weird. Lissa, try not to attack anyone with your heat vision.”
Both girls back down, although Lissa doesn’t look particularly pleased about it. Maya makes a mental note to keep an eye on her and turns to the last four.
“You,” she says, pointing to one of the girls. “Your turn.”
“I’m Martha,” the girl says. “My parents are Kara Danvers and Kate Kane, and right now I’m working with Ima to help with her real estate business.”
“Ima?” Kieran asks.
“It’s Hebrew for Mom. It’s what I call Kate.”
“Cool, got it.”
Maya gestures at the next girl, trying to keep things moving. “Your turn.”
“I’m Lily,” the girl says. “And my parents… Okay, it’s a little complicated. My biological parents are Kara Zor-El and Querl Dox, but then Dad moved back to the thirty-first century and Mom stayed in the twenty-first, so they broke up and split custody of me, and now Dad is dating Lyle and Mom is dating Kate, so I guess they’re sort of my step-parents. And, like I said, I spend half my time in the thirty-first century with Dad, and the other half in the twenty-first century with Mom.”
“How do you not break the timeline?” Astra asks.
Lily shrugs. “I’m really, really careful.”
“Is it my turn now?” the final girl asks. “I’m Casey, Kara is my adoptive mom, and I’m working as her sidekick.” She turns to the boy. “Your turn, I think.”
“Cool,” the boy says, nodding. “I’m Mike, my parents are Kara Zor-El and Mon-El, and I have no idea what I want to do with my life.”
“Mood,” Carrie mutters.
“Is that everyone?” Maya asks, scanning the crowd and making sure to commit everyone’s names to memory.
“I think so,” Mike says. “Pretty sure I was the last one, right?”
“Right,” Casey agrees. “So now what?”
All eyes turn to Maya, which she should have expected, given that she’s the oldest and she’s somewhat set herself up in a leadership position. “Well…” she begins, not quite sure where to go from there.
“Now,” says a deep voice, “you are going to save the world.”
Everyone turns towards the voice, which is apparently coming from the tall, dark-skinned man in armor standing behind them. Maya looks him over and sighs.
“The Monitor, I assume?”
The man inclines his head. “The very same.”
“Oh, great,” Kieran groans. “Ieiu has told me about this guy.”
Maya steps forward, and all eyes fall on her again. She walks up to the Monitor until she’s between him and the others. With a small army of alternate universe half-siblings (and full-sibling, in Lily’s case) at her back, she’s pretty sure she can handle whatever the Monitor decides to throw at her.
“Just tell us where to go,” she says. “We’re ready.”
The Monitor smiles, just slightly. “Very well. Come with me, all of you. It’s time to save the world.”
Please can you write a second part for the au where maya is already born in the crisis and Kara presents her to Kate.
This is the sequel to this.
“Hey, Kara?” Kate asks, knocking on the door of Kara’s temporary room in the Waverider. “You in there?”
“Yeah, I’m here!” Kara calls back. “You can come in if you want.”
Kate shrugs and opens the door, heading into Kara’s room. When she sees the video screen showing a man and child, though, she almost backs right out.
“I, uh, didn’t mean to interrupt.”
“You didn’t,” Kara replies. “I need to go anyway.” She turns to the screen. “This is Kate, guys, and Kate” - she turns back to her - “this is my husband Brainy and our daughter Maya.”
“Oh!” Kate looks at the screen, wide-eyed. “I didn’t know you were married. Or had a kid.”
Kara shrugs. “I don’t talk about it much as Supergirl. It’s safer that way. But I can trust you.”
“Is Kate one of your superhero friends, Mommy?” Maya asks.
“Yeah,” Kate replies, figuring Maya must know not to reveal secret identities. “I’m a superhero too, but I’m from a different Earth.”
“Are you from the Earth we’re on now?” Maya asks eagerly.
Kara winces a little, but her smile stays on as she says, “Yes, Kate is from that Earth. What do you think of it?”
“It’s nice!” Maya says. “Daddy and I found a good pizza place.”
“Good,” Kara says, laughing a little. “Maya, sweetie, I’ve got to go, but I’ll talk to you later. Be good for your daddy, okay?”
“I will!” Maya promises.
Kara and her husband share a long look that Kate is pretty sure basically comprises a whole conversation, then Kara turns off the video call. She takes a moment to turn around, but when she does, she’s smiling an almost effortless-looking smile.
“You should meet Maya in person, after all of this,” she says. “I think you two would get along.”
“I’ll give a try, but I’m not the best with kids,” Kate replies. “She’s cute, though.”
Kara’s smile wavers a little. “She is.”
“You’ll go back to her,” Kate promises. “Everything will be okay.”
“It will be,” Kara agrees, nodding. “I know.”
“Now, I was actually supposed to get you for a meeting,” Kate admits, “so...”
Kara’s smile looks a little more real now, which Kate is glad to see. “Well, then, you should lead the way.”
“Brainy,” Kara asks when the skies turn red, “where’s Maya?”
“At daycare,” Brainy says, his voice tight. “I’ll send someone to pick her up right now.”
Kara nods. It aches at her that she can’t pick Maya up herself, and she’s sure Brainy feels the same, but they both have too much to do. Maya will always be a priority, but they both know that, as much as they both want to, they can’t put one person above the whole world, even if that one person is their daughter.
(That’s a lot easier in theory than in practice.)
Kara keeps a line open to Brainy and to the DEO while she goes off with the other heroes to try to stop the anti-matter wave. Agent Vasquez was the one who got Maya from daycare, and she passes her off to J’onn once J’onn takes off with the Legion ship. Maya loves the Legion ship, Kara knows, and she also knows that J’onn will make sure that Maya is safe and part of the evacuation. She knows that Maya will end up being okay.
That doesn’t make it any easier to be apart from her as their world literally comes to an end.
After Oliver dies, Kara ducks out of the room and pulls out her phone. Her comms aren’t working, probably because they’re on a new Earth, but hopefully her phone will. She dials a number she knows by heart, and she hopes against hope that she’ll get an answer.
“Kara?” Brainy’s voice asks, and Kara’s knees almost go weak at the sound. “Is that you? Are you alright?”
“I’m fine,” Kara says, feeling close to tears. “I’m fine. Is Maya-”
“She’s here with me,” Brainy replies. “Maya, say hello to your mother.”
“Hi, Mommy,” Maya says obediently. Kara presses her hand against her mouth to keep in a sob.
“Hey, baby girl,” she says when she thinks she can speak again. “You stick with Daddy for right now, okay? He’ll keep you safe. I’ll visit you as soon as I can, okay? I’ve got some stuff to do right now, but know that I’m thinking about you, okay?”
“Okay,” Maya agrees placidly.
“We’ll wait for you,” Brainy adds. “Save the world, Supergirl. We’ll be here.”
Kara smiles, although it’s a little wobbly. “As long as I know that, I can do anything.”
