What are your thoughts on home owners associations?
The basic idea may seem good enough on the surface, an org for local people to organize and coordinate stuff to do with their homes, but under the surface lies a huge bevy of problems.
HOAs often give more power to land owners proportional to their property ownership within the bounds of the HOA's jurisdiction, which is inherently unbalanced, and results in the wealthy, as well as real estate companies, to have an outsized influence in decisions; while at the same time completely disenfranchising those who aren't direct home owners. Need I remind you that the majority of people do not own homes, and instead live in family or loved ones' homes or they rent, without even mentioning those without a roof over their heads at all, but who nonetheless are a part of the community and whose voices should be heard.
Not to mention the bent the most if not all HOAs have towards conformity, which limits free speech. Example: Some HOAs do not allow gay flags to be displayed. If this kind of thing was just the opinion of some local chucklefuck chuds with no power to enforce those opinions, that'd be annoying, but ultimately a nonissue; but oftentime HOAs are either given express legal permission to enforce their rules, or enact pressure on residents anyway, even if they don't "have "technically" have that authority. This can result in threats, defacement of noncompliant properties, etc.
HOAs are essentially a form of governance. I often say to people that I talk to about this that politics is the field of policy, and policy is what we do, what we don't do, and what is allowed. Which is exactly what HOAs try to enforce. Even if they aren't incorporated into the legal framework of the state directly, they act as an ersatz state to some extent.

what does jmc mean :o
Oh! Glad you asked!
"JMC" is just shorthand that I use in tagging posts. It stands for Just My Content. If you go to my blog and click/search the tag, you see posts where I am directly saying or doing something, whereas reblogs without commentary (as they are not tagged jmc) will not appear.
The #jmc tag therefore includes all posts where I respond to asks, reblogs of questions I asked where someone else answered, my art, my shitposts, etc. all in one convenient place.
Basically it's a "see Zora's blog without the endless stream of reblogs" button. So really, it's the opposite of tagging all reblogs with a specific tag. Both strategies have their utility, but I've been tagging things "jmc" for as long as I can remember, and there's something to be said for consistency.
