Despite the council's objections, Qui-Gon takes a new padawan before Feemor is a made a Knight. Left adrift, Feemor makes the trip back to his homeworld, only to stumble over a strange old lightsaber in an ancient Mandalorian keep... Tarre Vizsla has spent a long time waiting for a Jedi to take up his blade again. The Mandalorian civil war is spiraling rapidly out of control, and as a former Mand'alor, Tarre has an obligation to his people - one that Feemor is going to have to fulfill in his place.

The bartender nods, but his eyes are tracing over Jaster’s arm with a burning trepidation. “Something I should be worried about?”

With a sigh, Jaster shakes his head. “No, the person I was looking for left a few weeks back. I’m moving on as soon as I get a new lead from my contacts. Just not worth burning the fuel to get out of here when I don’t have a direction.”

The bartender nods slowly. A bit like he doesn’t believe Jaster. “Right. So… mind me asking who you’re looking for?”

“You offering a lead?” Jaster asks.

“Trying to figure out if you’re after one of ours,” the bartender says frankly. “We’ve got some shitheads ‘round here, and a few good people that are causing problems for assholes in power. If it’s one of the former, I’m happy to help.”

“And if it’s one of the latter, you’re going to let them know I’m on the trail?” Jaster asks, brow raised. “Not worried about the consequences?”

The bartender shrugs. “I figured if it was the latter… well, the dragon would get to you before you got to them.”

…the what.

“It’s a spice smuggler working out of Ciutric,” Jaster says instead of questioning that. “Some of his product, he cut it with something unreliable, and it nearly killed some merchant bigwig’s daughter. There’s a bounty out for him now. Just a standard catch-and-deliver.”

The bartender relaxes. He probably knows that Jaster could be lying, but also probably can’t help but believe him. “Sounds fine, then.”

“If you’ve got enough credits, I could do something about those shitheads you mentioned,” Jaster says. “I’ve got time.”

He has enough time to get bored. Not enough time to go home and see Jango. Is it his own fault that he’s being a bad parent? Is he a bad parent? Is he even a parent at all?

Jango keeps getting weird about it whenever someone brings up the possibility of a proper, official adoption, and Jaster doesn’t really want to press the issue if it’s a distressing one. He’s at least Jango’s mentor and guardian, though, which is kind of like being a parent, and so he should probably be around more.

Unfortunately, that clash that led Jango to him had also led to rather large casualties, and a corresponding loss in profits; until the profits are recovered, the manpower couldn’t be either.

So, they’re all running solo jobs until Jaster can get them a new contract that works for the smaller company size, and most of those jobs aren’t exactly optimal for a kid Jango’s age.

“Or the… dragon?” Jaster asks. “I’m assuming there’s some kind of overgrown lizard in the area that’s been terrorizing the livestock?”

“Kind of,” the bartender says.

“Know what kind?” Jaster prods. “Don’t suppose it’s a Zakkeg?”

That would be fun. Brag-worthy, even. Might be able to sell the hide.

“Don’t know,” the bartender says.

“Arkanian?” Jaster tries. “Hssiss? Ithorian, maybe?”

“I don’t know what half of those look like,” the bartender says drily. “It’s not Arkanian, I know that much. Smart enough for it, but I saw one in a book as a kid; this thing’s got too many legs.”

“…but it does have wings?” Jaster asks.

The bartender shrugs and nods. “Wings, four legs. Spiky.”

Huh. “That does narrow it do—”

“Excuse me!”

The bartender is called away by a new, irate patron.

Jaster wonders if there’s a bounty on the dragon. It probably won’t be huge, but it could be worth doing while he waits for his contacts to get back to him.

He takes his drink to a seat—no corners available, but a booth is alright, as far as defensibility goes—and checks out the local news.

No bounties. Not even for the lizard.

Boring. And not great for the wallet. He needs to move on as soon as he has a direction.

Maybe he should call Jango?
