I have been feeling a little stuck lately, as though I wasn’t progressing mentally or physically. I know it’s not about how far you get in the asana but it is human nature to want to feel like you are working towards something.
In the last week I made a few leaps that have taken me by surprise and left me very excited so I thought I’d share.
In the Mysore room on Thursday my padmasana suddenly felt comfortable and I was able to get my big toe much closer to my hip. I couldn’t believe the difference overnight. I was able to bind in ardha baddha padmottanasana for the first time (not easily but it was massive progress!). When I wrapped my arm around and felt my toe I almost fell over with excitement. It’s a shame that the room is so focused and quiet as I just wanted to shout out and let everyone know I had managed it!
I then spent 4 wonderful hours at Karen’s back bending workshop on Sunday. I felt a lot more open in the chest and able to breathe in a way that I haven’t managed before. It’s always been strained and uncomfortable but I was finally able to control my breath and it gave me a lot more time in the postures to let them grow.
On Monday in midday Mysore my back bends were so much bigger and then the most amazing thing happened. Emma was suddenly at my feet and after a few rocks back and forward I was standing up looking at her! I then did my first ever drop backs. I confess that it was hard to concentrate on the second one as I was freaking out with giddiness at the fact that I was doing it. I honestly thought I was a lot further away from starting drop backs so I am super excited.
Maybe I can do it after all :)
