This is - hopefully obviously - parody, but it's worth a moment.
When people insist that describing reality accurately is some kind of bigotry and that you're an istaphobe of some variety, what they're really saying is that they and their beliefs are disconnected from the real world, and they object to the imposition of reality into their fantasy world.
It's the same thing as when Xians call you "mean" or accuse you of "hating god" for pointing out the bible's complete and obvious lack of coherence with reality.
It doesn't matter if they don't like it, if it's true.
The more I delve into the world of polyamory, the more I am unfortunately exposed to toxic monogamous culture and monogamous people negatively inserting themselves into our spaces.
For example, I'll go watch a nice video on polyamory, scroll to the comments, and see the majority being very negatively judgemental, unkind, and close-minded. It's very disheartening to me.
Polyamorous people do happily exist. Polyamory is not full of cheating and drama. Polyamory is just another way to love, and that is just as valid as monogamy.
My Thoughts On: Primary, Secondary And Tertiary (Hierarchical Polyamory)
Primary, secondary, and tertiary are words used by some polyamorists to distinguish between different degrees of relationship and to describe participants in those relationships. The type of involvement described varies according to the people are normally measured by emotional involvement ( the intensity or depth of participants’ feelings for one another), logistic involvement (living and financial arrangements, shared child-rearing, etc), and ground rules within relationships (participants might agree that the maintenance of a particular relationship takes priority over others, making that relationship ‘primary’). I’m not trying to offend or upset anyone in this post, these are just my thoughts. So, I don’t really like the whole primary, secondary and tertiary thing. I don’t have a primary or a secondary. In my opinion, I think that these terms can be harmful to someone. A relationship is supposed to be loving and calling someone your secondary or tertiary doesn’t seem very loving. Being like “Okay so Partner A is my priority, not you. Understand Partner B?” seems kind of wrong to me. It might be because everyone in my relationship is equal, my boyfriend and my significant other are completely equal. I try to spend equal time with both of them and I love them both equally, I don’t have a favorite. If anyone is in a hierarchical polyam relationship and find this post offensive, I don’t mean to offend you and would like to know how the hierarchal polyamory works for you. Then again, I might just not understand the hierarchical polyamory but the thought of having one of my partners above the other seems wrong to me. Have a nice day everyone.
This is a scheduled post.
"Hierarchy is couple privilege weaponized." ~ Jamie Michael Feldman The debate around hierarchy rages on because people can. not. get. past the fundamental issue that the people who complain about hierarchy are complaining about a *power imbalance* (http://blog.franklinveaux.com/2013/03/guest-post-polyamory-and-hierarchy/) and the people who defend it are using a Motte & Bailey fallacy by talking about "priority" (https://www.morethantwo.com/blog/2016/06/can-polyamorous-hierarchies-ethical-part-1-tower-village). Hierarchy is taking an unearned, default set of privileges and using those privileges as blunt objects with which to beat new partners about the head until they cower in submission or run off, broken and bloody and once again alone. We don't usually ask for the privileges that our society or communities give us. We can't always help that we have them. But we can help what we do with them. Some of us prefer to use our privileges to help others less fortunate. Others choose to aim them at those less fortunate to keep them there.
