My parents are, and always have been, monogamous; shows I grew up with prioritized and show cased monogamy. Yet, it always looks weird to me, the idea of it always made me uneasy.

I'd be like 5 and playing with my toys and they'd have complex polycules that I would focus a lot on. We'd watch tv and when the "love triangle" never became a throuple I'd be disappointed. When I started dating in high school I would feel anxious and self-hating because the expectation was for me to BE monogamous; I've never cheated on anyone, but I'd get crushes on multiple people and feel so disgusted with myself about it.

I'm finally in a polyamorous relationship and even if its just me and my boyfriend right now, and our mutual "ex" who left the polycule but she's still part of this dynamic, the fact that its safe and okay to add any number of people to this relationship as long as everyone is comfortable and gets along is so wonderful.

This friend of mine is in a vee relationship with two guys. For better understanding, let’s call him Matthew and his partners Jonas and Tim.

Tim also is in a vee relationship—with Matthew and a woman we’ll just call Anna. Like this.

Now, Jonas and Tim are metamours. And Anna and Matthew are metamours too.

But I was wondering, is there a term for Jonas and Anna? Because Matthew and Tim are part of a big friend group, so sometimes when this friend group meets, Jonas and Anna will be there too.

If there isn’t a term, I think there should be, because Matthew and Tim are “the friend group couple”, and Jonas and Anna are both “the partner of a friend”. This “overlapping vee” makes their dynamics different, somehow. 🤔
