As you're ramping up your marathon training, @ndimerc shares her struggles with hydration and how adding some additional electrolytes helps fuel her increased training! #Repost @ndimerc (@get_repost) γ»γ»γ» When we host camps at ZAP, we have a Q&A session with the resident athletes. β’β’ One of the most popular questions we get is about hydration. These questions range from how much water to drink per day to how to motivate yourself to drink more water. There is no easy solution to either of those questions, as requirements vary from person to person. Some people need a gallon of water a day, some people need more. Some people need a timer to go off every hour to remind themselves to drink a glass of water, some people drink water religiously throughout the day. When it comes to hydration, hydrating properly is important. This includes adding electrolytes into your hydration regimen. β’β’β’ Electrolytes help muscle contraction/relaxation, maintain fluid balance, and transmitting nerve impulses. They are often lost during exercise through sweat. β’β’β’ I learned this lesson the hard way during my long run on Thursday. I had my mind set to running 18, but hit a wall at 17 and couldn't make it to that last mile. I finished the run chilly, confused, and a little discouraged. After talking to Pete and a few other runners, I realized that although my training was increasing I was keeping my electrolyte consumption the same. β’β’β’ As a solution I added two extra @genucan electrolyte packs to my routine and came back with a solid medium long yesterday. It was like magic (is that cheesy? Probably). β’β’β’ TL:DR drink your electrolytes! β’β’β’ Pictured: #generationucan electrolyte pack, @reebok water bottle, & one of my other favorite training tools the Elliptigo! (@elliptigo_usa)
