Winter the moon princess
I really love her as a character. She's my absolute favorite. She lives in a place like the lunar court where everything is an illusion. Fake. And considering how refusing to use her lunar gift effects her, she can't even trust her own mind at times. If that was me I would have anxiety attacks non stop. Yet with everything Winter is going through plus her step mother on top of that she still tries to remain kind. I can see why Jacin loves her so much. In my opinion she's a lot like her father Evret. She's incredibly kind and strong just like he was. She keeps living and finding the small joys in life just like he did despite their horrific situations. I wonder if that's another reason why Queen Levana hates her so much. Besides the jealousy of her natural beauty, Winter is a constant reminder of Evret and the guilt Levana feels. She is also a constant reminder of herself and how alike and different they are . They're both princesses, both in abuseive situations, they're both in love with a royal guard. Yet the difference are plain to see.
I love that this series is tied to fairytales.
Evret Hayle was too pure. The fact that he actually tried to be a good husband to the woman who raped him and forced him into marriage⊠Levana didnât deserve him. He deserved better.

James Evret Fitzgerald
Evret was the first child of eight born to Robert and Mary Fitzgerald (nee Cunningham) on 25 Nov 1895 on farm on RR#3, Thorndale, near London, Ontario. This brown â eyed, brown haired, handsome, humble young man was loved by his seven brothers and sisters, and dearly missed on the farm by his parents, and was in his graduating year at the school of Veterinary Science at the Ontario Agriculture College, Guelph, Ontario, Canada, when on 15 March 1915 he enlistend in the 38th Battalion. He later transferred tot he 1st Guelph University Coy, PPCLI, tob e with his SW Ontario schoolmates. Standing 5 feet 11 inches, he qualified tob e in the Grenadier Coy, PPLCI. Evret was shot in the head by a sniper on 8 May 1916 while gallantly performing his duty as a grenadier iin the forward positions. He lay unconscious for three days succumbing to his wounds on May 1916, just a few weeks before the German bombardment of the Canadian trenches began the battle of Santuary Wood on 2 June 1916. Sadly, his grave is believed to have suffered damage in the opening minutes of thes battle, and thus the inscription above was carved. He was always talked about lovingly by his sisters and brothers, visited in 1919 by his sister, Jenny, then a young teacher from St. Maryâs, and continues the be remembered by all his family, which are many, and now reside=ing alla cross Canada. Fairest review.
This book was alright. I didnât love or hate it, it was kinda meh for me. I mean, I think it was well written, but I, personally, wasnât that interested in it.Â
This is a novella from the Cinder series that follow Levanaâs backstory. We learn how she ended up with her first husband, Evret and how she came to be Winters step mother. We go in depth with the story of how she got her burn scars, and learn about her evil sister in the process. We also see the process that happened in her mind as she decided and attempted to take Cinderâs life.
I liked getting to know Levana better. I now understand her tragic past and seen first hand all the hurt sheâs been through...but, that still doesnât make up for the evil she does and my view of her ultimately stays the same.
I dislike how it seems like the story wants us to pity and start to like Levana. She is still a monster who has done terrible things and makes evil decisions on her own will.Â
This book did not have any chapters, so the pace was just pieces of her backstory with time between.
I still dislike Levana, sheâs evil and selfish. Yes, I do understand that she was tortured emotionally and physically scarred, but she still made the decisions and I stand firm in my dislike of her. She does evil things even when she isnât trying.Â
I honestly didn't have any characters I particularly liked.
Thanks for reading! I am currently reading Beautiful Creatures. If you have any book suggestions, I would love to hear them!Â
Twelve: The Family Nobody Wants
A Month Of Kaider Just some fairly long daily drabbles for the life of AU Cinder and Kai⊠A Kaider tale. Enjoy!
Cinder drums her practically non-existent nails on the bus window.
Unlike most days, she doesnât see Kai walking back because heâs had to stay behind and help the girl who wants to enroll with them.
Without even knowing her name, Cinder despises her with a burning passion. But she canât exactly explain that to the Principal, and she canât stop Kai from doing his prefect responsibilities.
âAre you ready to tell them now?â Winter whispers, pulling her from her thoughts.
Cinder nods, having talked to both Kai and Winter about this. âYeah.â
Winter smiles. âGood. I knew you were brave enough to do it.â
The two of them travel in silence until they get home, then Winter links her arm through Cinderâs and the two of them walk inside, ready to unveil their secret.
Cinder stops in her tracks when she sees both Evret and Solstice waiting for them in the living room, solemn looks on their faces.
At the same time, Winter freezes, her elegant composure melting as she sees the look on her parentsâ faces.
âWe have something important to discuss with you,â Evret tells them.
âWhatâs happened?â Winter asks, Cinder unable to speak because of the fear burning inside her heart.
âItâs about Cinder.â Solstice gestures for them to sit down.
âMum? Dad? What is it?â
Solstice sighs. âBefore Cha- Cinderâs parents passed away, they signed some documents.â
âAbout what?â Cinder asks quietly.
âAbout who would look after you if they were ever no longer able to,â Solstice replies.
Cinderâs face pales, but Winter frowns. âWhat are you saying?â
âCinderâs adoptive parents have been in contact,â Evret says.
Winter shuts her eyes, gasping, and looks for Cinderâs hand to clasp.
âAnd they want me to-â Cinder stops, trying to breathe.
âTheyâve requested that you go live with them,â Solstice says, her voice cracking.
Cinderâs knees buckle and she stumbles, falling onto Winter, who guides them both to the sofa.
âHow can you just let this happen? Weâre family!â Winter shakes her head angrily.
âThereâs nothing we can do. Theyâre not fostering her, theyâve got adoption papers and that overrides our authority.â Evret explains. âAnd, as Iâm sure Cinder knows, they are technically related to her already.â
Cinder shakes her head, groaning.
âAlready related?â Winter asks.
âCinder has a step-mother and twostep-sisters,â Solstice says, confirming Cinderâs thoughts.
âYouâre not serious?â Winter fumes.
âIâm afraid we are,â Solstice intones. âYou have about a week left with us.â
âNo,â Cinder mutters, getting up and ignoring their worried looks.
She runs.
She runs out of the door, she runs down the street, she runs through the park, she runs past the strangers giving her odd looks, she runs until her lungs ache and then she runs some more.
She ends up crashing near the forest, sliding down under a tree and bringing her knees up to her chest, hiding her head in her arms.
Her heavy breathing fades into huge gulps that lead to panicked gasps.
She canât see the trees, she doesnât know where the sky is and she canât tell what time it is, the birds too loud, the ground too hard, the smell of wild flowers too strong.
She canât breathe.
Just when she thinks her lungs are going to collapse, someone kneels beside her.
They kneel to one side of her, pacing two of her fingers on their wrist so she can feel their pulse. Their other arm wraps itself around her shoulders, pulling her close and providing warmth.
Just by the warmth and solidarity of their embrace, she can tell who it is. Even before that, she could recognise their soft, familiar hands.
Of course it would be him.
Who else would leave everything to find her? Who else would risk getting lost to get to her? Who else would give up their time to stay with her?
âCome on, Cinder, breathe with me, match my pulse, youâre okay, Iâm hereâŠâ
The person incessantly murmurs the words, not stopping until she can breathe in time with him.
âKaiâŠâ she breathes, going limp against him.
He kisses her forehead. âItâs okay, just breathe with me.â
Cinder knows that sheâs shaking but she canât feel anything except the hum of Kaiâs voice telling her that everything will be okay.
It takes her a good half hour to calm down, at which point she looks up at Kai.
Heâs smiling at her, his copper eyes shining with concern and reassurance.
âTh- they s- said that⊠said that I- I have t- to⊠to g- go live w- with th- themâŠâ Cinder stops, flinching at the sound of her own voice.
Kai doesnât let go of her, running his hands through her hair slowly, soothingly. âI know.â
Cinder nods, immensely thankful that she doesnât have to explain. Sheâs never felt so lost, so unable to function, that she canât even form a single sentence.
Kai laced their fingers together. âHey, Iâm here for you, youâll be okay.â
Cinder shakes her head. âI- Iâve met⊠m- met them o- once b- before a- and theyâre⊠theyâre not g- good.â
Kaiâs hand stills for a second before carrying on. âWhat do you mean?â
Cinder shakes her head, curling up into Kai as much as possible. âEv- Evret and S- Solstice d- donât kn- knowâŠâ
Kai kisses her hair softly. âItâs okay, I understand.â
âN- no you, you d- donâtâŠâ Cinder gasps. âY- you have a⊠a perfect l- lifeâŠâ
Kai flinches so hard that a heavy guilt settles in Cinderâs stomach despite how upset she is.
He swallows. âRight. A perfect life,â he echoes, his voice surprisingly flat.
âKai?â Cinder asks, getting no reply for a good five minutes.
âSorry. How about we get you back home?â Kai suggests gently. âYouâll probably catch a cold if you remain here.â
Cinder nods, letting Kai pull her up. The two of them walk all the way back, Cinder leaning on Kai right up until he knocks on her door.
Winterâs the one who throws the door open, visibly sagging with relief as she catches sight of Cinder, soon joined by Evret and Solstice, who share the same look.
Cinder smiles as best as she can, which is, admittedly, terrible.
âThank you, Kai.â Evret claps a hand on Kaiâs shoulder, nodding to him.
Kai smiles. âItâs no trouble.â
Winter sends Kai a questioning glance but he shakes his head, clearing answering a question Cinder hadnât noticed Winter asking.
He squeezes her hand as a goodbye, murmuring his âI love youâ quietly enough that only she hears it before turning.
Cinder smiles as she watches him go, thanking the stars that sheâs met him at all.

Twenty One: So Much For Pasta
A Month Of Kaider Just some fairly long daily drabbles for the life of AU Cinder and Kai⊠A Kaider tale. Enjoy!Â
Cinder yells in frustration.
She slides down so sheâs sitting in the middle of the room, cross-legged.
âCinder, itâs okayâŠâ Winter whispers, kneeling beside her.
âNo. No, itâs not. Itâs not okay.â
âHeâll be okay,â Winter soothes.
Cinder looks up, shaking her head. âYou didnât see him. We have to get him back.â
âThis is insane, weâre students!â Scarlet exclaims. âWe shouldnât have to do this.â
âSo youâre not going to help?â Cinder asks incredulously.
Scarlet scoffs, âWhat do you take me for? Of course Iâm helping! But weâre not doing this without a plan.â
âHey, Cinder, you said he had a droid, right?â Cress asks.
Cinderâs eyes widen. âOh my stars, Cress, youâre a genius.â
Cidner jumps up, rooting around for Winterâs notebook.
Scarlet, Cress and Winter just stare at her until she finds it and flicks through the worn pages.
âGot it. Kai and I made Nainsi an accessible email account⊠Cress, can you send a message to this?â
âOh, come on, is the sky blue?â
Winter looks out of the window. âNo?â
Cress elbows her. âYou know what I mean.â
âHow can we be sure that Nainsi is with Kai though?â Scarlet asks.
Cinder curses under her breath but then shakes her head. âShe will be, sheâs usually kept hidden in the basement anywayâŠâ
âWe should wait until the boys get back anyway,â Winter says.
âWe are back,â Jacin announces, laughing.
Wolf kisses Scarlet before turning to face everyone else. âWe canât get into the basement from the outside.â
âTell me thereâs more to this?â Cinder asks hopefully.
Thorne nods. âOf course, my fellow detention buddy. We can get in through the storage room at the back, itâs totally empty.â
âThen we just have to find the basement. It seems like itâs near that.â Jacin puts one arm around Winter as he speaks. âIt shouldnât be hard to avoid those two.â
Cinder nods. âWeâre also going to try and email him.â
âAre you sure? What if Rikan sees?â Jacin frowns.
âNo way would Kai keep Nainsi out in the open anyway,â Cinder replies.
The seven of them start to make a quick plan, deciding whoâs on lookout and whoâs going to go inside to find Kai.
In the end, itâs decided that Cinder has to go in, as well as Thorne and Wolf. Cress will stay at Winterâs house so she and Winter can communicate with all of them. Jacin and Scarlet are in charge of making sure Rikan and Simone are preoccupied elsewhere, or theyâll create a diversion if needed.
âHold on, we should probably take a break to eat,â Winter suggests. âItâs pasta night too!â
Cinder smiles, her stomach already rumbling at the thought. Nobody is against the idea of food so the seven of them head downstairs.
âHey guys, want to grab your plates?â Evret asks, already familiar with the whole group.
âSure, Dad. Whereâs Mum?â Winter asks as she pulls the plates out of the cupboard.
âShe should be on her way, I guess thereâs just traffic,â Evret replies, smiling.
Winter nods and grabs some glasses, handing a few to Cinder and Scarlet as well. Once the tableâs ready, Evret sighs, âI better call your Mum and ask her if sheâs going to make it in time to eat.â
Cinder and Winter both smile as the doorbell rings, Evret shaking his head. âMaybe sheâs here already.â
He gets up to open the door, leaving the seven of them at the table.
They hear him talking to someone who clearly isnât Solstice and, when Evret doesnât return after five minutes, get up to see what the problem is.
âOh no,â Cinder breathes as she sees the flashing red and blue lights outside.
âMum got arrested?â Winter asks, frowning.
Scarletâs face softens. âOh, honey⊠I donât think thatâs the case.â
âThen what-?â Winter trails off as she pales, running forwards.
Evret turns to them, startled, and holds up a hand.
âIâm awfully sorry,â The woman says again, her face full of pity.
âNoâŠâ Cinder shakes her head, hoping that theyâve all got the wrong idea and this is just a misunderstanding.
âWould you like me to accompany you now or would you like to make your own way to the hospital?â
Evret makes a choked sound before nodding. âHow many can you permit?â
âThree,â The woman replies.
He nods again. âCould you give us five minutes, please?â
The woman nods and Evret thanks her before shutting the door.
He turns to them with a solemn expression. âIâm sorry, youâre going to have to head home.â
âWe understand,â Wolf says kindly, turning.
Scarlet heads with him but Jacin kisses Winter and envelops her in a tight hug before leaving, murmuring a soft âI love youâ that makes her smile. Thorne ebows Cinder silently and she nods to him but Cress doesnât accept that, hugging her before Thorne pulls her away too.
The pasta lies, forgotten, on the table, never to be eaten.
âDad?â Winter asks, her voice small.
âOh, Winter, Iâm sorry,â Evret mumbles. âCinder, come here.â
He pulls them both into a hug, sniffling. âAre you girls ready to go?â
Winter wipes her eyes. âWill Mum be okay?â
âI donât know,â Evret answers truthfully.
âWhat happened?â Cinder inquires.
âA car accident,â Evret tells them. âThe other driver was killed instantly and Solstice is in critical condition.â
Winter clutches Cinderâs hand. âCinderâŠâ
âI know, I knowâŠâ she murmurs back, guiding Winter to the policewomanâs car.
The car journey is uneventful, Winterâs quiet sobs filling the vehicleâs silence. Cinder notes that Evret is silently crying too and her heart lurches.
She wishes she had Kai with her to help.
She canât bring herself to cry but thereâs a part of her that hopes it was all a mistake and Solstice is perfectly healthy, waiting for them with her warm smiles. Thereâs a part of her that suspects otherwise but she shuts those thoughts out.
She has to physically pull Winter out of the car, letting her cousin cling onto her as they follow the policewoman. Evret glances at them every few seconds, as if to make sure theyâre not going to get injured as well.
âI hate to do this but I need to ask you a few questions firstâŠâ the receptionist says sadly.
Cinder blanks out the for rest of it, only registering white floors, Solsticeâs pale face, loud beeping, Winterâs tearful face, a policewoman talking about paperwork and an unfamiliar car before sheâs back in her bed at Winterâs place.
She shuts her eyes, hoping for any kind of escape from the day.
