1. What's your favourite fic with this ship/trope?

I think @foiazoli's Passion Honor Cunning and Loyalty series is my favorite for them right now. they're so hot in this and it really shows their mutual intensity. delicious. Also the way Zoli plays with singer biology is really fun. we should all do more of that.

2. What's an underappreciated (low kudos or comments) fic with this ship/trope?

slightly cheating since it's actually Kaladin/Sigzil/Leshwi, but @if-one-of-us-falls Caught was SO great, i'm literally obsessed with that

6. What's something you find surprising about fics with this ship/trope?

I'm surprised there isn't more fic set in the gap between Oathbringer and RoW. There's such an opening there to explore literally anything since we didn't get to see their first meeting or really any of their fights in canon. Also surprised there's not more fic exploring the insane triangle of causation that is Kaladin Leshwi and Moash. they are all so chained it's crazy.

7. What would you like to see more of with this ship/trope?

24. what's your fave fic from an Unusual Perspective (1st 2nd person, unusual outsider character, etc)

you KNOW i have to shoutout Lost Intent by BlindRadiant, the fic from the pov of jezrien's honorblade. there are about 3k stormlight fics and one is from the perspective of a sword that is like just barely sentient god bless

25. what's your favorite fic from before 2018?

when im feeling #sandersoncritical about how dalinar kinda stops giving a shit about navani in any capacity other than like being vaguely polite to her post oathbringer, i get some sick sad comfort out of this being metaphorically foreshadowed in 2015 with cosmere angst fic To Love Again by squirenonny. like. so true. we DIDNT know how the nightwatcher curse worked in 2015.

30. is there something you think will make the cosmere fanfic community last for years to come?

okay so here's what we all need to do, As A Community, bulleted list

-comment more on strangers' fics, (or the fics of people you know and run adjacent to, but are not friends with). cosmere fandom is EXCELLENT at commenting on the fics of their friends, but even the big name authors that have thousands of hits on their longfics have comment sections that are pretty much just their friends as frequent fliers. comments are the biggest driving force in keeping people posting so if you like a fic saying something is the best bet! (i will note that stormlight has, like, the best comment culture of any fandom ive ever been in)

-read outside your bubble, read widely, give things a fair shake if they look even remotely appealing to you. both the big name ships and kaladin character studies and the rarepairs or gen fics about some fuckass interlude character. you need to know what's going on with everyone

-make friends with other stormlight fanfic authors. right now i think the fanfic scene is pretty much set up in 3-4 discord servers but in my ideal paradise its 6-7 (six sevennn) and theres heavy crossover between all of them. literally nothing will inspire you to write more than having people to bounce fic ideas off of

-if you think you can't write yes you can. if you think your fic is too bad to publish no it's not. if you think nobody wants to read it i promise someone will

-one thing ive been doing lately is when im angsting about stats on one of my fics or whatever, i sort by whatever stat is making me feel bad, go to the final page, and read as many of the fics that have Less (whatever stat i'm spiraling about) as i can. it both keeps things in perspective (you need to spend as much time looking at people who are getting less traction than you as you do looking at people getting more traction than you to avoid going insane/getting a victim complex that makes you impossible to talk to) and makes fics you would have skipped otherwise get on your radar. you dont have to Like all these fics, there is nothing wrong with going ok its still dog ass and i dont like it (as long as you dont tell the author that of course lmao), but it's really been helping me with Stat Angst lately

-TOUCH SOURCE MATERIAL AT LEAST ONCE EVERY COUPLE YEARS, IDEALLY MORE OFTEN. not saying this as a "he would not fucking say that" thing, but in a way that's like. okay you wanna stay in this fandom/writing for it for the long haul? you wanna keep it alive over the wat-stormlight 6 gap? you need to reremember why you like these books in the first place. you need to remember WHY your blorbos are your blorbos, and the way they do things in canon. this can be as extensive as a full reread featuring edgedancer and dawnshard or as focused as looking up all the chapters from the pov of your favorite character(s) to write on the coppermind and exclusively reading those chapters.

16. Which fic do you go back to and read again and again?

Devotion by thephilosophersapprentice!!! It's got intersex, genderqueer Kaladin, and it's actually one of my favorite explorations of gender and Vorinism... Augh. It's a big inspiration for me and is put me onto dissecting Vorinism.

21. What's your favourite femslash fic?

Head over Feet by @mayaeatsbooks!!! It's the longest Shalvin fic last I checked and the characterization is amazing!

22. What's your favourite fic with a non-binary character?

HAHAHA Oh man I think it's been roughly 5 months now? Give or take? I was tormenting some friends by editing the 3d Close-up of the Vyre figurine from the Brotherwise kickstarter and I've been fond of it ever since.

(Tag game) Hiiiii, so the fic is fr titled The Way We Handle Our Bodies, which is way cooler than "kal&sf" like it is in my notes and wip tab. My writing has improved so much since I started writing it, so I look forward to going back and reworking it.

It's basically my favorite au for Kal which is: omfg, what if he had the Honor shard, and it was just dormant? So it takes place post-row, and it's the Stormfather & Kaladin talking about how SF felt Honor within Kaladin when giving him the vision. It still gives me brainworms.

Here's a piece of it (not reworked):

Potentially, the Stormfather says. Though exactly how you awaken that Power, I am uncertain. I have not told Dalinar. He will… be curious. He will demand answers I do not have.

Kaladin is reworking this relationship in his head as they talk. His creator. His friend. What would Kaladin feel if he saw Teft again? Moash? Elhokar? If he lost Syl, and found her again, in someone else?

“Storms, I don’t know what I’d do if I just found someone I thought I’d lost,” Kaladin says, softly. “Even if he’s still asleep inside of me, or something.” 

…Yes, I found my friend again. That is enough for now. No answers need to be given.

I don't know what I'd like to do with it yet or how I'd like to explore it, but I'd probably rework how "truthful to canon" I'll make Kaladin in future works, explore his core tenets, and put him in even more dastardly Situations™

Dalinar/Teft is an idea which intrigues me deeply but not, I think, one I could fit into a ficlet -- I'd never thought about it before and it's a definite "ooooh talk me into it" -- so here's, uh, some Kaladin+Syl, exact nature of the relationship up to the reader. It's been a hot minute by now, but this kind of meme is usually supposed to be about beating pefectionism sooo.

"Kaladin, you have something in your hair." Wind ruffles around Kaladin, a blustery caress, and then Syl coalesces out of the air in front of him with a leaf clutched to her chest with both hands. "I got it!"

"Thanks, Syl."

"Lift stuck something to your back."

"I noticed." Kaladin sighs, twisting to try and grab whatever-it-is. Syl clicks her tongue.

"You're not even close. Here, let me see if I can --" There's a fierce gust just to the left of his spine, and a piece of scorched paper flies up into the air and over Kaladin's shoulder. On it is a rude little face.
