Since I’ve started drawing Cosmere characters, in my own artworks I noticed two things 1) their uniform designs are different every fucking time 2) Rlain’s carapace looks different every fucking time.

I think I have a problem with decisions.

As a literary device? Hooooo dang he certainly exists to be a contrast point to SO MANY characters. Fucking vital for the story that Sanderson ended up telling (for better and/or for worse).

He is a bad king, as was Gavilar, but while Gavilar is evil-bad, Elhokar is incompetent-bad.

He is a bad king, and clings to that power despite not being suited to it while Dalinar rejects the power despite being suited to it.

He is a overconfident as a leader when he absolutely shouldn't be, whilest Kaladin is constantly self-doubting despite being a far more deserving leader than any of the Kholins.

Despite being a pathetic human, he's not the worst dad in the series by a long shot. See above Kholins, and from Kaladin's PoV, Lirin.

Where he is an insecure king who literally endangers his own life DURING COMBAT in one of the first scenes we see him as King in because—again, solely of his insecurities—one of his sister's first actions as queen is to stab a misogynistic aristocrat.
