I wish Chris Latta had lived long enough to do the convention circuit. Why do I feel he would have been the type to have the funniest anecdotes at panels? Just comes out with the craziest and wildest stories, and then also renowned for incidents at the after convention bar. He could have been a legend.
Talk about the animation quality of a show all y’all want, m’kay, but personally, if the voice acting ain’t good, I can’t get immersed.
And these passionate gentlemen (and more), thanks to Wally Burr’s direction, goddamn SERVED.
I’m convinced the amount of effort they put into voicing their characters is (a good chunk of) the reason(s) why Transformers got so popular and beloved in the first place, and why the franchise remains as popular and beloved even 40 years down the line.
Absolute legends.

Galvatron is the Serpentor of Transformers, in that he's a replacement for a preexisting leader on the side of the evil faction (Cobra Commander and Megatron, respectively). But amazingly, I think that Cobra Commander and Serpentor might both be more interesting than Megatron and Galvatron to me. Cobra Commander and Serpentor are evil and theatrical and their lackeys don't overshadow them. Megatron/Galvatron is an okay villian, but there's no way that he overshadows his men.
Starscream, Soundwave, Shockwave and even someone like Cyclonus is more interesting than Megatron/Galvatron. Megatron/Galvatron is an abusive commander who treats all of his men with disrespect and basically deserves to be couped. He reminds me of Magneto in this way, except that Magneto is just that touch better for me. But the comparisons between Megatron and Magneto mostly arise from them being prejudicial fools who think they're superior to others. They're also both abusive to their men (Starscream and Toad really need to just have therapy together), and they're also characters who got whitewashing in the decades after their creation.
Cobra Commander and Serpentor don't really need whitewashing, and they never got it. But somehow I still almost want to side with Cobra Commander sometimes, because Chris Latta really just shoves some emotion into his voice. Sure, his Starscream and Cobra Commander voices are whiny and screechy. But put his all in those parts, and it works.
I don't know what was going on with Chris Latta, because he apparently died of Brain Inflammation. Also, his wikipedia page quotes a writer for the hasbro toy shows mentioning having to bail Chris Latta out of jail for unclear reasons. Also, Chris Latta was apparently fired from season 1 of the Simpsons because he was a jerk to people. And then his stand up (a clip I saw of it) really had him leaning into pretending he was mentally ill and psychotic. I don't think I'll ever know what was going on with him, but somehow that makes me relate to him and adore his performances even more. He just seems like a man with a lot going on, and I already felt like I could project onto his characters. Now it's even easier somehow.
I'm losing focus, but while I'm here… I've only seen one episode of GI Joe with Dick Gautier as Serpentor, but he wasn't bad. Not anywhere near Chris Latta's maniacal evil, but there's something there. Something kind of imperious and violent sounding. Not bad, and there was definitely something there that deserved more exploration then the show had time for (what with it ending with the movie and all).
Cobra as a villainous organization almost works better than the Decepticons to me, just because their commanders are all really effective. It I had to compare any of them to each other though…that's actually pretty hard. But Cyclonus is definitely the Decepticon Storm Shadow. Storm Shadow and Spirit have the same relationship as Ultra Magnus and Cyclonus to me. They're enemies who could be friends if they were on the same side. Both warriors with honour, who aren't willing to defeat their rivals unless it's in honourable combat. I like that dynamic, and it does work for me.
Starscream is like 25, as said in the G1 casting paper. I knew he was a young lil scremlin jdjsjsjsj

COOOBRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!
Here's that shouty little imbecile that is Cobra Commander, playing with a familiar looking jet! I love this guy so much. He can be a coward at times, but he never chills out. He treats his troops as if they were useless wimps who care about not getting caught by the Joes, but he does have a soft spot for Destro. Really though...he wants to steal his place and Serpentor's, much like Starscream wants to overthrow Megatron.
To recap: Cobra Commander is a shriller, smaller and angrier Starscream. And the cherry on top - their voices come from Chris Latta. He did voice some good guys like Wheeljack and Gung-ho, too!
HOPE YOU LIKE IT, YOU FOOLS!

Given the Skaven are popular now due to the range refresh, I gotta say, given how they're often described as a "faction of Starscreams," you ever think about how it's a minor tragedy that Chris Latta didn't live long enough to voice Thanquol?
Well, at least Tom Kenny or Matt Chapman doing the Blue Laser voice would work as a perfectly cromulent substitute...
