My first attempt at a Vieux Carré, recipe/idea courtesy of my new Tumblr brother, Jax.
@jaxriley13
I think this is my new favorite cocktail.
*So* good! Dangerously so. Best to stop at one. (Maybe two?)
Recipe:
3/4 oz each: Rye whiskey, Vermouth, Cognac
1/2 oz Benedictine
2 dashes each: Angostura and Peychaud's bitters
Twist of lemon peel and drop in (I ran mine around the rim)
Stir with ice until chilled (~45 seconds)
I served mine over an ice sphere
Add one Luxardo cherry for garnish (or if you're more frugal-minded, a regular maraschino cherry or, better yet, a Trader Joe's Amarena cherry)
Just wonderful
THE PERFECT MARGARITA RECIPE? YOU DECIDE!
PICS INFO: Mega spotlight on a Margarita recipe w/ fresh Lime & Bitters -- Yield: 1 Cocktail. Prep Time: 5 mins. Total Time: 5 mins.
INGREDIENTS:
1 1/2 ounces (45 ml) Tequila we prefer Resposada or Anejo for this cocktail
1 1/2 ounces (45 ml) fresh Lime Juice
1 ounce (30 ml) Simple Syrup , or to taste
3 dashes Orange Bitters
flaky salt for the rim (optional)
INSTRUCTIONS:
For a Salted Rim: Rub the rim of an old fashioned glass (or whatever glass you prefer) with an edge of a lime slice. Swirl the rim through a small pile of flaky salt to salt the rim. Add ice into the glass.
Combine tequila, lime juice, simple syrup, and bitters in an ice filled shaker.
Shake vigorously for 15 seconds, then strain into the prepared glass. Serve or drink immediately and with leisure.
NOTES:
Note 1: Simple syrup is a 1:1 ratio of sugar and water. One cup sugar dissolved in one cup of water. This can always be modified for preferred taste and experimentation, but this is a good starting point.
