By 200 CE, Gaul was fully integrated into the Roman Empire and divided into provinces such as Gallia Narbonensis, Gallia Lugdunensis, Gallia Belgica, and Germania Inferior and Germania Superior, which flanked the Limes Germanicus, the fortified frontier along the Rhine River.
