A sexgender (or sexgender system/umbrella term) that a kyriarchal/binarist/etc. society/culture/system/etc. tried to suppress or destroy, possibly successfully for a time (conversion therapy, forced detransition, closeting for safety, colonization, forced religious conversion, IGM/forced "corrective" surgeries, forced hormones, forced puberty through the denial of sexgender affirming treatment for trans youth &/or the forcing of intersex teens through a puberty that their perisex guardians/doctors wanted them to go through, etc.) but which is nonetheless still there, present, felt, and alive, as if it were reanimated or raised from the dead.
It is a visceral sexgender connected to the meat, flesh, and bones of the body, not just the sex, gonads, genitalia, hormones, characteristics, chromosomes, etc. that make up one's body (if any), but the very atoms of which one consists of. These atoms which can be shaped into a body that more accurately reflects one's true self, if one so desires.
It is also connected to things which evoke the necromantic arts: blood, bones/skeletons/skulls, burial sites (cemeteries, graveyards, tombs, etc.), butterflies (often found lapping up the liquids oozing from decaying mass; also representing change), candles, carrion/flesh/meat, cicadas (personal thing; they spend most of their lives underground in the earth, then finally emerge, shed their skin, get wings, and spend the rest of their lives in the treetops; very much like a soul ascending to a higher plane, reminiscent of angels, also I just really like cicadas ok???), corpses, death, decay/decomposition, maggots and flies, magic/sorcery/witchcraft, nighttime, ritual circles, secrecy, shrouds, vultures (and other scavengers, like corvids), vulture bees, etc. HOWEVER these things are held in a positive and empowering light, not necessarily as things which are nasty, scary, taboo, etc., but as things which are beautiful, free, and reclaimed.
It is simultaneously something holy and unholy, divine and mundane, sacred and profane, alive and dead. It is chaos and order, it is balance. The person of this sexgender is both the reanimated and the reanimator, autonomous and self determined in the face of hardship. The flesh is the spirit, the spirit is the soul, the soul is the flesh. Instead of an abomination, it is related to survival, a twisted rebirth in defiance of the system that sought to destroy it. It is the horror of being buried alive, the action of clawing your way out of the coffin and the soil, and the relief at being above ground again.
While this sexgender was originally created within a specific context unique to the coiner (abinary/apothibinary/ilyagender: unrelated to any sexgender binaries, trinaries, quadraries, spectrums, or systems; in defiance of the kyriarchal Eurocolonialist white supremacist sex/gender binary myth), using it as an umbrella term or system allows for similar labels to be coined referencing specific sexgenders. For example (and these are not definitive labels; just spitballing) womanrevenant, manrevenant, agenderevenant (note that the "still there, present, felt, and alive" references the experience of holding onto, reclaiming, or reviving one's suppressed gender, or lack thereof in this case; the absence of gender would still be noticed by one; this gender/system is inclusive of those who are genderless, gendernull, etc. and similar experiences), mavrevenant, ilyarevenant, xenorevenant, multigenderevenant, fluidgenderevenant, varsexrevenant, intersexrevenant, abinarevenant, etc. or something(s) along those lines; specific labels for sexgender variant (trans, intersex, etc.) who are specifically sexgendered &/or binary/binary aligned. I'm writing this at like 1 am so you'll have to come up with your own labels here.
[sexgender]revenant can theoretically apply to any sexgender or lack thereof; any sexgender which was repressed, suppressed, or which kyriarchy (or any system within) sought to eradicate, but couldn't actually destroy completely or permanently. The one and only rule is that if the name of the sexgender prefix ends in an 'R', don't include the 'R' at the beginning of 'revenant'. Let the ending 'R' be the first letter of 'revenant'. It looks better that way IMO. Ex: agenderevenant, the 'R' of 'agender' is also the beginning letter of 'revenant'. That's the only "rule" of this sexgender; and even then, what am I, a cop?
This sexgender is related to antibinary in its rejection of the white supremacist myth of a sex/gender binary and its rebellion against said construct, though (unlike antibinary) this term is not culturally exclusive; it can be used by anyone who has been victimized by or survived the enforcing of the sex/gender binary myth. This includes anyone of any sexgender/etc.: intersex, perisex, trans, cis, etc. (yes; even perisex and cissexual/cisgendered people are/can be victimized by the enforcing of a strict gender binary; yes, even if they're also perpetuating it!)
Words similar to revenant, such as 'reanimated' (gendereanimated) or 'undead' (genderundead) could be used, if desired; I'm uncertain if such terms have already been coined, so my apologies if those are different experiences/genders. DO NOT use 'zombie', 'mummy', or any other culturally exclusive terms (terms from closed cultures) unless you belong to that culture(s). This gender is not an excuse to culturally appropriate.
While this sexgender references spiritual/magical concepts, one does not need to believe in any of them to be this sexgender or identify with this label. While it can be a spiritual sexgender for some, or relating to their spiritual beliefs, it's largely metaphorical; atheists, aspiritual, areligious, nontheists, nonreligious, nonspiritual, agnostics, ignostics, and the like are welcome to identify as/with this label or to use it to describe their gender/experience.
This is an INCREDIBLY personal sexgender to be, describing my experience as an antibinary abinary apothibinary ilyagender maverique (plus) individual who both consciously and sub/unconsciously suppressed their truth for most of their life to appease their oppressors and survive under a violent cissexual binarist construct that had been forced onto them from the day they were born.
If this term or concept already exists: WHAT??? WHAT DO YOU MEAN??? IT'S SO HYPERSPECIFIC WTF DO YOU MEAN???? 😭 Consider it an alternate term but also HOW???
No flag (yet) because graphic design is neither my passion nor my talent. When I picture a flag, I see muted, grayed, cool colors: gray, lavender, lilac, deep blues and purples, blacks, maybe even green or yellow. I'm thinking corpse/decomp colors, night colors… very pretty. Wish you could see it :) If anyone wants to take a shot at making a flag(s) for it (or any specific genderevenant labels) feel free. There won't be any official flag(s) until I can figure out what my mind is showing me, but feel free to make as many alt flags as you feel compelled or inspired to; open source baby.
Y'see, it's nighttime. The full moon glistens above you. You are a corpse floating in a magical circle, about to take your next first breath. The coffin below you has been broken open from the inside, jagged shards of wood and piles of uneven dirt surround it. The candles' flames flicker in the gentle breeze. Maggots squirm and flies swarm. Spectating vultures perch in the creaking branches of long dead trees. Curious corvids chatter amongst themselves as they hop from headstone to headstone, upon which hollow, abandoned cicada exuviae cling. The ghosts of the people you tried to be watch from the distant fog. The angelic statues standing stalwart and stoic over the silently sleeping deceased smile beneath clumps of moss and twisting vines of ivy. Death caresses your cheek and rouses you from your suffering slumber. She kisses your icy lips and breathes a merciful sigh of relief into your parched, gaping mouth. The heart you thought would never beat again plays a march in your chest. Your aching bosom rises and falls as the wind fills your lungs. Your heavy, limp limbs begin to twitch. Your sight becomes clear. The cold is still there, but the warmth of who you are tempers it. They could not kill you; what a pity, they tried so hard.
Coined August 7th, 2025 at like 1 am in my phone's notes; just now getting around to sharing it bc. Y'know.
I'd also chime in genderghost (which I'm sure already exists) alt. genderkilled, which references one who feels no gender because one's true gender was successfully semipermanently or permanently "killed" by the aforementioned oppressive binarist system/etc.; I feel others might be able to elaborate more on this term/experience, but I figured I could mention it.
This is a human experience and it would be wrong (not to mention amoral, bigoted, and against my personal code) of me to gatekeep language and terminology (hermenutical/epistemic injustice), especially that which revolves around sexgender and experiences of sexgender variant people.
Even if we disagree, slightly or absolutely, on some or all things, I still want you to have language that describes your experiences. You don't need to recoin it (or the microlabels), it's here for all to use. I block freely, but even if you're blocked by me (or vice versa), you can still use/ID with this label (or any of its microlabels).
Feel free to spread the word &/or post it on other sites/archives/etc., though I also ask that you not change any of the wording. Credit to Leighton S. (&/or my tumblr username: ugh-leigh-nb, "ugh-leigh-nb on tumblr") (they/xe) for its origin would be greatly appreciated, as this is (as I've said prior) a very important and personal gender for me (spec. ilyarevenant & atrinarevenant). 👉👈 Ultimately, even if my name is lost to time, if this label can help at least one other person describe their experiences/sexgender, then it's all been worth it.
I'll block people who are expressly bigoted (towards anyone) on this post, or who attempt to start discourse/drama/arguments on it. Questions are welcome but like. I'm not an authority, your parent, or a cop.
Tagging @radiomogai because that seems to be what people/thinglings/tumblrites do when they coin genders on this here webbed site. Other archives are welcome/free to reblog this; godspeed you funky little genderlings.

Sorry this got long, brevity is not my strongsuit. I didn't put it under a keep reading for archival purposes.
