ADHD/ASD Grounding Phrases
Phrases that I have found helpful to de-escalate and ground myself
— • — • — • — • — • — • — • — • — • — • —
1. “I don’t have to follow every thought I have.” - It’s okay to allow thoughts to exist without exploring them further.
2. “It’s okay to do nothing with the patterns that I notice.” - Sometimes patterns are just patterns and it’s okay to allow them to exist without doing anything with them and even forget or lose track of them.
3. “My mind and body will hold on to what is important” - It will come up again eventually if it was something I needed to say.
⚠️I am not a therapist, nor am I equipped to help with you if you are in crisis. Please refer to your local crisis line or the national suicide hotline for help. 🌱You are not alone.⚠️
Kinda fucked up that you can get over 50% on an assignment in school and still get an F.
Like, let’s say you need to clean your house, on top of this you also have other normal things to do in the day as well as basic human needs such as eating, sleeping, bathing, hobbies.
If In one day you clean 58% of your house I’d say you’ve done a pretty good job! your house is a lot cleaner than it was before! now you can have friends over and live a bit more comfortably!
But if you apply the American grading system, you failed. You didn’t even get a D.
What’s up with that?
Javi just made my day. He liked my tweet. And I’m now crying with happiness!!
He’s such an inspiration to me and here’s a list of reasons why:
He’s able to openly talk about living with HIV and I’m diagnosed with ASD, which is Autism Spectrum Disorder. It took us (me and my family) several therapist to figure it out. At first, they kept on saying that it was Selective Mutism, which I laughed at because I’m highly sociable with my artistic peers but with academic peers not so much.
He openly talks about his sexuality. I admire that about him too, because people are still closed minded about the idea of different sexualities. And it’s so sad to see people not accept others for who they are. I’m like a very accepting person, so this blog is safe for everyone. You don’t have to be shy to come and talk to me.
He said that Clueless is everything in a video. It’s true, you know. Clueless is everything. Side Note: I’m Cher, daily.
He’s the very definition of inspirational kindness.
He has a kind spirit.
That’s probably all for now.
Autistics are not: annoying, rude, too quiet, too loud, weird, too much, stupid or obsessed.
Autistics are: passionate, honest, sensitive, loyal, committed, creative, etc!
Annoying: autistics are not annoying. autistics we can be very passionate about our special interests and it makes us happy and we like to talk about them. We like to info dump and that's okay. Loving something to talk about does not automatically make you annoying. even though we might feel that way. we constantly feel like we are annoying and that we are annoying people.
Rude: autistics are not rude. It might seem that way from our tone or are way of speaking or bluntness but we don't obviously need to be mean in any way or form or hurt anyone's feelings.
Too loud/Too quiet: being too loud or being too quiet is something that autistic to deal with a lot. recognizing your verbal volume level is very hard for autistics especially when we are excited. we might get louder or when we're upset we might be quieter if we're anxious. we might be quieter some go nonverbal or semiverbal or not talk at all ever and that's okay. there are more ways to communicate than just verbal words with your mouth parts.
weird: what's wrong with being weird? autistics might have their own special interests and they might be something that the regular people aren't into but it's totally fine. you should be allowed to like what you like as long as you're not hurting yourself or anyone else. being weird is fine. everybody's a little weird but you shouldn't shame someone for having a niche interest or something you think is weird.
too much: autistics are not too much. wanting and needing to have support is not too much. we feel this way a lot that we are too much and we don't deserve help or accommodations or support, but that is not true. you deserve to get the support you need and that is totally 100% okay. autistics are not too much; they deserve support and help.
obsessed: some autistics say they're obsessed and that's okay. but calling someone obsessed is not a cool thing to say. some autistics might actually be obsessed by dealing with obsessive thoughts but not using it in a rude way is not nice or appreciated at all. being autistic and having a special interest can be consuming and hyper fixations can flood your life and that's the only thing you think of and you want to do and what you want to talk about and that's hard, so please just let us do our best to cope in this world please.
