I downloaded Facebook again today. It’s been almost two months since I completely wiped it from my phone because, honestly, the feed was just getting too toxic for my peace of mind. But the universe has a funny way of timing things. One of the absolute first things that hit my screen when I started scrolling was an engagement post from a senior schoolmate back in my high school days. And man, it hit me right in the feelings.
They have been so incredibly consistent. Grade 7 palang ako no’n when I first found out about them, unconsciously hearing stories through a friend of a friend. Ang tagal na nila. Now, they’ve both finished their studies, earned their degrees, and they are still standing so strong together. In a world where today's standards of romance feel so shallow, fleeting, and transactional, seeing them feels like a breath of fresh air. It’s hard to figure out if people are even genuine anymore, or if everything is just too good to be true. But looking at them? It just amazes me.
The caption read: “Finally after 10yrs and 8months nga pagkuyogay. No more Sanaol SHE SAID 'YES' 💍❤️🥹 ilysm Engr. Ellen”.
Bro, the typographical errors don’t even bother me at all. Honestly, let the lovers express their love however they want. Text aesthetics don't matter when the emotion is that heavy. What makes it even closer to home is that the woman in the photo is actually the older sister of my friend, Harold. Kahit na hindi ako kilala ng ate niya, it made me so genuinely happy. I’m happy for you, ate and kuya. Please hold on to this strong love of yours. I’m rooting for you both.
I guess, after everything, I still actually believe in true love. Even with all the negative notions floating around about modern dating, men, and their intentions nowadays, moments like this ground you. I just love it when people love other people. It's absolutely, undeniably wholesome.
