AEGOROMANTIC Definition: Aegoromantic or anegoromantic, also known as autochorisromantic, is a microlabel on the aromantic spectrum that describes those who enjoy the concept of romance, and may experience “romantic feelings”, but have a disconnection between themself and the subject of romantic fantasies. Aegoromantic individuals may have romantic fantasies, enjoy romantic media, or engage in shipping in fandoms, but they tend to feel little to no romantic attraction in real life and typically do not desire a romantic relationship. Their romantic fantasies usually only involve other individuals, such as fictional characters or celebrities, and not the aegoromantic individual themselves. Oftentimes, the romantic fantasies are viewed from a dissociative third-person perspective, or alternatively from the point of view of one of the characters. Some common aegoromantic experiences include: 1) Enjoying romantic content, and the concept of a romantic relationship, but lacking the same enthusiasm for a romantic relationship in real life, and may be indifferent, averse or repulsed by the idea of personally being in a real-life romantic relationship. 2) Fantasizing about romance, but: 2a) the aegoromantic individual is not involved, but may rather only be a disembodied observer. 2b) it is seen through the perspective of another individual rather than as one's actual self. 2c) no individuals one knows in real life are involved, but rather just celebrities, fictional characters or original characters. 2d) it is idealized and unrealistic. Adding realistic elements to the fantasy makes the idea of romance less appealing or even repulsive. 3) Getting warm and fuzzy feelings, “butterflies in the stomach”, or other sensations commonly associated with romantic attraction in response to romantic fantasies and/or content, despite not experiencing romantic attraction to the individuals in the fantasy/content, but may rather get those feelings from the situations and relationship dynamics in the storylines. 4) Cannot imagine themselves in a romantic relationship, or doing romantic things, (like kissing and going on romantic dates), or in a marriage, or in living a whole life with someone. 5) Perceiving someone as "attractive", yet not seeing the appeal of doing romantic things, like kissing, with the individual in real life. The aegoromantic individual may instead prefer to fantasize about them. 6) Experiencing romantic attraction only when imagining to be someone else and seeing the target of said attraction through the eyes of that other individual or character (vicarious attraction). Aegoromantic may be similar to pseudoromantic, which describes an individual who experiences a non-romantic attraction which mimics romantic attraction, often by inducing romantic feelings.
