finally at the stage of sewing together all these granny squares. making a vest for one of my old professors, slightly modified from a vintage 70s pattern. this is just the bottom, more squares to come for the top section.
top and bottom are attached. just need to close it up at the shoulders, put a border around the whole thing, and block!
the beading, like my suffering, is endless.
Ant scarf is done!! im so happy with how it turned out. can't wait for the right weather to wear it!

starting on the knit Ant Scarf by Devout Hand! this is my first time trying double knitting and knit colorwork. its always so cool to learn a new technique in fiber art, its like magic every time.
there are a few mistakes to notice here but tbh frogging back to fix a single stitch here or there is not something im about to do when im making for myself lol. wanting to mix more red and green in my wardrobe and this was the perfect opportunity. โค๏ธ๐
I drew a pigeon named Baby! I was very inspired by Lucy Liang's recent vlog showing her work with rehabilitating pigeons so I had to make this. (tumblr wrecked the quality, im so sorry T_T)
Check out the vlog and the raffle she has going to support these rescues:
from my main but somewhat relevent cuz yall should enter the raffle for a crochet pattern bundle and check out lucy's work if u arent already familiar!
Say hello to Esther! she is now fully operational!
the bobbin winder was a bit tricky. this center screw keeps wanting to turn with the disc no matter how much oil i apply. its much better now than it was but it still works best if i hold it still with a screwdriver, otherwise it tightens/loosens as it goes until either it's too tight and stops rotating or its too loose and the teeth of the gear dont interact with the groves on the pulley. not ideal but its perfectly possible to get a nicely wound bobbin.
the first actual garment seam i sewed with her was a couple of side darts to take in this old streched out binder. it fits much better now!
I made her a cover for the spool pin and just look at her go!

The belt and oil finally arrived! The housing is looking much nicer after being cleaned with the proper oil. She could probably stand to have another round of cleaning but shes already looking so much better. No more squeeking of the treadle, but i've gotta tighten the belt a bit more.

So I found a pdf of the manual for my singer model, printed it out, and thread bound it. A very fun new adventure in fiddly handcrafts. The covers are strengthened with the cardboard of a wheat thins box :โ)
Progress on the innards!
Scraping the crud off all the metal was at times extremely satisfying and at other times so fiddly it made my chest tight. But the results are well worth the effort.
Been trying to think of a name for her. I had a couple in mind, but her serial # is in the G series so maybe a G name?

LOOK what my in-laws gave me for christmas!!!!! ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ
She's a model 127 Singer treadle from 1922!!!!! I saw her in their garage while we were hanging out at thanksgiving and expressed my enthusiasm at even just seeing one in person. I had brought over some cleaning supplies with the intention of giving her a once over and to my shock and awe, found her with a big red bow on.
She needs a good deep clean, some rust removed, and a new belt - I cant wait to see her running properly.
Pictured is the bobbin along with all the old thread i peeled off the spool and some bits and buttons that were in the drawers.
Its amazing to tinker with a machine this old, to see evidence of the past hundred years of use. the enamel and decals are more worn on the working side where the fabric is fed through and the arm is worn smooth where so many hands have gripped to tuck the machine back into the table. i cried last night just thinking about it. She's a living piece of history.
I'll post updates as i make progress on restoring her.
After some trial and error to find the right method, I was able to get a bunch of the metal components cleaned. Some mineral spirits with a scouring pad and some 1000 grit sandpaper did the trick. I'll have to figure out a gentler method for the chrome components but thats for another day. Heres a look at their previous condition.
All the crochet/knit gifts i made for christmas. For my sister, an amigurumi of one of her oc's (his name is Abel, and isnt he cute!). For my mom, my first colorwork (beyond like basic stripes) crochet project - this stunning snake scarf. For my nana, a cozy garter stitch shawl. And for my dad, a couple of much needed beanies.

Hey, binder enjoyers/utilizers, or any others with sewing skills (especially including knowers of trans people), for no reason in particular โจ๏ธ:

If you know someone who needs one, give it a go. Try making your own first, test it cautiously.
Get powermesh fabric and nyon spandex for this, maybe some kind of lining fabric if you feel fancy. Preferably get with a buddy (or several) and buy it in bulk to get better prices on fabric (or at the very least reach online order minimums, if you can't find it in person).
The second link has a lot of good information about safety and fabric composition. Please feel free to add on to this, if you have any advice or other free pattern links! :^)
