re: your recent post on treatment resistant ocd, I have a bit of a different perspective I wanted to share.
I think there are experiences that are considered by psychiatry to not be 'true' psychosis and are instead categorised under ocd, but don't necessarily have the same underlying feelings commonly associated with ocd (e.g., responsibility over events one doesn't have control over) and as such does not 'respond to treatment' in ways that are expected.
the more I have been in situations where a belief I had could be true (à la 'exposure'), the more firmly I held the belief. the only thing that has helped is my reality being treated as real to me.
oh 100% - i've spoken to several others quite a bit re: the overlap between ocd and psychosis (that is, the shared experience of dissent from consensus reality that is pathologized in two different ways). i've experienced what i guess could be classified as psychotic symptoms related to ocd since i was young; was formally diagnosed with ocd when i was 7/8 iirc. not just having 'delusions,' as it were, but seeing / hearing / feeling things that weren't there. it's increased with age, though i'm slightly (????) better able to manage my 'ocd symptoms' these days (or perhaps just have more effective workarounds).
i agree with you that there are a number of things shoehorned into ocd - for me and others - that have a substantially higher amount of characteristics in common with psychosis + overall symptoms of, say, schizophrenia, than other things understood as symptomatic of ocd. i guess not everyone experiences them who's diagnosed with ocd, but personally, i've enjoyed availing myself of resources and connections with people who have been dx'd w/ various psychotic disorders as a way to cope with what's going on, with the understanding ofc that the psych industry considers me in many ways to be a lost cause.
