i dont know why we have so much pointless infighting.
the “trans men have male privilege” take is baffling to me. when you were asked about it, the examples you gave were just that we face… *less* hate crimes.
trans women are demonized and sexualized. trans men are erased and demeaned as “delusional women”. we both get hate crimed and raped and murdered for our existences. we’re both legislated against.
we arent enemies in this. all transgender people are targets, and whatever “male privilege” trans men have isnt real enough to protect us. its about as helpful as being “one of the good ones.”
a high bar to clear, and one that will decapitate you nonetheless.
im genuinely extremely disappointed that this blog is perpetuating this meaningless discourse when its such a great resource. ive learned a lot, and its truly upsetting to have to unfollow, but i cant get behind any blog willingly- although probably unintentionally- dividing trans people when we’re all at such risk.
I don't know why people feel the need to come into my inbox with "feminism has gone too far" shit either but hey, here we are.
Y'know, this may be shocking to you but facing less violence is a privilege. As is facing less hypervisibility, certain trans/misogynistic barriers in healthcare, often being paid better (which results in less trans men/mascs in sex work! which also helps with the less violence aspect), having a general better social standing within the trans community because of the trans/misogyny you can wield against your TMA siblings and no worries of facing things like v-coding!
Those aren't pointless things. You view them as pointless because they don't affect you as much and/or simply because of the privilege you wield.
I never said anyone was an enemy; you said that, just now, not me. You've decided that having privilege means you must be an enemy instead of considering you could be a fucking ally and work to understand and break down your privilege and use it when you can to help your siblings.
Of course your privilege won't prevent transphobes from coming after you. But that doesn't negate said privilege.
I'm Black and I've heard this type of shit, word for word, for years from Black men who don't want to hear about misogynoir. Yes, yes, we're all in this together and yet you can't stand hearing that others might be dealing with more oppression on top of the oppression you share and that you might be able to help if you got your head out of your ass.
It's all "we're a community" until you have to include other axis' of oppression (like race, disability, transmisogyny) and then suddenly, politics have gone too far and are "dividing the community."
I've been open about being a trans/feminist since I started this blog. I've been open about being an intersectional feminist and wanting to dissect how bigotry interacts with sex education. If you're disappointed, that is only because you have not been paying attention.
And because you believe it's "divisive" to talk about how oppressions intersect instead of facing the fact that what's really divisive is when people refuse to even acknowledge that privilege exists and thus isolate other oppressed people within their own communities.
I love answering questions, I love teaching, I love learning but I refuse to tolerate bigotry and if that's the hill you wanna die on, well, get fucked. ✨
