didnt know how to interpret "make it a lizard" so i wrote lizard and drew an arrow pointing to the horse so people know its a lizard. Also didn't know what bat horns were so I gave it a horned bat nose

This is a view of the East and South canals. At least half of all the Phoenix metro canals were originally built by the Hohokam (from roughly 200-1400 CE), and are still in use (restored) today.
Phoenix, Arizona actually has more miles (kilometers) of Canals total than both Venice and Amsterdam. No, really. Phoenix has about 180 miles of canals, many of which are built on ancient canal foundations.

If I see one more person do this I’m actually gonna tweak out. That cis guy character can be a trans man. That cis woman character can be a trans man. Headcannoning a cis character as trans is not killing anyone’s representation and that is pretty obvious.
Basilisk... which would be SUPER awesome except that for the rest of my existence I'd have to choose between being insanely deadly / killing everyone remotely nearby, or living blind, and I'm not a fan of that.
Without Warning (1994) is basically an American Ghostwatch (1992). Released on October 30th and aired (ONCE EVER) on CBS, they took greater pains to stress that it wasn't real and avoid much uproar. Because there didn't seem to be the kind of legendary panic of a Ghostwatch or War of the Worlds (1938) I don't think it had the chance to develop the same kind of cult following.
Despite knowing it was fiction, watching it on YouTube, and having survived 1994 several years ago, this movie scared me in a way that no other movie I've watched this year has. The acting, especially in the last ten minutes, was absolutely PHENOMENAL. Go in blind. I had the ending spoiled, and it does detract from it. TW: child injury and death (off screen), unreality (? I think I'm using that right)

While there isn't exactly much of a twist, you could probably see parts of the ending coming. They aren't exactly coy about where they want to go with the story. I still held out, rooting for a more naturalistic explanation, but I kind of love how they did the reveal, both about what was behind the astroids and how the movie was wrapping up the story.
While I think it's spiritually closer to the McPherson Tape, you could immediately make connections to movies like Deep Impact (1998). In particular, it raises some interesting questions.
1) Would you want to know? If the Earth was on a collision course with an asteroid and there wasn't anywhere to run or anything to do, would you want to know? I wouldn't. Maybe I'm a coward, but I skipped doing my big, accurate divination ritual this year because I knew what question I was feeling compelled to ask, and I didn't want to know the answer. I have enough anxiety about death, I think I'd rather it took me by surprise.
2) Assuming it was a natural phenomenon, do you think broadcast news would still spend the time arguing over whether it was aliens? Going to commercial up until the end? I kind of do.
It's also kind of a damning indictment of the current state of American broadcast news. Every time they cut to an expert, or spent time inside a scientific agency, it broke my heart a little. No podcasters, no politicians, just scientists, doctors, and Arthur C. Clarke. Can you even imagine a modern remake? I get like, 50% of my news from comedians, so it's not like I have room to talk, I suppose, but those are comedians with research teams.
Anyway, good movie. I have two others lined up from the 1920's and one I'm still trying to find an archive of online. If you have any low/no budget analog horror or found footage movies you like, let me know.
