It’s great being an advocate for pigeons but you NEED to be an advocate for gulls as well (colloquially known as ‘seagulls’) especially herring gulls.
One life is too many yet I have read multiple articles concerning seagulls being literally beaten to death by humans for trying to snag their food. This is NOT a proportionate response to an animal who humans made come in land to survive.
“The real enemy is seagulls.” No, seagulls are morally neutral like other birds and just like pigeons, have been labelled as pests due to the actions of humans and face extreme cruelty because of this. Please treat seagulls with respect and grace.
herring gulls are on the UK red list, birds of highest conservation concern. their numbers have dropped around 70% in the last 57 years.
Lesser Blackback gull numbers have declined almost 50% in the past 20 years and are on the amber list.
Greater black backed gull numbers have dropped 66% in the past 20 years.
The habitat we have taken from them stops them being able to get proper food, which means they rely on our waste and scraps to survive. This also means they are more closely packed than they would be in the wild, so more disease can spread. Please respect our gulls.

I do not understand how European tourists keep dying badly and nonsensically in Death Valley. It’s like every year one random French or German guy will go out like a hamster in Death Valley. This is such a geographically beautiful continent and I have never once thought “I want to go to the place where the hottest temperature on earth was recorded!” (Absolutely no offense intended to the Timbisha, I’m sure it is a very geographically beautiful place but not somewhere I want to drive through in a rental car, it seems like a place that requires advanced level strategical planning to visit.) Are there pamphlets advertising Death Valley in every travel agency in Western Europe or someone? Redwoods country, Big Sur, LA, SF, these are all places you go visit on vacation to California and you chose Death Valley???
