For him, it was painful to love him, to gain his trust, and to lose it so easily without having the right to, perhaps, try to find a solution for it.
Nirei, this boy who also went through difficult times, was beaten, bullied, and forced to do the bidding of stupid delinquents. Nirei was the one who spent the most time with Suo, going to school, training, and returning together on a certain route. And Suo was that friend who had a comforting word, who comforted with a hand on his shoulder, and it was Suo who noticed that Nirei was going through something when nobody else did. Sakura and Nirei are suffering, but each is assimilating and absorbing it in different ways. After all, Sakura is experiencing what it was like to gain a friend and lose him, since she didn't know this feeling of loss. Nirei sees Suo's suffering internally, is frustrated by not being able to stop him, and feels defeated because Suo doesn't open up and they don't share the same trust.
