rose. they/he. adult | queer | neurologically fucked writer (incl. 🔞) // artist keeper of unloved traits a second attempt at a writing blog ✨ queer fantasy, flash fiction, poetry, crack, & other bullshit
I’m a queer disabled writer writing queer adult fantasy featuring weird, queer disabled characters
I’m always open to asks and tag games!
I’ve dabbled in so many different genres and styles over the years, but love symbolic, poetic writing, and am currently on a fantasy and romance kick, with all my WIPs falling into action/adventure too
just a warning: I do write detailed sex scenes, a fair amount of graphic violence, and tackle sensitive topics, including the messiness of living with severe mental illnesses and navigating sexual intimacy after sexual trauma.
(though, my usual posts have been the stupid shit I write when I’m bored and tired—my favorite)
this is a new account, but I’m far from new to tumblr and writeblr. this is a second attempt at a writing blog on here for me, with a focus on increasing opportunities for connection for writers. in these trying times, art and connection have never been more crucial, yet unfortunately also most attacked and lacking, respectively.
I used to be @starbuds-and-rosedust , you can find me on ao3 and itch.io by the same handle, and on Bsky @ starbuds-and-roses

current WIPs:
joke intros
“the big wip” (arcs 2/7)
two disgustingly-in-love middle aged men just try to fuck around and find out (literally & figuratively) together in peace but an angst-filled 20yo weapon crashing out over his ex-situationship has other plans. oh and don't forget the grief
“Pal”
you ever wonder what would happen if you actually took those traveling proselytizers up on their offer? welp, it looks like that cult somehow all of you joined late one night in a moment of weakness is indeed the murdery kind
Lark
jaded tragic lesbian vampire gets stuck on a road trip with the world's most unhinged fifteen-year-old girl and her cold dead heart is forced to care for someone for the first time in decades
long intros
“the big wip”
secondary world fantasy, romance, action/adventure, swords & (a bit of) sorcery, coming of age, Own Voice (disability rep), adult, disability & queer rep
high in explicit sexual content, discussions of loss and suicide/suicidal behavior, and descriptions of blood and injury
features a fleshed out world that seven different main POV stories take place in so far. the world has its own unique celestial bodies, night/day cycles, two suns, countless moons, creation story involving a handful of gods and goddesses and one vengeful god, and seven different main kingdoms with a shared origin history and unique cultures, people, and geographic features
Bazyli (bah-zihlee) and Cecyl (see-sihl) Tzetzes (tzeht-zees)’s story follows a pre-established, lovey-dovey married couple—the King of Glazign, King Bazyli Tzetzes, and his husband, Lord Cecyl—who have two adult sons, Aleksey and Bence. It centers around:
kingly affairs
dealing with a particularly annoying bigoted neighboring kingdom when yours is essentially a progressive electoral monarchy that seems to attract interesting, unconventional characters to rise to leadership
navigating an acquired disability (/of a loved one) under the public eye (be advised that although they get lucky, their life is pretty much a guide to how to NOT live with a seizure disorder with a very short aura period before episodes)
grief
figuring out how to pick up the pieces of a relationship while enduring grief
reclaiming sexuality
enjoying the process of fucking around and finding out in middle age
and accidental fugitive acquisition.
Eloy Maro de las Llanurjoj (ē-loy mah-r~oh dey lahs yah-nur~-yoy ~indicates rolled sound)’s is the post-teenage "coming of age" story of the beloved prince of Ferraz's personal guard and sheltered childhood friend who has never had anyone but him. Being so close to royalty ousts him from his community in the plains, and bearing the surname Maro, relation to his older sister, and the same condition brings on the declaration of being a curse, courtesy of said community. No one else has ever wanted him.
Outside of exposition, his story actively moves through:
mildly homoerotic situationship
ignoring one's feelings through rage
trying to persist in an old identity and role that one has been forced out of by circumstance
accidentally collapsing half dead on the king of an opposing kingdom's doorstep (twice)
extreme stubbornness
going through the mess of trying to forge a new life for oneself after the old one has been torn out from under your feet and ditched you in a foreign place.
“Pal”
quest fantasy, romantic subplot, action/adventure, swords & (a bit of) sorcery, adult, disability & queer rep
high in graphic depictions of violence and disturbing gore
set in a DND-esque world with so far minimal world building, features a main group adventuring party that's being hunted down by a group of cultists that all members of the original group were once tied to somehow, and is split into two main acts
meet:
Echethier (ehtch-ih-theer) — "Mind if I speak freely?" the "dad/ grandad" of the main group
Paych (paych... like "paycheck" without the "-eck" and slurred together) — "Alchemy can't fix that." the perpetually annoyed alchemist who can technically poison them all covertly if she wishes but chooses not to
Cal'eris (cahl-EHR-ihs) — "Do you want me to kill him?" is a major source of conflict as much as he is stuck in perpetual internal conflict: homophobic loser that you hate to sympathize with
Hali (hah-lee) — "I, uh, sorta forgot everything in the other room. I'll be right back." a seemingly carefree, hotheaded trickster and former thief that has just been given the most convenient ticket out from the town that hated him. also a newly discovered bisexual disaster
Yasča (yahsh-chah) — "At least the blizzards will give me a warmer welcome than you have." a cold, stoic, sometimes sharp tongued, 4'9" swordsman from an isolated mountain community and who hardly speaks common. was dragged into this bullshit by helping the wrong clueless foreigner and is now stuck with him
Maessil (may-seel) — understandably full of teenage rage due to complicated cultist lore and is only nice to her lyre. don't be fooled by the bright colors—they weren't originally pastels
Nim (nihm) — "I like to get to know a man before I kill him."
Lark
urban fantasy, modern setting, coming of age, action/adventure, teenaged protagonist, adult, queer rep
high in depictions of grief and descriptions of disturbing acts of “self-violence”
jaded tragic lesbian vampire, Laurel, gets stuck on a road trip with the world's most unhinged fifteen-year-old girl, Lola, and her cold dead heart is forced to care for someone for the first time in decades
excerpt (draft):
[…] but cave to her "whims". Though, that gravel to her voice sharpened into a bitter, serated edge—enough to dig in and bite instead of graze.
"You're a walking corpse."
She shrugged it off, like Laurel was the little puppy nipping at her ankles that had just been kicked, and twirled her hair around her finger. "So. . . no?"
Laurel spared her a glance, lips pressed into that tight line that bordered on frown just enough it was as if she was making a point of showing she couldn't be bothered to commit to the expression. "Most likely not."

sharing our work is often a risk: a deeply vulnerable undertaking, as writing can be a way of self-connecting and -expressing able to reveal more about ourselves to us than we knew before—and occasionally, more than we ever wanted to know.
what we write can change us, too, as we research new topics, continue to discover ourselves, and refine our perceptions through experimentation. thus, to share can be to present ourselves in a light we’re not usually seen under, sometimes for the very first time, soft underbelly exposed.
how much of yourself do you give away, leave on the page—intentionally or unintentionally? how has writing or otherwise engaging with steamy material affected your identity/sense of self?
bonus: recent rises in puritanical views have led to more censorship, threatening the livelihoods of those that create sexual, sensual, suggestive, taboo, and/or queer content
how have you been taking care of yourself, staying safe, and keeping yourself going amidst these conflicts?

I have this idea for a video game called Are You Out There? where two players control two different alien civilizations and the goal of the game is to invent spaceflight and then manage to find one another in a ginormous universe. You can try to leave signs for each other to find, or send out probes and radio waves, or colonize many systems so you're a bigger target, but its hard because the universe is really big.
this week’s theme: let’s get risqué. . . well, more than usual
share a suggestive/steamy/sexy snippet that especially involves risk—forbidden romance? a precarious sex position? a sexual/suggestive scenario involving fear/danger? or that’s not quite “safe” or “sane”? etc.

This is a vent ask, sorry. Been having Feelings and sometimes find it easier to process when I can abstract them into something more poetic.
boots.
i was given a pair of new leather boots at 13
they are pretty. good quality. didnt fit right
i was told they’ll wear in
break them in
wear them often
you’ll see, they’ll fit like a glove soon
i am 24
the boots are still pretty. still good quality
still don’t fit right
pinching, rubbing
too tight
leaving blisters
im told they’re enviable
i should be proud of them
they’re gorgeous god i wish i could have boots like that i used to have boots like that and they really don’t look that great anymore aren’t you LUCKY to have boots like that
boots i wish i could take off
boots that rub and ache and make walking difficult
i am lucky to have them
fortunate to have them
why do i complain of blisters? there are no blisters. you’re fine. get up, keep walking
they’re pretty boots. they’re just not mine. on any other person they’d be perfect
