Like buying clothes for her family has always been alice’s sort of love language 

And whenever she’s out shopping, she purchases things that remind her of the person, not just some thoughtless designer pieces they would only wear once 

Alice puts actual care into her choices 

and when Bella became her best friend, she wanted to extend that love out to Bella as well

But Bella had always been practical, and made smart choices when it came to her money 

So when Renee would splurge at the mall or whatever, Bella would always do her clothes shopping at thrift shops and Goodwill 

And Bella kind of forced herself not to care when things didn’t fit right or look the best because there was never a huge selection

Alice knows that Bella doesn’t think of herself as beautiful, and Alice also knows that it breaks Edward’s heart whenever Bella makes an offhanded comment about it

But Alice believes that the right clothes and the right style can build up a person’s confidence 

Alice wants to help Bella see that she doesn’t have to be a vampire to look like she belongs with Edward (even tho Alice is desperate for Bella to be a vamp), but, Bella, you’re beautiful and strong enough to be with Edward right now 

And when Alice dresses Bella up for dates with Edward, Bella doesn’t feel like guinea pig Barbie, because Alice puts Bella in clothes that she picked out specifically with Bella in mind to make her feel like her best self
