Completely useless headcanon for Billy in season two:

He was originally only put in regular restraints and had just gauze bandages on his injuries for the first few months after the carousel, but as he regained more cognitive and physical functioning, Dinah started messing with him more and more, trying to needle a reaction out of him to “prove” to everyone that he was faking.

So when he’d react and lash out at her it would just result in harsher restraints; ankle cuffs, body straps. finally culminating in the full-body straightjacket.

And after all that, then the facemask - because, when it was all he had left, he lunged up and tried to bite her.

Then after that, the hospital staff insisted he needed to keep the mask on, Hannibal Lecter-style, and we wind up with how he is in the hospital in season two…

And he doesn’t entirely remember all of these episodes, only that the woman in his room with the dark, curly hair made it all happen, and he hates her, but also wants to fuck her brains out, even though he doesn’t entirely know why.

New headcanon: Karen’s dad and grandfather were hunters and took her hunting as a kid, which she hated and never killed anything, even though she was naturally a good shot.

When she was about ten they took her hunting and told her they weren’t coming home until she ‘bagged something’ and after a few disgusting days in grandpas old family hunting cabin she gave in and shot a deer they were tracking just for her.

Since she was crying and shaking when she finally took the shot, the kill wasn’t clean so they made her go ‘finish it off’ up close with a headshot, and then to ‘celebrate’ her grandpa had this coatrack made with its hooves, ‘to remind Karen what she’s capable of.’

To them, this was all a good thing, (you know, it “””builds character””” and all that shit) but poor Karen had to stare at that thing every day until her dad made her leave Vermont.
