In a world where genies are commonplace and delight in granting wishes in the most inconvenient way possible, you are a defense attorney who must defend your client, a well-meaning genie who is charged with felonious wish-granting.
It wasn’t the first time I’d had to defend Jimmy, and it wouldn’t be the last. He’s got to be one of the most-litigated genies who’s ever lived, which is a little unfair, since he’s also actually one of the most genuinely benign. He just gets things wrong a lot.
Like, a *lot*.
So wrong.
So often.
See, all genies will, to some extent, screw with wishes. It’s their nature. With some of them, if you wish for ‘a horse’, they give you a heavily insured and very identifiable race-horse and watch the catastrophe unfold. Others will just mess with the wish a little bit, say, by giving you a foal instead of a currently rideable horse or something. But everyone knows they need to be careful with their wording, these days, so it’s not usually too bad. (Unless you violate the three rules. Wish to raise the dead, to kill someone, or to make someone fall in love with you, and they will get *very* unpleasant.)
But Jimmy… he meant well. He really did.

Things that I knew about: that the mass incarceration of people in the USA , particularly black men, has direct ties to/is an extension of slavery. Things I did not know: this specific shit about Louisiana HOLY FUCK this is evil.
OH MY GOSH????
When activist Sam Sinyangwe was awaiting a meeting with the governor’s office at the Louisiana state capitol building in Baton Rouge, he not
The 13th Amendment provides a loophole that allows for the legality of unpaid prison labor, which is sometimes called "modern-day slavery."
Grew up next to Angola. It’s much worse than you think
I wonder how many people are imprisoned for weed
I’m from Mississippi and it’s like this in my home town. Enslaved prisoners clean roadways, pick cotton, everything they’ve done since before slavery was supposedly ended. What they teach in schools is nothing but propaganda.
Okay, this is awful, but it appeals to my weird sense of humor. And it's my tumblr.

Something is missing from the debate over educationally suitable literature
Moonstone Round Cabochons
Have and Have Not (2006) Crystal Schenk
look i reblogged this because this piece FUCKS but then
then I looked in the notes and y’know.
some people seems confused.
Why a shopping cart with stained glass?
or This would be cool to shop with
or something about religion and NO
NO
THIS. Is about HOMES.
That style stained glass? Those diamonds? They speak to me, and they say “Townhouse”. and FANCY townhouse, at that. They say “City home, old home, a home that is RICH, a shelter from the storm and a safe place for a family”.
But on! a! shopping cart!
That evokes - to me - Homelessness.
The person on the street who had no other choice but to steal the best cart they could from a store’s corral just to have a way to transport the meager belongings that are all they fucking have in this world. And it’s NOT a home or a safe place or a shelter but it’s all you fucking have!
And this piece goes and puts them fucking together! AND NAMES IT.
Yeah this is fucking ART.
It's really interesting because I live in an area where a lot of of the housing stock is old middle/working-class duplexes and triple-deckers, and many of those have stained glass. So this doesn't necessarily read "rich person's house" to me so much as a combination of vernacular middle class and working class architecture with an equally mundane object (namely shopping cart). But also combining the modern with the historical, because you tend to see windows like that – which were the closest thing they had at the time to mass produced, to be clear, hence their presence in households that were not wealthy) -in older houses and apartment buildings
It's really interesting how people's context impacts the way they interpret artwork!
IVE BEEN HANGING OUT WITH MY FRIEND FOR LIKE A YEAR NOW AND IT TURNS OUT WE KNEW EACH OTHER AND WERE FRIENDS WITH EACH OTHER PRETRANSITION
we we’re talking about how we had a mutual friend and how that was so wild and then they mentioned another friend i knew and i was like “yeah i played soccer with them both in the park” and my friend was like “wait does your deadname start with a C” and it turns out she was also there and we just had no idea who each other was this entire time till now
This is fucking wild
This is half a plot for a modern Shakespearean comedy of errors.
Romcom where two people meet cute and bond over how awful their exes were and plan elaborate revenge schemes but it turns out they both transitioned and are helping to plan revenge plots against themselves

Last year, I befriended a Catholic seminarian. We've gotten to be pretty decent friends. Seeing as he was staying in town for the summer and I wasn't, I entrusted him with caring for my plant.
He did a wonderful job, but as he was returning my plant to my custody, he explained "I watered her every other day, I gave her new dirt, moved her into the sunshine, prayed the rosary-"
"What?"
He looked at me, confused. "Isn't she a plant you pray with?"
"No," I said slowly. "She's a prayer plant. That's the... colloquial name of the plant."
Upon seeing his stricken face, I realized something went wrong. Turns out, this entire time, he's been including my plant in on his prayers and leaving her near icons.
Listen, totally cool. My plant becoming Catholic is a great deal for her not dying over the summer. But now I must navigate this interfaith household. Keep me in your thoughts.
#i love prayer plants but they're fussy so I don't keep them#can we have a picture op they're so pretty
Behold, Dorothea
(Naming my plant "Gift of God," and then giving her to a seminarian with just the explanation that it's a prayer plant? Okay, that's my bad.)
I should also add- I ran into my rabbi and explained the situation. I then asked, earnestly, if there was a remedy. A mikveh of sorts, or a beit din, or something.
He turned to me, sighed, and said in a very deadpan tone-- "Plants don't have covenants, Joy,"
So Theodora's a free agent according to rabbinic opinion. I guess I'll permit her to be Roman Catholic.
It sounds far more likely that she’s simply become used to being prayed with in general. Thankfully, prayer plants are famously responsive. You could set up a video to record a timelapse to see how much she moves in the morning and evening, with exposure to recordings of different prayers from various faith traditions, to see which ones move (ha) her the most
