BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER S05E18 → INTERVENTION
One of many deficiencies of Grishaverse the show made even more glaring is their lack of aviation.
Shadow and Bone S01E01- about a skiff:
- That looks new. ~ Brand-new. Grisha call it ultralight. Made by their own Fabrikators. It's supposed to be faster.
... so how come they didn't try to take transportation to another level, and fly?
No gliders, no flying SHIPS, no aircraft until one genius otkazat'sya swoops down to save them all.
Grisha can feel how the air moves, and have a way of DIRECTLY controlling air currents! They have a half of the work done by default! As for the rest- Alkemi and Durasts should be able to deal with construction materials and some way to propel the machine, alas...
What gets me is the complete lack of imagination. Fabrikators have such cool powers, there are so many possibilities to create an interesting world. They have everything to become the most technologically advanced country in the world, but no, let's wait for a girl with sparkly hands. And even Alina's power didn't have to be this lame. It's not like light power cannot be interesting. If only she did something more thoughtful with it instead of shooting light beams like a goddamned idiot.
EXACTLY! The unexplored potential for real science fantasy makes my teeth grind. Alina alone has the potential for solid light constructs (light being a wave and a particle both), radiation manipulation across the spectrum, nuclear fusion and fission...
Materialki can literally perform alchemy?! Jesper has been shown to redirect bullets; why is this not something that is more widely spread? Even if certain Materialki are specialized, whether by self-imposed limits or preference, what they can do within those limits is insane!
Etherealki got kneecapped so hard. Literally any bender in the AtLA universe could kick their ass six ways to Sunday. They should be able to do all of that. (AtLA has given me standards, okay)
Corporalki aren't able to regrow limbs and make artificial organs by this point? Why isn't there a MASSIVE line of willing human test subjects for medical procedures? How do they get away with only being able to operate on line-of-sight?
And, of course, my biggest beef: how is it that only like two Grisha ever have actually figured out "are we not all things?" Everything is atoms. Grisha manipulate things on a molecular level, sometimes down to the atomic (maybe THAT'S why Sun Summoners are so rare? They can go to the atomic level?). How is it not easier to branch out, especially by those who are self-taught?
This is potentially life saving information everyone should know.
No you guys this post helped me find my cat. He was missing for almost a month and I’ve had him for over 12 years. After seeing this I put his favorite blanket he always slept on outside hoping he would smell mine or his scent and he was back the next fucking day asleep on it.
When my cat got out, we called and called for him, and then, later that night, I remembered similar advice to this, and so put his little scratching pad, which he adores, on the front porch. Not even half an hour later, I heard a thump, opened the door, and there was his big butt, meowing at me.
Important and vital
I don’t care that I reblogged this today I’m reblogging it again
This is an exception to not being related to writing.
I hope this helps somebody
Whenever someone in one of my buy swap sell groups reports a missing cat, I remember this post and pass the advice on. So far, ALL of the missing cats have come home.

it’s necessary to fight back against adult content bans obviously because it leads to queer bans, but also, you cannot forget that we must fight back against these bans because adults have the right to make and enjoy adult content. no credit card company has the right to censor what we look at. yes, this includes the “problematic kinks” and stuff you think is gross and bad. just as we deserve to be openly queer online, we deserve to enjoy adult content without fear of total censorship, and it’s absurd how few places there are to do that online nowadays
How to Emotionally Destroy Readers
✩ Gut-punches are about timing. You don't say “I love you” during the sunset. You say it in the middle of a burning building or right after they stab you.
✩ A single line of dialogue like “you were supposed to come back” hits harder than an entire page of poetic mourning.
✩ Don’t just break their hearts, break their sense of identity. Make them question who they are, what they stand for, and if it was ever worth it (That’s premium pain.)
✩ Let someone be forgiven… but not trusted again. That's the kind of heartbreak that lingers like smoke.
✩ Sometimes the most devastating line is the one they don’t say. Silence is a character too.
✩ Give them a moment of joy. Right before everything falls apart. Hope makes the fall hurt more.
✩ Someone saying “I forgive you” through tears? Powerful. Someone saying “I still love you but I can’t stay”? Absolutely soul-shattering.
✩ If they die, don’t describe the death. Describe the aftermath. The coat left hanging by the door. The mug still on the table. The dog waiting.
Give me villains who weren’t broken by the world—they just looked at it and said, “Yeah, I can do better.”
Give me villains who are soft for one person. Just one. And that’s their entire Achilles’ heel.
Give me villains who don’t monologue. Who don’t explain. Who just smile and pull the trigger.
Give me villains who think they’re the hero—and kind of have a point.
In that order: Havelock Vetinari (discworld), Silco (arcane), Fyodor (bsd), Light Yagami (death note)
Neurodivergent assassin who very casually uses their weapons as stim.
Turning on and off the safety of their gun. Tapping and spinning their dagger. Watching the poison in the vial move as they flip in and then back.
Nobody says anything because...well they're an assassin.
Turns on safety, presses trigger, turns off safety repeat.
People around them are in constant fear.
Chewing the end of their poison tipped dagger when they try to figure out a plan.
Wash their hands too much cause they don't like how sticky blood is.
However overtime it becomes a weird single to others.
Everyone is anxious trying to figure something out and they hear a little "click click" and it's just slightly calming to know that they have this person there and they are thinking of a plan.
Someone hands them a drink but it flows just a little too weird and they are like, "hmm that's poison" then chuck it because they have built up immunity.
No table that doesn't have something carved into it.
Never a situation where they don't have enough bullets because this person takes out the cartridge and puts it back as stim.
They take apart their guns and put them back over time being crazy fast and efficient with it.
Just give me a neurodivergent assassin/spy.
"i don't comment on ao3 because i don't wanna be annoying or weird" skill issue + you greatly underestimate the power dynamic here, writing multi paragraph comments is like feeding a bunch of deeply insane and possibly starved ducks at the park and watch them go completely mad over having received a piece of bread

I wonder if the Patrician ever realized that by pinning on the lilac that he was creating a situation where a very exclusive club not only included both Havelock Vetinari and Nobby Nobbs as members, but also one in which they were equals.
me: I write for myself, not validation
also me after posting a fic *refreshes ao3 every five minutes*
(two things can be true)
"'You know, not one Ramkin in the last thousand years has died in his bed.'
'Yes, ma'am?'
'Source of family pride, that.'
'Yes, ma'am.'
'Quite a few have died in other people's of course.'
Captain Vimes's teacup rattled in its saucer. 'Yes, ma'am,' he said."
— Guards! Guards!, Terry Pratchett
Having thoughts about Drumknott and Vetinari again, and specifically about how much The Truth seems to be a turning point in their relationship. Drumknott is around, before that book, he's already Vetinari’s personal secretary, he's clearly a trusted and respected figure in the Palace, and yet his appearances are always brief, there-and-gone, just dropping off a file before disappearing again.
But in the books after that (and particularly by the time you get to Going Postal)? There’s barely a Vetinari scene without him, and there's a major increase in the number of scenes with just the two of them. Suddenly Drumknott is whispering information - and even corrections - in Vetinari’s ear, Vetinari is monologuing to him about philosophy and asking for his opinion, they're doing a double-act to keep visitors on their toes during meetings. They're a team, not just a politician and his secretary.
And I'm thinking about how, after the events of The Truth, Vetinari must have dug for the details on everything that happened. And he must have learned, either from the Watch or Drumknott himself, that Drumknott saw a man who looked like Vetinari attack him, and still argued for Vetinari’s innocence in the incident. That Drumknott chose to distrust the evidence of his own eyes before he would even consider distrusting Vetinari.
How rare must that be, for one of the most powerful political figures on the continent? To have earned that sort of loyalty and trust from someone, that the thought of betrayal never even crossed his mind?
Vetinari doesn't trust easily - he can't, too many people want to see him thrown from power, too many people could be plotting against him. But seeing someone else give him so much trust... well, that does seem to earn an equal amount in return, doesn't it?
Do y'all ever read a fic so good that it makes you want to elevate your own craft and also befriend the writer? It's almost like, "Hi! You write so well that you've inspired me to embark on a creative training arc. Also, can I yell about the character in your dms because you get it?"

"You hear people talk about witches being burned, but I don't reckon many real witches ever did get burned unless they were tricked in some way; I think it was mostly poor old women. Witches are mostly too soggy, and it was probably a wicked waste of good timber. But it's very easy to push an old lady down to the ground and take one of the doors off the barn and put it on top of her like a sandwich and pile stones on it until she can't breathe any more. And that makes all the badness go away. Except that it doesn't. Because there are other things going on, and other old ladies. And when they run out, there are always old men. Always strangers. There's always outsiders. And then, perhaps, one day, there's always you. That's when the madness stops. When there's no one left to be mad."
-Terry Pratchett, I Shall Wear Midnight
i was a kid asking questions like "when you say to rate my pain on a scale of 1 to 10 do you mean relative to what i have experienced before or what i could theoretically experience in the future because what if i say 8 and then later i get twenty billion papercuts and i realise relative to that this pain is a 1" and they would reply "just focus on what you know, you literally had your foot ran over by a ford focus" and id say "well exactly but it could have been both feet which i know would surely be worse" and it still took years to diagnose me as autistic
"Is a 1 to 10 pain scale intuitive?" needs to be evaluated as an autism diagnosis question.
