Early alarm system.
I love hidden injuries and the discovery of said injuries with all of my heart, but--
Injuries that are just too hard or even impossible to hide. Blood rapidly soaking through clothes and staining hands when trying to cover up or put pressure on wounds. Cuts and bruises in obvious, easy to see places where clothes can't cover or keep riding up. Bones very obviously broken. Injuries so painful that it's impossible to mask it, whumpee curling in on themselves or falling to the ground out of sheer agony.
The panic of whumpee wanting, needing, to hide the injury and pretend they're okay, it's okay, they can keep going, and the immediate realisation that it can't be hidden, and everyone around them realising something is wrong.

Imagine if you will, a Pack Fair. It is like those college fairs where prospects go around and look at different colleges but instead, for packs. So, Stiles goes (maybe with Scott who has been looking into all of these packs he might consider) but just to support him so he's not as aware of pack histories.
Oh, and maybe there is a Hunters table (like how these things always have a military table) and they are like, "you can handle a gun? Join us!" And Stiles scoffs like, "never in a million years."
And all of these packs tables have banners, pamphlets, and other printable as to why their pack is the best or all of the things it can offer someone looking to join.
But then Stiles sees this lone guy at one of the event tables, reading a book. His table is empty. Not a pamphlet in sight. The other prospects skirt around him.
Oh, and Derek is required to be there or the Hale pack will be officially disbanded and he can't do that to his family but also, no one ever wants to join.
Except Stiles. Stiles is intrigued.
There's always the option too that Derek does have his Betas and maybe Erica made him a pamphlet and most of it describes how awesome she is, and their members are. And how they have movie nights and family dinners. So not the glamorous stuff the other Packs are throwing out but like, Stiles is still interested.
He talks to Derek. They do their flirty/snippy/banter thing.
Oh, and maybe at some point Scott finds him and he's got all of these pamphlets from all of these packs (including the Alpha pack? How does that work wtf?!) And he's like, "Stiles, why are you wasting your time here? There's so many better packs."
Stiles jokes that it's like colleges with a small class size. You get more attention. An individualized lesson plan. Derek smirks a bit. Stiles is so ready to pursue this one.
